Arif: I see what's bothering you. You are right that "player" would not normally be the right or the formal word. It's being used here very informally, almost like slang. You also have to bear in mind that newspaper and TV headlines have limited space, so they very often choose shorter words that aren't necessarily "correct". For example, the word "COMPANIES" or "PARTICIPANTS" would not fit. And this programme "Squawk Box" is a kind of freewheeling programme where "PLAYERS" just sounds okay.
And you're right. One reason I post this kind of thing is to show learners of English that "professional native speakers" make mistakes all the time - which should indeed boost confidence :) I'm sure you see such mistakes on TV and in papaers in your own language too. It's "normal". But it doesn't mean we should ignore them.

Sir, so far English is concerned, you know better than me, but in business terms, to the best my knowledge, the word "players" haven't been read so far. I do agree with the answer :D To be honest, I have read this difference , but repeating the same answer is here superfluous. She is genius lol

He was really talking about the smaller companies involved in oil production, and possibly distribution etc. But you wouldn't know that just from these few words. On the other hand, just from the few words we can see that "effect" is wrong. But never mind CNBC. There are mistakes like this all the time on CNN and BBC :)

noaslpls is right! "Affect" and "effect" are two different verbs with different meanings.
They can also be nouns, again with different meanings.
"Players" is ok in the context. "Lake" is—I believe—the name of the guest (who is giving his views on $50 oil).
I believed the correct word is 'to affect'.
