Old wives tale

What is the meaning of "old wives' tale"? According to a simple definition it means a belief, usually superstitious or erroneous, passed on by word of mouth as a piece of traditional wisdom.

In nearly every Society, they have their own "old wives' tales" which had been passed down from generations. It doesn't matter if you believed these "old wives' tales" or not, but to read or listen about them are fun.

Okay, here I want to share with you one of the most common "old wives tales" in my Society. It has to do with bad luck. It was said that in order to get rid of one's bad lucks, one needs to take a bath with water mixed with 7 different flowers. The flowers must be sweet smelling flowers.

So share with me your Society most common "old wives' tale". This is just for fun. LOL

OHMY ..... OHMY .. OHMY .... you're as always successful in making me speechless, my Grandest of Grander than Grand Grandmother.

What can I say to that long "beating around the bush" remedy? I can only THANK GOD that your remedy is only an "old wives' tale". I cannot imagine if it's proven remedy. Where am I going to find 100 handsome princes? I can't kiss any frogs that come across my path in the hope that these frogs will turn into handsome princes. Eeeeeeewwwwwww!!!!!!!!

And to make a concoction from 300-year old durian juice is just too much, even for a durian ambassador likes me!

Hmm ... Noorany ,, I don't know the reason why sitting in the middle of a door/way will bring bad luck. LOL. I'm not an old wife. Hahahahahaha. I think the reason was that when you sit in the middle of a door, people will feel uncomfortable to enter your house. It was like you're blocking them from entering your house. And over here, every guest was like bringing in good luck to the host. So in other words, if a guest can't enter your house, a good luck can't enter it too.

100 rivers???? OHMY .... hmm ... it means I have to buy 100 different brands of mineral water and make sure they are from 100 different sources. That's really too many and too costly. What else should I do???  Please tell me???

Hmmm ... because??????

Drinking from 7 different wells?  hmmm ... over here it's very hard to do that anymore because wells are scarce. So can we change it to 7 different water taps?  LOL.

Hmmm .. coming in and out from the front door is not hard to do, since I locked my back door nearly 24/7. LOL. But still, I was traumatised with that cat experience. Hmmm .. why is that?

Hahaha Asif Ali, Zindani. .. that's the best compliment ever. I believed Sima had promised to send a turquoise "Cheshm Naza" to me, so I'll be protected.

Thank you.

Hi tawfeeq .. yeah ... giving to charities is the concept of zakath. But, it's interesting about the blue thing. Maybe blue thing can deflects the "green eyes of envy".

Thank you sharing.

We'll put on a new sock on the Eve of Chinese New Year. It's usually a red sock. If you do so, you'll have good luck in the new year.

Noas and sima, I think you both need 'Cheshm Nazar' neckles because you both are now a day ' apple of a MyEC eyes'.
When peoples looks good and doing good, then they came under evil eyes beacause evil dosn't like good things, and try to destroy.
That's why I feel cheshm nazar is necessary for both of you. :DD
Am I right friends??

According to my family’s tradition ,to get rid misfortune you should pay much charities for poor people and hang down something blue like a toy on your door house to avoid envious eyes .
It is very fun .Thanks for sharing us
