River

Hi, everyone. I saw this picture in one of my friends' blog. As I like simple scenes very much, I decided to post this picture here, so that everyone can express your view about the picture.

I don't know what kind of pictures you like, so I just post it here. Sorry if it is too dull or too unsuitable to your style. You guys can post pictures of your favourite so that everyone can express their view on your own favourite picture.

Hope to hear a lot interesting replies from you for this picture.

  • serene isolated way form it all ! Nice picture :)

  • I copied it from my dictionary. I think your computer may not support this font style. About the colon after 'u', I think it it the sound'long u'
  • By the way, "canoe" is pronounced "kan u", it is a Native American (Indian) word.
  • I like this picture. I wonder where the people are who have the boat? The boat looks like what we would call a "canoe," but I don't know if it really is one. Maybe the people are off to the upper left, fishing, and they have a cooking fire ready nearby to prepare the fish they catch!
    • thanks for replying, Mrs. Stout. I took this picture from my Chinese friend's blog. He lives in the countryside in China, so I think it is a kind of traditional boat made of wood.

I think you know that ancient Chinese poets often pictured an isolated boat in the river to express their inner isolation (you wrote in your profile that you learn a lot about other countries, right? That is awesome). My friend is a fan of ancient poets, so I think he was inspired by those distinguished scholars when taking this picture.

By the way, I often pronounce "Canoe" [kə'nu:], so what is the correct one?

    • Your spelling of the word sound [kə'nu] is probably closer than mine, thanks! By the way, where did you find the phoenetic symbol ə ? I copied and pasted yours to put here, but didn't find it anywhere myself. Also, after the 'u you entered a colon :--does that have some phoenetic meaning?
