GAMEAHOLIC

STARRING:
ALVIN: A student, a gameaholic
PUTRI: Alvin’s mom, strict but too spoils her son
FEBRISSA: Alvin’s friend
FARRAS: A doctor

Alvin is walking reluctantly coming home from school. Without changing his clothes, he enjoys sitting on the sofa and playing a game with his phone. Alvin, take a bath and have your meal! I’ve prepared your favorite menu on the table,” says his mom.
I’ll do it later, Mom!

It’s already 6.00 p.m., but he doesn’t even move from his contentment. His mother gets angry and nags at him, “ALVIN, LEAVE YOUR PHONE AT ONCE AND HAVE A BATH!! Can’t you do something better than this?? Hufh!” He reluctantly does what his mother said.

At 6.59 p.m, he is in his room enjoying online game on his laptop. His mother asks, “Don’t you have any homework to do from your teacher?”. He answered with a deceived smile, “Don’t worry, Mom! I will do it tomorrow morning!

Next day, at 10.00 p.m, his mom tells him, “Alvin, it’s time to sleep. Turn off your laptop and go to sleep, dear. You have to go to school tomorrow morning”. He turns off his laptop, then checks his phone that has been ringing. He reads all the messages…

On his bed, he continues playing game with his phone until 01.00 p.m. He falls asleep without turning off the phone. Next morning, he gets up late, hurriedly takes a bath, goes to school and only drinks a glass of milk for breakfast. Even in the class, he sometimes steals time to play a game with his smartphone.

There is a basketball match at the school yard in the afternoon. He is sitting on the spectator’s seat but he doesn’t watch the match. Although many friends around, he isn't interested in chatting with them. Hey, Alvin! What are you doing?? Why are you just playing game? We’re watching our school match now,” said Febrissa, who is enthusiastically watch the match as she really support his idol player. Look, looooook!!!! He did it! Yaaayyyyyyyyy!!!” she cheers.
Oh, good job, then..! I’m doing my BIG project. Please don't disturb me, okay! :D ” answers Alvin, showing a little support but his concern is still seriously IN the game. Febrissa just shakes her heads and Alvin keeps playing game with his smartphone until the match is over. He comes for nothing.

On the way home, he plays a game while walking. Suddenly, someone grabs his phone and vanishes instantly. He is shocked with mouth opens. He doesn’t know what to do. After a while, Putri approaches him and asks, “What happens, Alvin?”. My phone…..!!,” replied Alvian. Putri asked, “What??! What do you mean?”. He replied, “It was suddenly grabbed by someone when I was playing a game.
Oh, sorry to hear that! Don’t be sad, Alvin. I hope this also become a lesson for you.
Yeah, I know I am to blame for this, too.

After he gets home, he tells this matter to his mom.

HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN?? WHEN WILL YOU STOP BEING CARELESS? THIS IS THE SECOND TIME. OKAY, YOU WILL NOT GET A NEW PHONE FOR TWO MONTHS
Mom, pleaseeeee…..!!!!
NOO, BIG NO!!
I will be more careful.
NO, I CAN’T BELIEVE IN YOU NOW. Here, you can use this old phone just for communication.”

On the weekend, he spends his full day with online game on his laptop as usual.
Saturday morning, after a long night spending time with his laptop, he wakes up without seeing sunrise. He takes a bath and has a breakfast. He turns on his laptop again and plays an online game again as usual. He does this until night. He doesn’t care about what his mother said.

Day by day, he overdoes this. Everyday after school, also full day on the weekends.

Three weeks later, on the weekend, in the middle of the night

He is sitting, still with his laptop, less food and drink. He really neglects himself today. His eyes start getting blurred, he suddenly falls asleep with the laptop as the pillow.

In the morning, Febrissa comes as today they will finish a group assignment.
Assalaamu’alaikum, Ma’am. Is Alvin at home?
Wa’alaikumsalam. Oh, yes. Please come in. I will wake him up.”
Alviiiin, your friend is here…… Wake up dear…, ” his mom calls him while walking.
His mother enters his room and wakes him up but fails.
Alvin, my son, Alvin,, wake up!
He doesn’t wake up anyway. Febrissa also comes in and asks, “What happens, Ma’am?
“I don’t know. He doesn’t wake up,” she replies.
Let’s take him to the hospital, Ma’am,” advises Febrissa.
Then, he is taken to the hospital.

