Jane Austen is an English novelist who wrote six wonderful novels. Pride & Prejudice, which what this article is about, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, Emma, & Sense and Sensibility

Pride & Prejudice is a story from real life about two young people fall in love and marry. It’s happy ending, but how did they met, fall in love, and end up marring each other?? Well, this is what the story is about. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet belong to different worlds, how did they find each other?? Mr. Darcy is a man of wealth; he’s very rich and so good-looking as well, so is Elizabeth. She is not rich though, but the smartest one among her sisters and her mother has never realized this. All what keeps the mother busy is finding a husband for her daughters before it’s too late. Not any man, but a wealthy one. Yet, her father Mr. Bennet is a wise man indeed. He cares so much about making their daughters content, fulfilled, and happy; especially Lezzy for he is able to see her mind’s beauty

Elizabeth met Darcy in a dance party which was one of the strongest means to mach- make back then in the 19th Century. Dancing in Jane Austen’s time is like Facebook today; you can imagine what kinds of wonders it can make. When she has first seen him, she has said what everyone says once they see Mr. Darcy: Stuck up. Later on, she meets a handsome gentleman, Mr. whekham who tells her bad things about Mr. Darcy, that creates hatred or most likely a prejudice against Mr. Darcy. At the end of the day, Lezzy discovers that all what she has been told by Mr. Wheckham were lies when he runs away with her 15 little sister, and makes a scandal.  However, Mr. Darcy saves the Bennet’s reputation secretly, using his wealth to pay for Mr. Wheckham to marry her naïve sister. Above all, Elizabeth knows what Mr. Darcy has done for her by coincidence.

Eventually, Mr. Darcy writes a letter to Mrs. Elizabeth, expressing how he feels about her. As a result, the prejudice Elizabeth has had turns into infatuation; they have married and lived happily ever after.

I’ve chosen this novel in particular for few reasons. First, Jane Austen’s self contained life often seems reflected in her novels. I love when a writer can see her/ his self through the lines. Probably, this is why there is a character called Jane in her novels. Besides, she has never married although she had been asked to, but she said no. I think that’s why all her novels describe all kinds of relationships that have ended up with marriage. But have never discussed marriage or what it comes with it.  Maybe, Jane Austen wants women to seek for what make them really happy because, after all, all women are filled, but are they fulfilled??? Plus, I’ve always loved the way Jane Austen let men, in her novels, express themselves. Nothing seems more irresistible than writing a very good letter

What Equality Means to Sally...

Some people say, “There is no such a word as equality, & this idea is ruining   the relationships between the two sexes, male & female.”  Other people say, “Equality is our right. In order to get social justice, we must get everything a man can get.” But you know what! Open your eyes and try to see what you think is right from a different perspective for once. What equality means? In this article, I am not looking for answers; I am looking only for asking more questions. Why a person needs equality? Why women fight for it? What’s wrong with getting equality?

To me, equality is not about sameness, it’s about differences. To be equal does not mean to turn myself into a man. I am happy & content for who I am, a young woman, it means to enjoy opportunities as men do. To get choices to choose what sort of life I want to live. “You can be whatever you want to be,” little girls in the west hear this all the time from their parents, friends, to their teachers, almost everywhere they go. They are encouraged to believe that they can be just as smart athletic, & successful as boys. But in developing countries such as Jordan, the message is just the opposite. From the day they are born, they are constantly reminded of the things they are not allowed to do for they are going through something men have never been through before, The Glass Ceiling.

Furthermore, just to be fair, discussing equality from different angle would not do any harm. Who, on earth, says, “Men are allowed to date simply because they are men, while women are not allowed to date because they are women.”?? Balls shit. I am not encouraging women to go out and start dating because if they wanted to, no one could stop them. It’s the other way around; if women are not allowed to date, men are too. Why giving the right for men to do what it’s considered  to be forbidden in Islam for both of us, male & female, & making it looks like a sin ONLY for women???? Is that fair?? Is that equality? I am a Muslim; I know that God will judge people equally. My sex will never make a difference. Yet, I believe that we are different physically & psychologically; we will never be the same. However, I know that opportunities are for us all, & we all have a choice whether you are a female or a male, but this choice will never be mine without equality. Just to bear in mind, equality has nothing to do with what you wear or with the way you look; but with the way you think & act. And remember, traditions & norms have a hand in this; they make our society looks like …….

