Onee's Writing Challenge: How I Describe "Friendship"

Friendship is a word that people often use, and often even they use it thoughtlessly. Especially in the virtual media.
We get friendship requests from people, we hardly ever know.
The word friendship got a new meaning during the last years.

I always struggle to call it friendship when I just met someone.

Sincere friendship needs patience and time for growing.

A real friendship is precious. Often, we have a wide circle of acquaintances, but only a few people are in our close circle of friends.

So I want to tell you what friendship means to me.

True friendship means knowing each other very well, loyalty, trust, patience, listening, compassion, familiarity, empathy, and also forgiveness.

We can not choose which family we are born into, but we can choose our friends. We should do that very carefully because there is no better gift than true friendship.

Friendship is like a tree. The tree's height is not important but the depth of its roots. ( Borrowed from a quote I read.) If a storm bends the tree, its strong roots will hold it.

The best way to keep a friendship stable and alive is honesty and respect. We must not always agree with everything our friends do, but we can try to understand why they do so.
But friendship is not a one-way direction. We may expect the same from our friends. Friendship means to be there for each other, in good and bad times.

There are many quotes about Friendship.
The followings are my favorite. (It's not exactly translated from German to English, only similar.)

"A friend is the one who knows the song of your life and sings it for you when you have forgotten its lyrics or melody."

"Friendship is a door between two people. She can sometimes creak, she can pinch, but she is never locked. (Balthasar Gracian y Morales ")

Once a boy came back home very late.  He found his father at the door, angry, "Where have you been?"

"With my friends at his house" the boy replied very timidly.  His father immediately called his friends one by one to confirm.

Four  of his friends confirmed one by one that he was with them.

Three of them said "yes uncle he has just left".

Two said, "Yes uncle he is here with me, shall I give him the phone?"

One of them went to the extreme, he spoke with his father in the boy's own voice, "Yes papa, what is it, I am here with.......................

You may not find friend in life, but you can find life in the them.

Dear bet.

I also did not say virtual friends are bad. We can meet them and become friends also in the real world.

As for me, I met a woman from Italy on an English platform in the internet, in 2011. She and her husband visited Germany one year later and we used the occasion to meet each other.
Whether you believe it or not, we immediately felt familiar as if we had known each other already for a long time. That can happen, too, but it is very seldom.
We see us frequenty on Skype for a talk, and at least once a year, we visit each other. My next trip to Italy will be in May.

Hello, Darius.
Wow! Your comment could be your extra post on that topic.
I am impressed. Thanks a lot.

You write among other words: It means we are looking for the reflection of ours on other people. Actually, we are looking for a reflection of our hearts....and also you write: the best friend is a friend whose heart reflect ours as the best; like a cleanly polished mirror that can reflect everything well.

These words remind me of my friend who always says he feels as if I was his mirror. I've seen his soul, I can not tell you how, but it's true.
I accompanied him from the distance through very difficult times and always supported him whenever he needed advice or just someone who listened to him.
We never met each other in reality but over the years, he became to me like a son, brother, and friend, all of that in one single person. Such friendships are rare to find, and that makes it so precious.
I'm relieved because I know he is in good hands now. After a very hard time, he found love, married, got a son last year, and is now a loving husband and father.
I hope, someday, I can meet him and his family.

Dear O.M.

I thank you very much for your comment.

I agree with you when you write: friendship in childhood is a general rehearsal of love. I will add one more: it's the purest form of love.
