Lashed to the mast of selfish yesteryears
To words unspoken, and the moment lost,
I live the instant in recurring fears
For no atonement now could find its cost

If I could only take the years back now
and hold your hand, unsay all that you heard
all would I give to kiss your distressed brow
and from your heart remove my savage word

Grace comes at last in welled up tears
swathing the rawness of this ancient grief
calming the violence of repentance fierce
yielding finally into your loving hands this unbelief

@ Afro :  Indeed! :)

@ Mishaikh : It does prevail,  but there is good to be wrought in a painful experience and if it has helped one to be aware then I suppose it has done its part.  Thank you again friend for passing by. :)

Hello setareh, I have missed my fair-minded virtual friend too! :) I had hoped to share an experience here to show the grave consequence of regret and so we may learn from each other.  Thanks for liking it. :)

Hi Lady Noor, thank you for gracing my blog with words pulsed with passion that one may avoid the grief of remorse, for this I am obliged. :)

Dear Alice, I miss you and your words. Whenever we get annoyed we should remember tomorrow might be late to say him or her that we love them. Thanks for your beautiful poem.
Dear Noor you also put it in the best way.

Thank you Adaline there is always beauty to be found even in grief and remorse. :)

Thanks dara gino, though it is true that remorse leaves a scar too profound to forget and yet somehow there can exist a silent whisper of forgiveness that can erase all remnants of grief and it is nestled in the hope of a second chance, perhaps not with the physical person itself but a dedication to it so that nothing may be in vain.
