I didn't remember in my childhood if I have been so obsessed about listening to stories whether from my mom or dad. however, I did listen to them a lot both from my parents and my grandmother, but the stories that I listen to them from my grandmother still haven't faded away yet from my memories, as I still remember how she had been told us these stories. For instance, the style she used, the tones of her voice when sometimes went up and other times low, the sudden appearance of her forehead’s wrinkles when there were moments of disappointment she wanted to show us how badly those situations were.

My grandmother never told us unreal stories, all she said was real, as I am writing now, but although there were horror stories” I used to describe them that way”, and I was really frightening while she was telling the stories, yet I found myself on those stories.

I always love listening to my grandmother’s stories. Honestly, she lived a totally depressive life, and her parents were separated early after her and her brother got born. One day, she and her little brother had been kidnapped by someone, while their mother was off home, but lately they discovered that the one who kidnapped them was their father, he took them to live with his new wife, and his wife, on the other hand, was the worst and wicked women, my grandmother, ever knew, now you know how kind of life of this person could be.

All the adventures she told us about were 100% real, but she always won in the end. Sometimes she would tell us about her adventures in Chad where she was looking for her only little brother, and the most dramatic situations she got herself into. Other times she would tell us about her adventures with her stepmother and how she often escapes from her traps.

Stories are the stories, whether if they are our mind products or from reality, they still have a taste of being interesting, and entertaining, although sometimes make us terrified, frightened from what could be possible to happen. But we still love listening to them; perhaps reading them also gives us another way of entertaining ourselves.

  No matter what, stories can teach us a lot, and if we could see it from the past until now, we could probably found out that the stories make 70% of our current life or maybe could form our personalities, not the experiences, or dangers on them are do that, but the wisdom that someone could find while reading or listening to them.

I can't deny the power of the wisdom on our lives, and why we need it to continue living through the hardship that may or may not happen in the stories.

Are you believe in stories? Tell us what you think?

NotAClue and O.M. thanks for sharing great insights about my blog. and I am deeply sorry for the late reply due to my overwhelming tasks. I was entirely out of this world for couples of days, which make me feel like off track in everything.

I really Appreciate your uniqueness NotAClue, and I knew from the start that you are not an easy person to convince in anything, let alone a story! definitely, someone has to think a dozen times in order to pass a knowledge or subject to you.

O.M. our grandparents always have something to fill in in this world, although there's a huge gap between the two generations they are able to engage us into their stories and fascinate us with their past life.

Hello, dear Rayan,
thanks for your answer, but let me explain why I see that differently. ;-) Firstly I wasn't talking about people who seek attention in the public or internet... but just normal people, among their friends and family. And let me also emphasize that I was speaking about stories that are being told again and again...  I didn't mean that usual sharing of life experiences and thoughts, which is more mutual, and more a giving and taking. Aside from that I stay with that what I mentioned further below.

In my view there is a difference about telling a story and giving an account. Although, there is never total objectivity. Whereas stories have usually a subjective view, or concentrate on a guiding theme, an account/report tries to give a more accurate image about everything that happened around this incident.

You love stories as you said yourself, whereas I prefer always an account. You believe in Holy Scriptures, and I prefer the scientific approach. You take wisdom as something that can be passed on, and I will always challenge the author, even with my most favorite authors... I will always have a livid discussion in my head, and I never agree fully with them. This is how I find my "wisdom". ;-)

Greetings! :-)

I know one thing Rayan Abdulrrhman stories real or fictional raise from our surrounding.  The fictional stories are also based on the happenings in our lives, the writer or the narrator just change (sometimes) the name of the characters.

Your blog is very interestingly written.  Keep writing.

@NotAclue

I never view it that way, telling stories as I mentioned above involve lots of aspects, none of those aspects give the storyteller the favor to be known or popular, apparently, they are seeking something above that, simply, something just so humble and earthy, So, it's your choice whether you want to believe it or not. experiences too, can not be delivered to people, if not organized in a form of a story style, This is us our nature as a human being we love that, and we can't escape the fact! anything you imagine happened in the past have been delivered to us as a form of stories, even religious books involve stories on them, not for the seek of grabbing the attention, however for delivering the experiences and the wisdom lie there, that's how we view stories.

Be well!

@Rosemary

you words mean a lot for me, thanks so much for reading my blog, I love those stories you shared here, and for me, it's hard to guess whether this generation is so attached to stories like us or not, because they already have stuff grabbed their attention like Computer games for example.

have a nice day!

Rayan,

Agree with Rosemary’s comment. What a nice childhood memories those are.

The best once as I remember recalling were the “Urban Legends” I loved listening to such stories.

Wonderful sharing, thank you. :)

Whoever tells stories, I mean for the sake of it... will change a whole lot of it. So no need to listen to people who like telling their stories again and again. They just need attention, approval, or want to influence you in a certain way. -  Only real life experiences can let me grow. Stories always lack of the those parts which are inconvenient for the storyteller, or contradict the intended purpose to tell the story in the first place.

Greetings

    This is a wonderful blog , I have really enjoyed reading it , especially  that part about your grandmother own story and her unique style as a narrator  . I belong to the 80s generation I still remember annoying my mother and elder brother to tell me a story

             And as I started to learn I was attached strongly to the ladybird book series for kids . Stories have taken my attention and feelings for years .

           I wonder if they the new generation still have that need to listen to stories as we were
