SAY CHEEEEEEEEESE!!!

"Cheese"
, or "say cheese" is what UK and US people usually say when someone is taking a picture, because it makes your mouth to show a 'smile-like' shape.

In the late 19th century, it was more nice to keep the mouth small, which led to photographers to use the phrase "say prunes" (so the 'duck face' is old like that!)

I've also heard another instructions like:
"Smile" / "Smile for the camera", "Look at the birdie" or "Act serious!"

But the interesting thing is to find out the common words said in different countries and cultures. I know some like:
Ouistiti – France ( = Little Monkey)
Famiglia – Italy ( = Family )
Marmolada – Poland ( = jam )

** Here, I'd like to ask you, What is common to say in your country? **

In Spain we usually say Patata ( = Potato ) because we have a great humor sense, and telling that word, everybody will show a wide open mouth that makes you look silly and funny.
Personally, I like to say 'whisky' or whatever nonsense stuff that comes up to my mind in that moment.

Anyway, what about you?
What do you say when someone is taking you a picture?

** You can also give another funny suggestions.

Thanks for reading!

  • Cheeeese....will show a smile with teeth.

    Patata...will show a cheerful smile.

I'm not quite sure what in my country actually say...some are "cheese", too. Probably, we creatively will say 'kucing...' which means cat. :D (it gives a smile like cheese..)

Well, it is actually to show the same smiles of the people in the photo. While, I or maybe some people like to have a different smile..lol...

A unique blog, as always MARY. :)

  • we say "Senyum" it's mean Smile

So it's like saying 'picture' while someone is taking the picture... I guess it helps to confirm the situation! hahaha

  • My friend says in Esperanto, it is 'foti'
I believe it is somehow as 'photo', the last vowel acts as our infamous cheeeese.

  • @Camel, why not? I'm a curious cat-woman :P
