If you haven’t heard about the Empress, you can imagine yourself a Cinderella. It’s also a great feeling! You can experience it sitting in the king carriage! This wonderful carriage is situated in a very famous Russian city of Kazan, the capital of the republic of Tatarstan. In May we had a school trip with my students to this unique city. It’s really unique as traditions of Christianity and Islam are intricately interwined in it. Maybe later I’ll write a blog devoted to this unusual city.Carriage of Catherine II monument is a replica of the coach in which the Empress arrived in Kazan in 1767. She praised the city, naming it the first after St. Petersburg. This visit has played a huge role in its development. The Empress gave an order to develop a master plan of Kazan. Then began active construction. As a thank you for their hospitality Catherine presented the city a gift: the carriage. The original of which is now in the museum of Local Lore of Kazan. A copy of this is set in the center of Kazan on Bauman Street. This attraction is very popular with visitors and residents. Locals say that the picture taken in a carriage is a good sign.

  • I love the photo, and I love reading the story behind it. Thank you for sharing it. Yes, I hope you would write a blog about this city.

  • Hala, we like the same things! Just think how it would be nice to take the photo of both of us in the carriage! Why is it so difficult to come to visit people in different countries!? If we could do it, our life would be wonderful! I agree with you about beautiful things of the past! The carriage is magic like from a fairy-tale. I think it's important to feel yourself like a princess even for a short time. My students took the photo. When I asked them: "Do I look like a Cinderella?" they at first smiled but then I said:" It's never too late to feel yourself like a Cinderella, you shoudn't think about your age." They thought a little bit over my words and agreed. Thanks for the nice comment, Hala.

This is the whole view of the carriage and my students near it.