Therefore, we need to unlearn old things not to learn new things. Just because it is the way it is, does not mean it should be.  Believe  ♥ ♥  ♥ ♥  ♥ ♥

Flica’s list of wishes

And you know what! This is not it. I want to roller skate, swim, ride a horse, play a violin, and shop on my own, go on a walk in the sunset with no one but my self. I want to dance as if the floor is all mine with everyone’s staring at me. I want to go out when I want to, and get home when I would like to. I want to put a plan for my self, and stick to it.  If I did not, what my family wants my plan to be would not be the reason. I want to sleep when I feel tired, exhausted, upset, scared, whatever the reason is, without being scared of my mother waking me up as if I committed a sin. When the act of sleeping or having a nap means I am too busy getting into an affair or I may have been involved already? So what? What if I am not? What if I want to get some rest and that’s it? Why being judged by you and assume that you’re right! I see my brother sleeps most of the time, and doing nothing. Why me?? I want to have a life of my own. I want to wear what I think it suits me and buy what I think is the one. I want to decide and let me to. I am not a bad person; I may have done some mistakes, but hay, who does not?

I have so many thins would like to do, so many ideas need to be taken seriously. I am a person with heart and feelings, and I’ve got a very beautiful mind need to be respected and considered. I am not only a young girl who must be put under control to be protected. You want to protect me from myself??! How convenient!! Your turn is over. It’s my turn now, mine

I Don't Think It Belongs To You!

You have no idea how being able to give makes me happy, daddy. Ball shit, Sarah! Don’t you try to play around. Say the truth for once in your life. But dad, I swear to God I’ve just told you the truth! What do you want me to say? The truth, Sarah, the truth. How dare you lie to me? I am not lying; it is all my money; I don’t have to lie to you. I’ve done nothing wrong, that’s not fair.

Fair! What do you know about fair? It’s all my fault that I’ve let you work and got that God damn job. But Dad … Shut up!Cannot believe that you gave 50 JDs to a taxi driver! Your whole salary is 100 JDs, who could you? Are you an idiot?

But it is my money, it’s my salary. I did what think is right. This taxi driver was talking on the phone, when he picked me up; I think it was his wife, who was talking to. He was so frustrated and scared. He has a daughter my age, which is sick. I guess, he was waiting this phone call all day long to make sure that she is ok. I was not sure what was wrong with her, but I looked to his eyes in the mirror, while I was sitting in the back, and I heard his voice. To me, this was enough to make my decision. I was so moved. When he hanged up the phone, I asked him about his daughter. This 21-year old girl has a Gynecological Cancer. I decided to give him the money. Don’t you ever think, daddy, that the possibility he could be lying to me  did not come up to my head. However, I’ve been already made my decision, and there was no way to get back. I do not feel sorry about what I did, on the contrary.

Sarah, you are crazy, how could you believe that shit? You think I’ll buy it? You still don’t believe me?

Instead of giving charity to strangers, you could have given this amount of money to you father; he deserves this money God damn it!

He needed them too, mother. This is my money, my hard work.

No, sweet heart, cut this crap. This is our money. Your father and I have given you this chance to get the job you’ve always wanted, thanks to us.  The time you should spend helping me cook and clean up the house you spend it at work. So, don’t show up at the end of the day and tell me that this is your money. It’s ours, Sarah. Are you listening to me? It’s our money, and you’re grounded. You wont be able to teach in that damn foundation again, end of discussion.

Stips to Show LOVE (^_*)

Be yourself : Don't play roles and don't try to act like the cliché lovers you've seen in movies or shows. Play your own music when it comes to showing love.

Let your love shine through your actions and behaviors : Don't rely on words to show your love especially when they're not supported by prior behaviors. Are you claiming that you love him/her? Anyone could do that. If the feeling's there, it must have turned into actions. The actions are the foundations you need to base your claims on. So the better path would be to go from actions to words. When there's a need for words to be heard, speak from your heart.

When you use words, remember what you've said and in fact claimed :  Your actions are going to prove or disprove it and he/she is waiting to see whether you keep your word or not.

Remember that some people recognize or show love in different ways : For example, some people may show their love by kissing and touching,  while another person may show love by doing things or just having quality time with the one they love. Fine-tune your music to match your beloved one's needs and expectations.

Golden Rule for Special Moments : When you've built enough credit about your feelings towards him/her, make a small unexpected comment or sentence about your previously-undisclosed feelings at a very special moment, especially with a tone showing you're not waiting for a response(e.g. without looking into her eyes). An example of this is illustrated here :  you do something for her/him, she/he is amazed and appreciates it, you seize the opportunity and tell her of your very honorable belief about her/him. This can be so emotionally penetrative. Such an opportunity only happens once in your relationship. You'll recognize that very special moment when it comes up.So Don't use this rule in ordinary situations and don't use it before you've built enough credit with your partner.

