This is a weld fitting forged from steel to connect pipe by welding. The Tee allows one pipe to attach at 90 degree angle to another pipe of same size and pressure rating.

Tis is the type of piping which could carry oil or petroleum byproducts and must be very well attached. The welds would be X-ray tested for defects and then typically a hydrostatic test using water at several hundred pounds of pressure would prove that the weld and pipe is safe to use. Explosions and fires which cause deaths, pollution and property loss at refineries are minimized by such testing. Such items are then sand blasted to bare steel and then painted to prevent any corrosion.
