Sono, there are various explanations how Halloween evolved. I believe this is a Christian tradition (and pagan combined). We celebrate this every year on October 31st, before the All Saints Day and All Souls Day (November 1 & 2) wherein we remember our deads.
Basically, most people (kids and adults) dress up for this occassion in scary costumes to portray those familiar images of dead people, ghosts, and other creepy creatures brought by our wild imaginations and those we often see in movies. But not everyone wants to look spooky, so others dress up in cute outfits like super heroes, fairies, princesses and just about any other cartoon characters nowadays.
Although Halloween is commonly observed in most Christian countries; however, it is celebrated in different ways. Here in the US, in preparation for Halloween, people decorate their houses with scary stuff, or pumpkins and other autumn decors like what I did with my house. People also carve pumpkins and turn them into cute characters, put lighted candles inside then leave them outside the house. Then on the eve of Halloween, while everyone is asleep, some silly kids would steal those pumpkins and smash them or run them over with their cars. You'll just see pumpkins the next day all over the street. (^_*) Also, during Halloween, there are costume parades, costume parties, and kids go trick or treating wherein they go from house to house and knock on the door and say "trick or treat", then the owner of the house is suppose to give candies to those kids (or we call "TRUNK or treat" when people decorate the back of their cars and kids go from car to car to get candies instead of going to houses). In my case, I didn't give away candies this time for trick or treaters, instead I prepared a bag for each kid filled with an apple and mandarin orange and 4 quarters (1 dollar). I actually do not like the idea of kids getting too much candies. I don't wanna be the reason for their teeth to rot, heheh!