Only Because Women

Ahmed: How old are you, Mona

  Mona: I am 25.

  Ahmed: really you still 25.

   Mona: I am 25 and I will stay 25.

This what we are used to hear everywhere, but what is happening now?

Men start to imitate women, how?

As devastating as the question of - How old are you -  sounds for women it is also devastating for men. Nowadays most men try to play with their ages as women usually do. As we notice most old men use a picture which shows them in their twenties or thirties while they are in their fifties. Nasser Hade is 18-year old; he said that he is surprising that when he was 13 –year- old and any one asked him about his age he replied immediately, “I am 14” but what is happening now is different when any one asked  him about his age he immediately replied “I am 17.” What do you think?

It is a human’s nature: when a person is old he tries to show that he is younger and when a person is young he tries to show that he is older. The biggest reason for that is “WOMEN”. now you ask yourself how come?? What all men always try to do is being attractive for women. How men can attract women???? By being younger. Is that true!!!What do you think?

    INTERESTING SITUATION

Lena Ahmed is 29-year old. Before 5 years she engaged for a man who was abroad. He sent his picture for her through the internet in or order to see him-as traditional way of marriage. After she saw his picture, she guessed that he was in his thirties,  so she accepted the idea and she was willing to continue. What happened after that, When he arrived to complete marriage customs, she was surprising that he looked as if he is in his fifties. He sent a picture which he took before 15 years ago. What made him behaved in this way????

To attract woman, you become a liar or a stupid in another word .What about “being older is being wiser.” Doctor Fatima Alraqaad said that this phenomena is being popular between men to attract other sex .But a wise man tells his age without any kinds of coyness.

Gender Differences: Nature or Torture?

Are men and women really different? They are different anatomically, of course, but are they different in any other ways? Do their hormonal and sex differences influence their behaviors and attitudes? Do these differences affect their lives and determine their opportunities in life? If you really highly need to know the answers, then this article is, for sure, for you.

Although females and males are different in their genetic and sexes, they are hormonally-driven behavior, but this does not mean that one sex is superior or inferior to another. Each   gender has different strengths and weaknesses. However, Patriarchal society is what made this kind of discrimination between the sexes clear; the high level of testosterone in males drives them towards dominance in the world. Hence, to say that women and men are the “same” is to deny reality. It is  the presence of this influential Y chromosome, that sets the machinery of sex development in motion, and results is all the genetic differences that there are between a man and a woman. In fact, sex differentiation takes place immediately as the female and male begins to develop within the womb. Therefore, females and males are not only different in the hormones that drive them, but they are, indeed, different mentally, physically, and socially.

Primarily, being different mentally means that the brain of women and men are actually weird differently; the human brain, like the human body, is sexed; differences in the sex-specific human brain condition a wide range of behaviors that typically associate with femaleness or maleness.

To clarify more, the human brain is divided into two hemispheres. The left hemisphere controls language analysis, expression, and body movements, while the right hemisphere is responsible for spatial relationship, facial expressions, emotional stimuli and vocal intonations. Consequently, women and men process information differently because of differences in a portion of the brain called the selenium, which is much larger in women than in men, and has more brain-wave activity. Studies have shown that problem solving tasks in female brain are handled by both hemispheres, while the male brain only uses one hemisphere. Besides, differences in the ways women and men communicate is also a function of sex-specific areas of the brain. Women seem to have an enhanced awareness of emotions and hidden meanings, while male infants are more interested in objects than in people, female’s infants respond more readily to the human voice than male’s do. So, the differences between the male and female brain is not evidence of superiority or inferiority, but of specialization. Furthermore, most profound difference between girls and boys is not in any brain structure, but rather in the sequence of development of the various brain regions.

Another difference should be taken into consideration, which is not only are men and women fundamentally different in the way their brains are weird, they are also different physically in the way Gad created them as well as endurance and physical strength. The differences are rooted within both the genes and the hormones of females and males, so women only have half of the upper body strength of men. Sex differences also appear by the age of three in the physical ability of females and males to throw a ball for instance. For sure, when it comes to physical differences between men and women, no one -and I mean no one- can deny it in any way possible.

The last and most important distinction between the two sexes, females and males, females and males, is being different socially. Which often leads to unfair discrimination usually follows the gender stereotyping held by a society. Nevertheless, the problem of gender discrimination does not stop at transgender individuals or women in a way any person could imagine; it’s much more than you think. “When you grow up, you can be whatever you want to be.” Little girls in the west hear this all the time, from their teachers to “sesame street” characters. Almost everywhere they go, they are encouraged to believe that girls can be just as smart, athletic, and successful as boys. Even the pictures of spunky women on magazine covers tell them that when you are a girl, anything is possible. But for little girls in developing countries, the message is just the opposite. From the day they are born, they are constantly reminded of the things they are not allowed to do. Because women often experience what so called The Glass Ceiling, and that are no societies in which women enjoy the same opportunities as men. This term is used to describe a perceived barrier to advancement in employment based on discrimination, especially sex discrimination.

