Super Excited

One of my favorite comedian is Ismo, if I may say so. He is from Finland and moves to America and deal with language barrier, so I just feel that he is on the same page with me. I watch his video frequently and pick this one for you. This is a moment when he speaks about "Excitement" in a context the world of work in America. Enjoy and have a fantabulous weekend!

I've been living in America for almost 3 years. And recently, I try to learn how to be more excited. Because people are way too excited here and it's like in Finland we do not get excited that much. Do you know what the place that where people get so excited? Email! Have you read your email lately? Where people seem to always get excited about something? I recently stayed at a hotel and the hotel asked for my email, so they can contact me to give some bonuses or something. So I gave my email and the following day I got an email from the hotel. It said, "We are super excited that you have joined our membership program and we can not wait for you to enjoy your benefits." And I replied back: " Well, I am really sorry to hear that you can not wait, but, you will have to practice waiting. Because I am unable to enjoy my benefits right now."

Also, recently I booked an appointment with a dentist. And the dentist's office sent me an email: "We are beyond excited that you are coming to see the dentist." I think that sounds dangerous. I prefer the dentist who is calm, I don't know how beyond excitement is. But it sounds unhealthy.

Well, like ten years ago. It was to be okay to write an email using "Good". But now, if you write using "Good", then it sounds wrong. Like it has to be at least "Great". So, "Great" is a minimum standard. To be maximum, you should write "Awesome" or "Exciting" or "Hyped". When someone texts me this way, I'm pumped and inflated somehow.

My concern is what is an email going to look like 10 years from now, in the future? In the future, every single work email has to start like: " I can not contain myself, I can barely breathe.  I am experiencing muscle strain from the avalanche of emotion. I actually passed out for a couple of seconds from the excitement of meeting you tomorrow at 1:30."

12 Angry Men, 1957

A courtroom drama movie, the best I’ve ever watched. It was about debate and argument of 12 jurors to take a verdict over 18th years old boy defendant. He was accused of the killing of his father and death sentence was mandatory in this case. The strength of the movie was on smart dialogues, sharp diagnosis, meticulous attention to detail, awesome acting. The movie itself vividly showing us that great explanation deflects perspective. Cleverly distinguish an objective thought from the subjective one. Juror 8 consistently brought up objective criteria that were based on reasons and facts, continuously asked questions to prompt other Jurors to come to derivations of the fact from logic.

For those who are eager to learn English, add this movie to your list. Besides rich of impressive vocabulary and sentence style, you’ll get knowledge on how to convince people nicely. What is seen on the surface, don’t swallow unfiltered. Because things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden, Phaedrus says.

Facebook oh Facebook

Facebook oh Facebook.

“We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can’t then we don’t deserve to serve you,” Zuckerberg wrote.

This what I read when I was sipping my tea few days ago afternoon. Facebook has been undergoing the hardest time after 50 million data of FB user is stolen by Cambridge Analytica. It starts when Cambridge Analytica whistleblower, Wylie, discloses that they spend $1M harvesting millions of FB profiles. Wylie himself is a former employee of CA. Reading how Zuckerberg gives reaction and apology make me think that he is genuinely gentlemen. Appreciate it and I strongly believe he’s been working hard to make better regulation on FB.

Today, I’ve just heard some big names together delete their FB business account! Elon Musk in his Twitter gives feedback to Brian Acton, Whatsapp founder, deleting his FB account. When he was being asked about SpaceX and Tesla, he firmly mentioned that he didn’t realize there was one. Elon took this case seriously for safety reason and he deleted FB account of SpaceX and Tesla, you wouldn’t find it anymore in FB now! Followed by Mozilla as well.

My FB account was deactivated few years ago, because I didn’t use it too much and lame to me, personally. But powerful for whose business account for advertising, branding and networking. Whatever, I don’t support action of removing FB forever. Regulate FB, don’t remove it. Zuckerberg, I am rooting for you! Be brave and I trust in YOU. Work harder!

Now, I am going to convey my opinion as investor in stock market. Shares of Facebook nearly fell 7% over the course of last week and went up 0.7% after Zuckerberg made statement of apology. Bearish for FB, time to gradually buy while keep an eyes to the situation.

Have a fantabulous weekend! Keep on the roll.

True Happiness

I did a 180 since the day I read article below. This is one of the single insight that powerfully changed my life forever. I share this to you and I hope it brings significant impact to your life as well. Enjoy reading!

Written by Adam Khoo (Singapore 's youngest millionaire at 26 yrs.)

