August #4 Lake- Mingchih Lake

The literal meaning of 'Mingchih' in Chinese is 'bright lake', which is in Yilan, Taiwan. It, being 300 meters long and 150 meters in width, is surrounded by cypresses and cryptomeria. There is a footpath leading around the lake making it easy for tourists to enjoy the scenery. Besides, you can find plenty of fishes, mallards, butterflies, and a black swan there. It's a rich ecological area visitors can spend the whole day finding out its various aspects.

  • Nida, thank you for the question. As far as I know, when the lakes contain high concentrations of chlorophyll-containing algae that would possibly give water a green color. The green lakes can support a lot of fish and other organisms, but also be harmful for those creatures when being in the poor water quality conditions, especially in summer time.