For example, in extreme cases, parents make the horrific choice to end their baby girl’s life. One woman named Lakshmi from India fed her baby sap from an oleander bush mixed with castor oil until the girl bled from the nose and died.” A daughter is always liabilities. How can I bring up a second?” said Lakshmi to explain why she chose to end her baby’s life. “Instead of her suffering the way I do, I thought it was better to get rid of her.” However, when a boy is born in most developing countries, friends and relatives exclaim congratulations. A son means insurance; he will inherit his father’s property and get a job to help supporting the family. When a girl is born, the reaction is very different. Some women weep when they find out their baby is a girl because, to them, a daughter is just another expense. Her place is at home, not in the world of men. A girl cannot help but feel inferior when everything around her tells her that she is worth less than a boy. Her identity is forged as soon as her family and society limit her opportunities and declare her to be second-rate. These “servants of household"

came to accept that life will never be any different.

Another example, women cannot travel freely and alone within developing countries. This phenomena is not limited to developing countries, this custom prevails in many Muslim countries. There is a religious basis for it: the prophet Mohamed said that no woman should travel for one night without her husband or Mahram, for example her father, son or uncle. Some Muslim scholars believe that the prophet’s instruction was based on the unsafe travel conditions of the time. The argue is that as travel is no longer risky, that injunction does not apply. However, some religious scholars do not accept this interpretation. Indeed, this is not a matter of government decree; it is a matter of deep personal belief.

How about discussing something people do not talk about much often, though still happening? Something called FGM, Female Genital Mutilation.

This picture below describes an Egyptian girl undergoing Female Genital Mutilation. The child is made to sit on a low stool. Several women take hold of her and open her legs widely. After separation her outer and inner lips the operator, usually a woman experienced in this procedure, sets down facing the child. Sometimes, with her kitchen knife the operator first pierces and slices open the hood of the clitoris. Then, she begins to cut it out. While another woman wipes off the blood with a rage, the little girl, held down by the women helpers, screams in extreme pain; but no one pays the slightest attention. All this torture for what!!

That is not all what I have. There are still so many women who suffer every single day out there. For instance, Saudi   Arabia is the only country in the world that prevents women from driving, studying Law and Engineering, directly selling or buying property. Attending court, even when accused of murder, and showing their faces in public. Like sitting behind the desk in work is a person all in black with a veil covering the entire face. This one, however, is total. When anybody asks a question, the person behind the desk answers in a voice that sounds like a robot-like voice twisted to become unrecognizable. A guide explains that the person behind the disk is, in fact, a woman  and that she changes he voice in accordance with an Islamic rule that insists that a woman’s real voice should not be heard by any man who is not considered as a Mahram. Nevertheless, this is not true; this harsh discrimination have nothing to do with Islam as a religion, but with norms, traditions, and life-styles.

Finally, the right to equality –to a certain extent– and to be free from all forms of discrimination is a must. That is why all women and girl children have the right to appropriate nutrition and care throughout their life-span and to be free from prejudicial, customary and other practices that are based on the idea of inferiority or stereotypes roles for women and men as well

Jordanian Women Calling for Respect

In Jordanian Culture we have so many bad traditions. One of them is calling women by what they are,  not by who they are. For example:

Tariq: what is your woman’s job?

Daniel: My woman works for the government.

Daniel: my wife is a good woman; she cooks, cleans up the house, takes care of the children and never sleeps before I do.

Tariq: what is your wife’s name?

Daniel: what?  What did u say?!! How dare you. Wait for me; I will kill you!!!!!!

Where is the knowledge…? Where the women’s rights gone? We are human beings, we have names so, let’s be called by them. furthermore,  we as Jordanian women calling for more than respect; for dignity and Humanism.

Another example, some families descriminate based on gender when it comes to drive or ride a care.

The mother: Let’s go out for shopping.

The son, Keith: it sounds great.

The doughter, Liza: wait for me.

when every body is getting in the car, Keith is yalling at Liza; telling her to get out  to set  back  to take the position beside the driver, since he is the man!!!!

Liza: trying to explain, but I am five years older than him. That is not fair.

The mother: Get in the back , end of discussion. don’t you hear your brother; he’s the man not you.

I decided not to comment since my readers’ comments are more important to me. if you were the mother, what would you do?!!
