EC Statistics Methodology

I published a blog about EC statistics and all your nice comments really really made me so happy :)

Thanks for your kind attention my dear EC friends.

Some asked about its methodology, here is the way:

I opened EC Advanced Search and find each category by searching there. These are the results of each category:

All Members: 110,795**

Then I transferred these data to Microsoft Office Excel and analyzed.

It is also possible to calculate data of each country, but it needs time to get the information from each country.

** Note: EC members are increasing second by second

This week is Teacher's Week in Iran. I was watching TV that I heard about the smallest school in the world. I've searched about it in the Net, and if you let me, I like to share it with you here, too.

Abdul Mohammad She’rani, a young Iranian teacher in a very remote village in Iran, bloging about his very small school and his 4 students in a small Iranian fishing village of Jamalabad Kalu near the southern port city of Bushehr.

Social media did something nearly miraculous: Iranian media and even CNN reported about this village and the government helped with road construction and other facilities.

UNESCO recognised the school as the smallest in the world.

He published his memories in a book "Story of the Smallest School in the World" and now it is published for the 4th time.

His blog was the second best blog in the world in Deutsche Welle Germany, in 2008.

Love Scratches

Today was "Mother's Day" in Iran.

We were in a celebration in our university and I've heard a nice story about Mothers that If you let me, I like to share it with you here.

Once upon a time a Mother was looking at his son who was playing inside the lake. She was enjoying watching her son, but suddenly she saw an alligator which was going toward her son. She shouted and run to her son quickly. The boy turned his head toward the alligator but unfortunately it was late…

The alligator took the boy's leg and pull him down the water. The Mother came and could take the boys' arms and she tried to pull him toward herself."Help… Help… Please help…" She cried and screamed terribly while she was fighting for saving his son.

A farmer, who was close to the lake, heard the Mother's screams and went to them rapidly. He hit the alligator's head by his shovel and could save boys' life. They took the boy to the hospital.

When people heard about the story they gathered around the boy and a photographer asked him to show his feet and the injuries made by alligator. The boy rolled up his pants and showed the place of alligator's teeth and injuries due to it on his feet to them. And after that he rolled up his sleeves and showed his arms to them and said that: "These are also the love scratches of my mom's fingernails that I love them."

What is shown in the photo is an Iranian custom that you will see in most of Iranian houses in Nowruz named Haft Sin.

Haft Sin is a Persian clause which means 7 words started with S (of course in Persian) first one which is the blessing symbol is Green which we call 'Sabz' in Persian and you can see that grass is in the photo.

we also put our holy book Quran and a book of a famous old Iranian poet named ''Hafez''' there which reading its poems by old members of the family before informing the start of the new year is somehow interpretatoin of a good luck. before the start of the new year the family gather around Haft Sin and  pray for a green and a blessing year. by the time the new year is informed the family kiss each other and the oldest member gives some money to kids named Eydi.. kids love it very much:)

** Reza asgharloo said:

Nowruz is the most intelligent of Celebrating  "New Year" on the world, I do not state it because I'm Iranian and from my ego I want to state it.

Abacus

Have you ever seen an abacus?

The abacus (plural abaci or abacuses), also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool used primarily in parts of Asia for elementary calculating.

We were in shopping last week (for buying a curtain) and the seller used an abacus for calculating the price. It was really amazing that he still used Abacus instead of calculator.

He was an old man and I took a photo from him abacus.

It is his abacus picture:

Valentine's Story

 Let's read this story :

Let me introduce myself. My name is Valentine. I lived in Rome during the third century. That was long, long ago! At that time, Rome was ruled by an emperor named Claudius. I didn't like Emperor Claudius, and I wasn't the only one! A lot of people shared my feelings.