Some of you may already know that I travel around the region pretty frequently, having to visit and conduct seminars at my offices in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Suzhou (China). I am in the airport almost every other week so I get to bump into many people who have attended my seminars or have read my books.

Recently, someone came up to me on a plane to KL and looked rather shocked. He asked, 'How come a millionaire like you is traveling economy?' My reply was, 'That's why I am a millionaire. ' He still looked pretty confused.

This again confirms that greatest lie ever told about wealth (which I wrote about in my latest book 'Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires'). Many people have been brainwashed to think that millionaires have to wear Gucci, Hugo Boss, Rolex, and sit on first class in air travel. This is why so many people never become rich because the moment they earn more money, they think that it is only natural that they spend more, putting them back to square one.

The truth is that most self-made millionaires are frugal and only spend on what is necessary and of value. That is why they are able to accumulate and multiply their wealth so much faster.

Over the last 7 years, I have saved about 80% of my income while today I save only about 60% (because I have my wife, mother in law, 2 maids, 2 kids, etc. to support). Still, it is way above most people who save 10% of their income (if they are lucky).

I refuse to buy a first class ticket or to buy a $300 shirt because I think that it is a complete waste of money. However, I happily pay $1,300 to send my 2-year old daughter to Julia Gabriel Speech and Drama without thinking twice.

When I joined the YEO (Young Entrepreneur's Orgn) a few years back (YEO is an exclusive club open to those who are under 40 and make over $1m a year in their own business), I discovered that those who were self-made thought like me. Many of them with net worth well over $5 m, travelled economy class and some even drove Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans, not Audis, Mercs, BMWs..

I noticed that it was only those who never had to work hard to build their own wealth (there were also a few ministers' and tycoons' sons in the club) who spent like there was no tomorrow. Somehow, *when you did not have to build everything from scratch, you do not really value money. This is precisely the reason why a family's wealth (no matter how much) rarely lasts past the third generation*

Thank GOD my rich dad foresaw this terrible possibility and refused to give me a cent to start my business.

Then some people ask me, 'What is the point in making so much money if you don't enjoy it?' The thing is that I don't really find happiness in buying branded clothes, jewellery or sitting first class. Even if buying something makes me happy it is only for a while, it does not last.

*Material happiness never lasts, it just gives you a quick fix*. After a while you feel lousy again and have to buy the next thing which you think will make you happy. I always think that if you need material things to make you happy, then you live a pretty sad and unfulfilled life..

Instead, *what makes me happy is*
when I see my children laughing and playing and learning so fast.
What makes me happy is when I see my companies and trainers reaching more and more people every year in so many more countries.

What makes me really happy is when I read all the emails about how my books and seminars have touched and inspired someone's life.

What makes me really happy is reading all your wonderful posts about how this blog is inspiring you. *This happiness makes me feel really good for a long time, much much more than what a Rolex would do for me.*

I think the point I want to put across is that *happiness must come from doing your life's work (be it teaching, building homes, designing, trading, winning tournaments etc.)* and the money that comes is only a by-product.

I’ve thought friendship must be last forever, hence I’m too late to learn it’s okay to cut people off.

For years, since I was high school student and sophomore and then a worker. I’ve tried to keep every relationship I had with all my heart. Then I ended up with numerous acquaintances and just 1 or 2 friends but not really. For years I’ve spent my little time after doing my duty to ensure my relationships are safe until I realize it’s out of my hands. I now could see this clearly: I am not supposed to be tied to someone or a group of people in certain society, no need feeling guilty if it is required to cut someone off when the truth relationship is over. Profoundly aware not everyone has to like me and I equally have rights in choosing people whom I want to be friend with. It meant I stop saying “yes” if I got invitation against my culture or rule or my principles, it meant I stop accepting divergent mindset that diverts me from my intrinsic life values. It meant I start to deliver my “NO” respectfully showing it doesn’t mean I look down friendship, but I am building up smaller circle of true friends which really matters and priceless. Let’s generate more true and honest relationship in your life. It’s not about number but quality. It’s not about a cup of coffee meet up but go deep in minded people's conversation, insightful. Where you learn new things, open up your eyes to new perspective and horizon, support each other and care, be transparent and authentic, they telling you the truth even it’s hard to hear. You can’t find these qualities in a ton of friends. The ultimate goal of relationship is not a number - unless you are a public figure:) - but quality of the relation.

Note: Question raised by my friend, I just share my answer here.

Such a tough question! My friends and I, we have a group discussion and stock market is a trending topic recently.

