Core English is one of the most important subjects in English. It is included writing, reading, listening, vocabulary, grammar and others that are related to our everyday life and work. And this subject requires the students practice and research a lot. When I started college, I was very excited of facing Core English and I was determined to improve my English skill. Core English is started from elementary to advance level and we need to spend two terms to finish one book. After that, when I study Core English, I realized that I can improve my English a lot such as: I can read and speak English very well. And I know a lot of vocabularies more than I used to and I can use it properly. However, there are some points are still my issue like: listening to the tap or foreigners. I sometime cannot understand what is being said very well because of the pronunciation and they speak very fast. Furthermore, I can get more insight that is related to the general knowledge and what I have to prepare for work. And now I decided to study this subject very hard and I focused on many points such as: grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening and others.


After I have been learning Core English for many terms, I realized that I can speak English very well. At school I participate a lot with this subject in order to improve my speaking. And I like to speak English with the teachers and friends. Teacher always speaks English while teaching and do not admit us talking in Khmer. In the other hand, there are a lot of speaking activities in this course. Before reading the text, teacher always gives us some question to discuss and then we have to say out what we know in order to participate in the class. And next, teachers always give us an assignment and then let us do a presentation to the class. When the presentation is approaching, I need to organize what I have to show and to be ready about the question that can be asked by the teacher and classmates. And moreover, I often talk with my friend in English. I have many friends that can speak English very well and they always correct me with the wrong pronunciation. And besides speaking, I am also good at vocabulary. Nowadays, I realized that I know many vocabularies more than I used to such as: formal and informal, phrasal verb, family/ relationship and others. I think vocabulary is very important for writing and speaking so I need to know a lot. I practice a lot with the vocabulary when I read the text and talk with the others. When I see new words, I always write it in my notebook and then try translating with my dictionary or asking teacher. In the other point, grammar is also very important. And I had studied many grammars and I can understand well. I can practice a lot and do a research more with the Core English subject. One more reason, my teacher is very good at explaining grammar. At first, he tells us about the using and forming of it and then gives the examples in order to make us understand clearly. However, there are some points are still my issue.

There are some troubles for me with Core English such as: listening, reading, and writing. There are many listening activities in this course and the big issue for me is listening. For example, sometimes I cannot understand very well to the tap or foreigners that because of they speak very fast and I cannot catch up the words are being said. And after listening is finished, we have to answer the question; but I cannot answer all the questions properly. And sometime I use my guessing skill. I like listen to the radio that is speaking in English but I sometime cannot understand what they are talking about at all. I like to watch American movies so much but at that time I did not care about what they said. In contrast, I think it is easier when I listen to teachers, friends and foreigners; I can understand nearly 90 percent of all they are talking. And next, reading is also my problem. It is extremely difficult for me to read the texts that are very difficult and then answer the question with deep understanding. I think I am not good at reading because I do not have so much time to read the books. And one more reason, I like to read only technology magazine. And the last, writing is also my big issue for me. I have been learning writing a lot but I still cannot write a paragraph or essay very well. In Core English there are also a lot of writing activities. Especially at the end of some lessons, there are some topics that we have to discuss and write for the teacher. Next, when I read the paragraph or essay of the other I can understand very well but it is very difficult when I write. Anyway, I know clearly about the process of the writing paragraph or essay but the main problem is I do not have a lot of idea to write and cannot use the words that can make my writing more attractive. When I finish my writing, some I feel very bad because it seem like a kid.

Core English requires us to practice and research a lot with grammar, reading, speaking, listening and others. In order to get these properly I need to study harder and harder and practice my English every day. Currently, I am trying to improve my English like: I try to read the text that is written in English, and practice speaking English with my friends and family. And furthermore, I would like to read the text loudly in order to practice my pronunciation and improve my voice if I have free time. I listen to the news that is spoken in English every night and I study new words every day. Totally, I think Core English is the most important subject that we have to pay attention with. It is included many point that is related to our life and especially for work. And now, I think Core English is not the most difficult for me like before. We have to manage the time for study properly. We can find the documents about this subject easily, and especially on the internet there a lot of sites that we can study and do a test for free. I really proud of Core English and I expect I will be very good at this subject when I finish it. The biggest purpose is I want to get a good job and have a chance to study abroad, so English is very important for me.
