Phrases related to our eating habits

Hello dear friends,

Since lots of members have been talking about food the last few days, I thought of sharing some phrases related to our eating habits. Hope you will find my post useful.

Sarah always eats like a bird. (To eat very little)

You are just picking at your food. (To eat food in small pieces without enjoyment)

His eyes are bigger than his stomach. (Has taken more food than one can eat)

My brother brought his friends over to our place last Saturday, and they ate us out of house and home. (To eat everything that someone has in the house)

She wolfed down the whole pizza in 2 minutes! The boys gobbled down the food. (To eat something very quickly in very large pieces)

I don't want soup. I want something that will stick to my ribs! (Food that lasts long and gives us the feeling of having eaten a lot)

Why are you eating as if there's no tomorrow? (Eating lots of food without any thought - usually humorous)

He has a cast-iron stomach and can eat anything! (A very strong stomach that can withstand bad food or anything nauseating) I wonder if any of you have a cast-iron stomach?

I am so hungry. I could eat a horse! I am hungry as a bear!  (These phrases express we are very, very hungry)

And finally here is a proverb for you. Way to a man's heart is through his stomach. (If you want a man to love you, you should feed him good food) Do you think it's true?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please share your thoughts about this post by answering the following questions.

  • Could you please tell us about your eating habits? Are you someone who likes to eat your food quickly or someone who eats slowly and enjoys the taste of every bite? Do you hate it when people make loud noises while chewing their food?
  • Please share if you know any other expressions related to this topic.

Thank you for reading and I wish all of you a very happy and useful stay here!

Look Shoba and SNR, you both are confused here. If you feed a man tasty food, he will get fat. But he won't love you. I think that proverb was written by an old man who was jealous of the young men. There are other ways to win a man's heart. Send me a private message and I will tell you how. You can ask Frank guy too. He can also help you.

Wow, dear SNR, I am awfully glad to see you again! How are you doing? Is everything okay with you?

I also believed that way to a man's heart is through his stomach and tried to win someone's heart by feeding him good food. But unfortunately my trick didn't work. LOL. Anyhow, like you said most of the men in our families get impressed when we make them tasty food.

Thank you very much for your interesting and funny reply, SNR. I hope you will continue to eat your food like a bird and stay a foodie as well. Happy weekend!

Dear Shobha,

Nice to see u after long time ^_^.

In deed, very useful blog. I will save all these phrases and idioms :P If I have to say something abt my eating habits then I would say it depends on my mood n the food also :D but i would say "I eat like a bird" ha ha ha

And I Like the last one, yeah I believe that it's true .... Way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

I must give Tasty food to a man if i want him to love me ....lol

I have seen many men around me, in my family and some of my friends they want good and tasty food, of course... If i were in their place my answer would be the same because I am Foodie though I eat like a bird  :P

Thank you so much for sharing this blog :D

Wow, very nice blog.. very nice addition to the challenge.. Really I liked all phrases.. Those phrases in particular: "wolfed down" and " ate us out ofhouse and home" they were totally new for me.. I can also add something that is related to the phrase "picking at your food" which is the vocabulary "picky" and it is used to describe someone who can not be easily satisfied regarding their food or choices..

Thanks for sharing this very wow blog :)

My dear sweet Sri Lankan friend,

I am really sorry to hear about your gastritis issue. Most of the mothers in our country are like you. They keep running around the house doing household chores and taking care of their children that they don't have enough time for eating. I really hope that you will eat right to tackle this problem.

I haven't heard about Andare before. I will ask my Sinhalese friends about him. He seems like a food lover like me. LOL. Thank you very much, dear Kal, for your valuable comment. I really appreciate it. May God bless you and your lovely family!