Mom’s Alvin asks the doctor, “How’s the condition of my son, Doc?
The doctor said, “Ma’am. before I tell you his condition, let me ask you some questions. Was he always with the phone or computer most of time
Yes, doc. Why?
What did he do?
He really likes playing online game.
I see. Did he oftentimes skip the meal or was he less drink recently?
Yeah, I admit that. He often skipped the meal but I didn’t notice if he drank enough water
Madam, there is a possibility that your son has cardiovascular problems for sitting in the same position for so long. This sedentary position has made people dead in many cases. Fortunately, he can still be saved from thrombosis, a disease where gamers commonly died from.
So, how is his condition now, Doc?” asked his mom worriedly.
There are clots in his leg veins. So, he has to get medication to dissolve the clots.”
Oh, doc. Please save my son’s life.
God who saves his life. This is maybe a lesson for you, too, Ma’am. Please take care of your son well. Prevent him from playing with gadgets in excessive way. Limit his time for that and do the other useful activities for his health. But now I should say it is better to avoid gadgets for a month for his quick recovery. Meanwhile, let’s pray for him and I will do my best.
Thank you so much, doc.”

Several hours later, Alvin has woken up. Febrissa, Alvin’s mom and the doctor are in a hospital room now.
Hey, Alvin. It’s a relief that you has got conscious now,” said Febrissa.
Thank God that you’re saved, my son. I hope now you’ll get a lesson from this.
Mom, Febrissa, What happen with me?
Alvin, let me check you for a while. Do you feel any better?
Yes, Doc. Thanks. What happen with me?
Don’t worry, Alvin. You just need to have a bed rest now. You have a little problems with your legs. Wanna play online game with me? [wink face]” teased the Doctor.
I hope you’ll get a quick recovery
Alvin just smiles without feeling regrets on his face.
Alvin, I hope you’ll get well soon. We still have many activities in our school instead of playing games. Please don’t be sad and keep your spirit up.
Thanks, Febrissa.
Alvin only smiles happily.

The Story was inspired by the real death of gamers.

Chuang, from Taiwan, in 2012, had died after having been playing Diablo 3, for almost two days without eating. The cause of his death was reported as cardiac arrest.

Rustam, a Russian, in 2015, had died after playing an online computer game for 22 days in a row. It is believed that he died from thrombosis from not moving around, as on a crampled long haul fight.

Let’s cherish our life. Let’s learn how we can ignore something that might destroy our life.

Be smart and stay healthy! :)

Hi dear friends, ^^

Actually, I wrote this for helping one of my students make a 5minutes-short movie for the assignment from school. :D There are many scenes and dialogues cut and changed by them for some reasons. I didn't get involved in making the video at all, I just gave some suggestions as the essence in acting. There are two big mistakes about the scenes, but they had no more time to take more scenes. They are eleventh graders. Please enjoy watching this video! ^^

Sorry for torturing you with a long blog. :D Thanks a lot for your time. ^^

A 50cm-wave Killed 10 People

Onee, Comedic Reporter

Sun Oct 22, 2017

GONESIA - 10 people has been reported died two days ago by a 50cm-wave on Croco Beach. Twenty people had been taken to the hospital before they finally died in the hospital room. The victims have not been identified yet, but six of them were ascertained as foreigners.

"The wave is actually not a dangerous one. It is presumed that those people had never seen such a wave in their whole life," the police explained.

Lots of people were on Croco Beach. But, many of them were saved from the accident. They ran as fast as possible to avoid the wave that chased after them.

"I saw it with my bare eyes that many of the victims were shocked to see the wave. I shouted telling them to run, but they did nothing nor did even move. They only stared at the 50-cm wave, seemed like hypnotized people. They fainted before being swept by the wave," said a witness who was saved from the accident.

Writing Challenge: A News Report

Hi bloggers and everyone who likes writing. :)

I’m sure all of you know what passive voice is. Passive voice can change the focus of interest by placing the object at the beginning of the sentence. Subjects are often omitted in the sentence as they are usually unimportant, unknown, or obvious.

Passive voice is commonly used in news report. Hence, for practicing the passive, I challenge you to write a news report. :)

Here is your task:

1.  Choose a topic of your interest, then make a title of your news report.
Here are suggestions (topic and title) I can make for you. You are FREE to use your own topic and title.

  1. Bank/shop robbery: “A Bank was Robbed, Two Bankers Died
  2. Mysterious death: “A Body Found in the River
  3. Natural disaster: “A 3m-wave killed A Woman
  4. Reconstruction of the building: “Villagers Urged the Government to Build a New Bridge
  5. Mafia boss arrest: “Mafia Boss Arrested at the Swimming Pool
  6. Shameful defeat: “Ronildo Shed Tears after Two Stolen Goals
  7. Careless death: “A Man Died After Playing Online Game for Two Days Non-stop
  8. Members of MyEC: "....................................."