Claudius wanted to have a big army. He expected men to volunteer to join. Many men just did not want to fight in wars. They did not want to leave their wives and families. As you might have guessed, not many men signed up. This made Claudius furious. So what happened? He had a crazy idea. He thought that if men were not married, they would not mind joining the army. So Claudius decided not to allow any more marriages. Young people thought his new law was cruel. I thought it was preposterous! I certainly wasn't going to support that law!

Did I mention that I was a priest? One of my favorite activities was to marry couples. Even after Emperor Claudius passed his law, I kept on performing marriage ceremonies -- secretly, of course. It was really quite exciting. Imagine a small candlelit room with only the bride and groom and myself. We would whisper the words of the ceremony, listening all the while for the steps of soldiers.

One night, we did hear footsteps. It was scary! Thank goodness the couple I was marrying escaped in time. I was caught. (Not quite as light on my feet as I used to be, I guess.) I was thrown in jail and told that my punishment was death.

I tried to stay cheerful. And do you know what? Wonderful things happened. Many young people came to the jail to visit me. They threw flowers and notes up to my window. They wanted me to know that they, too, believed in love.

One of these young people was the daughter of the prison guard. Her father allowed her to visit me in the cell. Sometimes we would sit and talk for hours. She helped me to keep my spirits up. She agreed that I did the right thing by ignoring the Emperor and going ahead with the secret marriages. On the day I was to die, I left my friend a little note thanking her for her friendship and loyalty. I signed it, "Love from your Valentine."

I believe that note started the custom of exchanging love messages on Valentine's Day. It was written on the day I died, February 14, 269 A.D. Now, every year on this day, people remember. But most importantly, they think about love and friendship. And when they think of Emperor Claudius, they remember how he tried to stand in the way of love, and they laugh, because they know that love can't be beaten!

2+2=5!

"2+2=5!!!"

A teacher taught a boy math. The boy’s name was Arno. He was 7.

“Arno! How many apples would you have if I gave you 2 apples and the other apple and one more apple?” The teacher asked Arno.

“5!” Arno answered definitely.

The teacher felt worry. She expected a right answer for her easy question. She was disappointed.

“Maybe he didn’t pay attention well” She thought.

“Listen carefully, it’s so easy. You can answer it correctly if you listen carefully. How many apples would you have if I gave you 2 apples and the other apple and one more apple? ” She repeated her question.

Arno saw disappointment in his teacher’s face. So, He started counting by his fingers. He was searching an answer so that he could make his teacher glad. His trying wasn’t for finding the right answer. He just wanted to make his teacher happy.

“5” He answered anxiously.

Disappointment was still in teacher’s face.

Suddenly, She remembered that Arno like strawberry. She thought probably Arno didn’t like apple and it was the reason that he couldn’t concentrate.

“Arno! How many strawberries would you have if I gave you 2 strawberries and the other strawberry and one more strawberry?” She asked excitedly.

The teacher seemed happy. There wasn’t any stress there. So he counted with his fingers calmly. But the teacher was worry. She wanted a new success for Arno.

“4” Arno answered.

Now, the teacher smiled victoriously. She wanted to congratulate herself on her success.

But there was still one more thing…

“Arno!! How many apples would you have if I gave you 2 apples and the other apple and one more apple?” She asked again.

“5” Arno answered immediately.

The teacher astonished!

“How Arno?! How…?!!!” She shouted angrily.

“Because I have ONE apple in my bag.” He muttered.

Writing Challenge# Reflexive Pronouns

I remember some years ago, I wanted to test Google Translate (Beta Version):

I questioned myself which sentence I should write for the first time.

I told myself "I am Sahar" is the best!

I wrote in Google box "I am Sahar" in Persian (من سحر هستم).

Then Google translated it: " I am magic"!

Magic?!!

Oh!

Yes!!

Sahar itself means "Dawn" in Persian, but it also means "Magic" with the same writing and different pronunciation, Sehr.

"Google must laugh at itself!" I thought.

But after some seconds, I thought to myself what an excellent translation it was!

Every one is a magic himself!
