Can you still find hand pump somewhere nowadays? I remember when I was a kid, I liked to play water with my brother as there was one like this in the back yard of my grandparents' house. It brought us lots of fun. :D

  • @Nanny   It seems that living in such small village preserve using traditional stuffs more often. These things might be not convenient compared with modern tools, however they are still working well for such a long time that proves their quality could withstand the test of time. Thank you Nanny for sharing this lovely story. Have a nice weekend! :)

  • @Mary/Nanny/Muskan   Thank you for the nice comments. :)

@Nanny  I wonder if these pumps could be still found in rural area in your country. My grandma found this very helpful as she could wash many stuffs by this and cost nothing. Only I or my bro had to "work" very hard for her. lol

@Muskan   Really? It's great we had the same experience. This for adults might be just a tool, but for kids it was a toy that could produce water for fun! :D

  • Wow! memories of childhood just woke up , we used to play with them at my nana's house every summer. The water was cool during summer and (not so much but still a bit) warm during winter and I felt it was a magical pump they have there.. then I grew up and magic turned out to be nature : ))

    Thanks for sharing Grace :)

  • So cool! I've never seen one of these in real.

    Thanks for sharing! :)

  • @Kembang   I'm glad you had the nice experience on hand pump. Water in some of areas, I believe, might be still hard to get than we can imagine. Your story would help to remind me to fix my habit when I am possible to use water more than it should be. Thanks Kembang for sharing! :)

@Roman   I see. Sometimes we also buy from other water source. :)

@Eva   It's about more than forty years. The local government made effort to preserve old stuffs in this old town not only for architecture itself, but also education and sightseeing. I agree with you that high-tech era has made many things disappeared! One of the biggest challenges for us and our next generation would be A.I. "Most of jobs would be replaced by A.I. in the future.", the news said this quite often recently.

@Onee   Yes, it's VERY fun. Don't miss to try it if you could meet one. :D  Your concern is similar to Eva. Modern devices are like one coin has two sides. Somehow we got something beneficial from those also may lose something from them invisibly or visibly. With pleasure, Onee! Love the challenge. :)

By the way, I asked my friend to help press the pump so that I could take photo of it. :)

  • Dear Grace,,

Woww! It seems to be really fun to play with it. :D I never see this kind of stuff around me now and I don't remember when I ever saw this. :D

People now design modern tools more reducing human energy. Maybe that's why, they don't do exercise much. Modern stuffs make people lazier. :p

I wonder who pumped the water when you managed to take this picture. ^^

Thanks a lot for your support, dear Grace. ^_^

  • Grace,

This is very special, unique and nostalgic as well, I wonder how much old it must be. Though it seems well preserved.

Yes, those childhood memories, playing with water and in rain, I believe those who hasn’t tried that, actually missed something.

It is little sad to know that the developments of world makes some things almost vanish, especially these kind.

Very splendid contribution to the photo challenge :)

  • Thank you for explanation, Kembang!

  • Yes, Grace!

The same thing here! But we drink the special water, brought from the clean water source.

  • @AG/Dara  With pleasure! :)

@Roman  You bet! This one is probably more than 40 years. It's still convenient to use like this way only you have to press hard before getting water. If you drink it, would you filter it through something before cooking? We usually drink tap-water, but it contains strong smell of disinfectant processed from the water company, so we would filter it before cooking.

@Kembang   Interesting story! If only two buckets of water, I guess they might be heated and then being added some cold water before taking shower. Kembang, please let us know. :D