I don't know why I only wrote bad news. :D I believe in your creativity. ^^

2.  Write your news report on blog section with the title "Writing Challenge: A News Report". Use passive voice in some of your sentences and please write them in bold.

3.  You can be either serious or humorous in your writing. But, avoid writing the real name of famous people/places/brands or include the source if you rewrite an actual news.

4.  The news report must be 10-20 lines in some paragraphs.

Tips:

Your news report should be the answers of 5W+1H questions.

Just write a news report, reread and choose which sentences to change into passive..

Well, to dear learners, you may make mistakes in your writings and expect some corrections. Just give correction tag on your blog IF you wish to be corrected. I’ll try to correct them BUT only in my capabilities. Phrasal Verb, idioms, and words are my weakness :D, so let’s request some other advanced or fluent teachers or Native English (Expector, Teacher Dan and Tanya, Paula, Rysperski, and some others, or even Josef Sir? ) for help. :) :d 8)

I hope I get corrections as well :D or at least they participate, too. ^_^

Passive Voice examples are available here just for you to remember.

I’m looking forward to your participation. Hope it will not make you dizzy. ^^

Have a lovely November!

A Love Letter

Let me tell you a story I got from a friend. It just happened a few months ago. I use fake names as I also don't know the real name. :p

Let's say all kids are cute. Livia was in grade 4. She was really a fan of a little boy in grade 3, Patrick. No!! She wasn't only a fan. Ssst!!! She fell in love with Patrick. LOL... As she couldn't hide her feeling, she decided to make a letter. OMG!! In this era, a letter? A dangerous evidence! :D :D It was a 'love letter' that she wanted to send to him. Unfortunately, some friends caught her in red handed. She stepped back and changed her mind not to give the letter to Patrick. She tore the letter into two.

A part of it was in a trash can, and the other part was successfully grabbed by Ben. Being an annoying boy, he eagerly wanted to do some fun....

Ben took the other part of the letter out of the trash, combined it with cellphone tape, and made hundreds of copies of it. He spread the copies to almost everyone at the school, including one of the teachers. In the class was in CHAOS because of that. Livia couldn't hide her face in front of everyone as she became an object of ridicule

Ben went home feeling satisfied with a victorious laughter.

Here is a part of the content of the letter....

"Oh, Patrick....When I see you....I want to be near to you. I want to touch your hand and walk with you. I want to touch your cheek and hair . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . "

I don't have any idea about the whole message. My friend just remember that part. :D

Patrick knew that and angrily said, "You made me feel embarrassed. This is so shameful!! I don't like you at all"

Oh My God!! :D ;( I don't know if I should laugh or give a sympathy. But they are just kids. We should give them courage and teach them a better attitude. ^^

I was in a dense forest on MyEC Island, somewhere in the world. There were so many people and I didn’t know them so well. However, it is they who accompanied me there in happiness and laughter for 3 years. I was so kind and beautiful (LOL *kidding) that many people liked me. But since that day, everything has changed.

One morning, my body was transformed into something scary. Some sharp small swords grew in my both hands. I may not realize that I hurt people around me. My ears and nose were getting bigger. My ears became more sensitive to hear and my nose could smell anything fishy. Many spikes stuck on my feet and it can kill people with one kick. My eyes couldn’t wink, just opened all the time widely, piercing here and there to see everything on the land. My brains told me to kill everyone who wanted to destroy the land. They didn’t let my heart say anything to discuss. I became a scary big monster. LOL.

One by one, some dear friends vanished from the land without bidding farewell. I tried to find them but failed. A few people were still on the land but they seemed to fear me.

At midnight, I was in the tent and heard people outside singing. Then, I came out. But, what did I see? No voice, no people! I looked for them here and there but no result. I shout out, “Wooooooiiiii, where are you, everybody??? Please comeeeee!!!”. Only a voice of an owl answered, “Wuuuuk,, wuuukk,,wuukk….”.

My heart was beating so fast and I started realizing that I was obviously all alone in the forest. I started crying and asking myself why they left me. ;((( My sadness killed all my fear so it didn't give me heebie jeebie at all to find only skeletons near me. I sat under the big tree while weeping, covering my face with my two palms.

After a while, someone touched my shoulder and said, “Don’t worry Onee, we are here with you….”. A group of human skeletons were sitting near me and cheering me up. :D :D

MyEC and Smartphone

[Sorry, focus failed, chocolate keyboard :D] I've tried to visit MyEC using UC browser and Chrome on the phone but failed to write blogs or comments just like from PC/notebook. I found the same menu only in Dolphin browser. I can upload photo as well as adding photo comment by mobile phone. Not to mention, type editing.

