  • Hi, Arif! Nice to meet you! You know, writing skills depend on knowing grammar and vocabulary. So, it is possible to improve them here. People usually ask me different questions concernig grammar and vocabulary and I answer to them. Besides, I correct comments if people ask me to. Honestly, I can correct any text written by you if I have got some spare time. You can take part in all discussions here. Welcome to my group!
  • Hi, Alhgag! I am sorry it took me so long to answer. Unfortunatelly, I got very bad cold and was sick for about 10 days. But I am OK now and am ready to answer to your question.

Well, it is realy not easy to explain and I am unsure I can post such a large text. However, I will start my explanations and we will see what will happen.

As to the first pair "make a call" and "call up", the explanation is not complicated:

When we use the first expression, we don't have to mention our recipient and we don't want to mention him/her rather often. So, I can just say:

Excuse me, I have to make a call. (And that's it!)

If we use the second expression, we have to say whom we are calling:

I need to call up my husband.

    He often calls me up.

    Got it?

As to the other pairs, you should be aware that the verb "get" means some transient process. It means that some object has changed ( or is changing) its state while the appropriate verb means the fact. So, let's analyze the examples:

I am getting myself ready for going out (it means that I am in the process: I have taken a shower, I am putting on makeup, I am makink my hair and so on)

I'd like you to get the vegetables ready for salad (you should wash and cook (and/or peel) them

    Please, compare:

The salad was prepared well (it is a fact)

I was not prerared for the lesson (it is a fact)

Let's analyse the next pair. I think, it is the hardest pair to explain. Honesly, it is necessary to feel it. Let's omit it now. I will think it over, OK?

The last pair is "get confused" and "confuse". It is easy! The verb "confuse" means that something/someone confuses you while "get confused" means that you are confused by something/someone (Active and Passive Voices). Here are some examples:

Your questions usually confuse me a little for I am used to explaining vocabulary in Russian. (Active voice)

However, I have never been confused by such situations (Passive voice)

I don't really know what situation can make me get confused (become confused) (Passive infinitive)

As always, you can ask me time and again :)

    make phone v call

    get ready v prepare

    get started v start

    get confused v confuse

i 'd like for you explain what the difference between them and how i know using the correct verbs in specific sentence such as  make confused is incorrect or get sure is incorrect  . is there any rules i could depend on it and always comes adjectives after these verbs otherwise

Practicing English

Everybody has their own methods to learn English. For the first time, I learn from songs. It is easier for me, cos it is a fun way. I learn vocabularies, grammar and idioms... and also pronounciation. Books gives me a lot of knowledge. The most difficult for me to learn is speaking cos we must have a partner to practice. We can't do it alone. I am a housewife with 3 children, and 2 of them are kids, really so hard to find partner to practice cos of my bussiness taking care of them. My husband…
