Irregular verbs with Examples

Irregular verbs

Irregular verbs are the words that do not end with ed in case of past tense. The complexity in the conversion process from the present tense to the past tense is higher than the general words. An example that can be considered for irregular verbs are go and catch. In both cases, the past tense of these words does not end with ed. Both the words have an alternative form of their respective past tense. In the case of the irregular verb, the main concern that is to be considered is that they follow a different pattern from the regular words. As per the law, they have different spellings that are not linked with the initial word. As in the case, the catch is an irregular verb. The past tense that t has is caught. Here has been the major difference between the regular verbs and irregular verbs. As per the tenses, it can be stated that there is no change in form in the time of present tense but there is a marked change that is noticed when the present tense is translated in the past tense.

Examples of irregular verbs

Go, Get, Say, See, Think, Make, Take, Come, Know

From the above examples it can be seen that go will become went, get will become got, say will become said, see will become saw, think will become thought, make will become made, take will become took, come will become came and know will become knew. These are the past tense of the words that are stated above. As it is seen that no ed is added at the end of the irregular verbs during the conversation to the past tense.
