A branded story

How brand is important for us?

This is a real story. This is a real incident in my life. I was doing sales person part time job when i was in 10th std. I was selling candles from my uncle's factory. I used to help in the factory too.

We had different brands for selling the candle. We used to give a brand in one area. For example, we gave  a brand called 'Kaveri' in Karnataka state. Kaveri is a river in Karnataka. We gave another brand in Kerala  called "Ammu". My duty to distribute Ammu brand in nearby my villages.

One day, our candle box cover of Ammu was over. Same time we got a big order to supply candles. That was a festival season where people light the candles in the evening.

we decided to pack candles in Kaveri brand. We packed and distributed the area where Ammu brand used.

One week went well. Next week I went to collect the money of the candles distributed last week. Most of the shop owners returned the Kaveri packs sold last week. They complained about the quality of the candles. They were telling that the light of candles were less.

As a manufacturer, I knew we used same quality product for both cases, the difference was only packing.

That day I learned the value of brand  is important than the quality of the brand.

  • You are right Suku......it is a trick used in many countries.........a distributing company is just that........the packaging is for the different areas in which whatever is ordered is shipped........but it is funny what idea's people get that do not know the process..............LOL  I guess that is where we get the saying....."It is all in your mind"!!!.....LOL

  • It's the same like placebo effect :) I have witnessed a real case of placebo effect. My father has hypertension, his blood pressure goes really high sometimes. One day he came home and said he wasn't feeling well, his blood pressure was high again. He took his medicine and an hour later everything was okay. The same thing happened over and over again. At some point he said he was running out of pills, I was about to go out, so I could buy some. I asked him what drug's name was. When he told me the name, I realized that he had taken medicine which was supposed to help his gastritis :D Still his blood pressure really went down anytime he took the pills for gastritis. Our brains play with us sometimes. People have seen the light of candles slighter, because they have believed that candles were different. :)
