I was once known for my great beauty and graceful princess of Tunjung, a kingdom in South Lombok. And this is my story……My name is princess Mandalika. I was loved by my people for my generosity and delicate feeling. I loved my people very much, to me their welfare is my main concern. As I grew to a lovely lady, many princes had asked for my hands. But I didn’t show any enthusiasm on this issue. Furthermore, how could I choose among them? As I didn’t have the heart to let the others down if I accepted a prince. This dilemma left me in agony.I thought very hard to solve this dilemmatic situation. After a long term of thinking with many considerations, I had come to a decision.I invited all of my people and all princes to come to kuta beach of Lombok on the 5th day after fool moon before dawn. That day I would come and to be at their service. My decicion is final, I came to the beach on time. I stood on a big stone before the sea and said to the people : ”from now on, all of you will have me.”I dived to the wavy water and soon my body turned to “NYALE”From that moment, the people of Lombok would go to catch “NYALE” ( sea worms that is believed to have proteins and good for killing bacteria in our body) to celebrate the legend. This tradition is known as “BAU NYALE” ( catching sea worms). It has attracted many domestic and international tourists to watch and participate.