One of topic is: Trading or Investing? Well, first of all, let’s we distinguish Trading from Investing. Bear it in mind, the term “Trading” means someone who is actively moving money around in a brokerage account or some other type of investment account. In stock market, trader obviously active in selling and buying of stock. Profits are generated through buying at a lower price and selling at a higher price within a relatively short period of time. On the other hand, “Investing” means buying and holding a portfolio of stock in long-term strategy. When you are an investor, we can say what you are looking for is growing your money. Investor is more concerned about market fundamental before make a decision buy, hold or sell.

So, which one better? I don’t know. BUT, after go through some sources and look up information, I make up my mind to say I prefer investing. Trading seems stressful and high risk. And I sort of dumb, so it will take a longer time to learn and catch up. In brief, if you are interested in annuity then stock market investing looks quite tantalize.

This week I am going to share my two cents about side hustle and how to turn it into main business.
Well, I have gone through some ideas about being an entrepreneur in the course of past few years. So, when I saw question above, ideas below are crossed my mind :

First. Do not be over-impressed by your first idea. A Few months ago I took up Wagashi Art and started investment in Food Arts. Wagashi Art is originally Japanese Mochi. I spent money and effort aiming to boost branding of my product. The idea itself looked perfect: I have my own brand, it is unique, I have my channel and people will like Wagashi. I would do this as my side hustle and got out my job as soon as I could. Perfect plan. But I didn’t even be able to manage my first big order! Because I had no one to help me in production, and I had no money to employ someone. I could do small order but wasn’t a big one. And I was like it took me forever just to make one Wagashi. So, don’t just come up with clever notion but make it sure you can do that.

Second. Fully understand yourself, In which field are you good at, and don’t rush quit your job. A friend of mine doesn’t like her work but she loves embroidery arts. Go to office is sort of a headache but she makes up her mind and keeps working while doing her side hustle: doing needlework. She opens official store online and people start seeking of her handmade product. She handles small order in her spare time and realizes this what people already come to her for and willing to pay.
Finally, she gives up her job after her side hustle become stronger.

Third. The best investment you should do is invest in yourself. Back to my role model, embroidery girl. Before she quits her work, she takes necessary courses to support her plan. Such as professional embroidery arts, marketing strategy, financial management, distribution channel. And it does the trick. She possesses all knowledge she should know to go further: export.

In brief, it is a long way to go to turn your side hustle into your core business. Keep focus, excel in certain area, and be sensitive to your talent. Hope all of these ideas bridge you to your success.

What makes you more lively?

Someone threw this question when my friends and I met up and it got my mouth sealed for few minutes. Sipping tea slowly while taking a deep breath, my mind flew over to the dark time I ever had. If you eager enough getting more lively and colorful life, I am going to share my two cents. Are you up for this? Let’s get started :

  1. After reading my post, put down your smartphone, your tablet, your laptop.
  2. Take up exercise. Jogging, Yoga, ride a bike, or another exercise that fits you well and starts eating healthy food.
  3. Sleep and wake up in a timely manner. Don’t be owl at night.
  4. Get involved in face to face conversation and interaction. Be more sociable, but not on social media. Get off social media.
  5. Write down your dreams on a piece of paper. Your wishes and your primary goal in life.
  6. Stick the paper out at your mirror or wall or anywhere places you can easily see.
  7. Ask yourself every morning, what will you do today that bring you closer to your dreams?
  8. Ask yourself every evening, what I have done today? Have I done all the things I promised myself?
  9. Read more, opens up your eyes to seek knowledge and skills.
  10. Be grateful and thankful for everything you have had.

Believe me, you will have more colorful life. And someday, you will have yourself to thank for.

Ready? Go!

Kissinger : Virtual Kissing

One of the biggest driving factor that makes long distance relationship seems hard and miserable is couple can’t be able to get touch physically. This idea makes a computer expert named Emma Yan Zhang, Ph.D. student of London University, invented a tool to accommodate the needs.

The device is called “Kissinger” supports both iOs and Android system and it has the look likes smartphone casing. The main function makes you able to kiss your partner virtually.

Being introduced through “Love and Sex with Robots” conference, Kissinger is still prototype and being developed. So, how it works? Who want to send a kiss should give a kiss itself on the surface which is made of silicon. Sensitive sensor has been embedded on it and able to transfer the realistic sensation to receiver. It is completely just like real kissing, the inventor claimed.

Even though this sophisticated tools have artificial intelligent little bit, Emma admits she doesn’t support the idea that Kissinger is a part of human and robot’s relationship.

Romantic ties between human and robot itself are trending topic recently. But “Kissinger” has been claimed purely a tool to help couples who have long distance relationship. There is nothing to do with robot.