Just,,, This has a small keyboard. You should be more patient. Can you believe that this blog is made through phone? That's correct. :)) See the picture in the comment. I still use my phone. :))

So, still have a problem in uploading photo on blogs or comments?? Check your browser, set to desktop view, find editing menu and you can enjoy commenting and blogging here through your smartphone. I hope it helps.

Conclusion: You can use Dolphin or Firefox browser to find menu edit. If it doesn't work well, the problem is probably from your signal strength. If it doesn't work as well, probably the phone. Doesn't work still? I put my hands up. :D

Thank you so much for reading. Have a wonderful week!  :)

Miracle of Tears

"What do you mean, Doc? I AM A MAN and A HEAD OF FAMILY. It's not suitable for me to cry. It's not suitable for me to shed tears. What would my children say if they knew I am crying? What would my wife say if she knew I am crying?" the man argued.

The psychologist didn't answer, but smiled instead. The man was waiting for her to speak more, but after some minutes, she kept silent. In that room, he then realized that she kept waiting for him to cry.

-two weeks before-

In a recovery team of post-disaster of an earthquake was a psychologist. What she would do there was obvious, there were so many distressed and/or depressed people because of losing family or properties, especially homes.

A man who always came for a counseling, repined that he couldn't sleep at all after the earthquake, neither on the day nor at night. And, he did that for almost two weeks after the earthquake. You can imagine how miserable he was that he couldn't sleep for two weeks.

Every time he came, he was always accompanied by his children and his beloved wife. On the third day of counselling, the psychologist asked the children and wife to go outside and wait in the lobby. Then, she said to the man, "Now please cry, mister. So your heart and mind would feel relieved," said the psychologist.

---

Some more minutes passed, but only silence was there. They were waiting each other. The psychologist was waiting for the man to cry, while the man was thinking whether it was suitable to cry.

No more than an hour, the man suddenly started sobbing. It was restrained and sounded softly in the beginning, but due to the quietness of the psychologist, his weeping was getting louder. His tears were so much falling over his chin. His weeping then made a roaring noise and was loud, a sign that he was releasing his deepest sadness. Whatsoever.

After crying for a bit long, the psychologist still didn't say a word. She only put forth a box of tissue to the man so that he could wipe his tears. After the weeping was really abated, the man was ordered to go home.

Three days later, the man came back, accompanied by his wife and children. His face had been different to three days before. His face looked so radiant and he directly greeted the psychologist, "I'm so thankful to you, Doc. Now I can sleep soundly just like before the earthquake happened".

A true story, after an earthquake in Yogyakarta, Indonesia 2006. Translated and fully modified by Onee. :)

~~~~~*****~~~~~
This blog was inspired by Rosemary who posted a discussion 'When Men Cry". From the BOOK I've read, it is said that crying can release the excess hormone causes stress contained in tears. If someone gets stressed OR has a heavy burden in life AND couldn't restrain the pain inside, it is BETTER to CRY.
Now, what would you say? You may conclude yourself and decide... :)
Thank you so much for reading and being so thoughtful. Happy Friday! ^_^
A Prize Contest
"Dear my people, today, in this rainy season, I summoned you here to announce a PRIZE CONTEST. Any of you who have wings to fly can participate in. The challenge is you should GO TO THE MOON and find your spouse there. If you're successful, I will let you free and START A NEW LIFE", says the King to his people.
Afterwards, millions of them take part in this challenge. They are surprised as they found many moons are there. Some moons are also moving ahead so fast that oftentimes kill participants. Some participants also found that there are the other living things that threaten their lives.
Look!! There are some King's people who meet their spouse. What a romantic scene as they meet at the moon. After finding their spouse, they release their wings and come back to earth, (each couple) WALK TOGETHER to find new houses, new life, their honeymoon. How sweet..! ^^ :D
Some participants are still trying to find their spouse as night isn't over yet. Those who failed will die at dawn as they cannot live alone.
Days passes... A female one of those couples is pregnant and the body is getting bigger. The male one is always loyal to guard the female one. Two weeks passes and now they have more than thirty thousands of children. They become a King and a Queen in their new Kingdom. Yeah, they get the prize, a new life. :)
Who can guess what this is all about?? :D I would like to know if you ever heard about this. I think that was a tasty crispy chips I ever tasted in my childhood. :p :D :D
Thank you so much for spending time to read this blog. (Answer is already in the comment :D)
Have a lovely weekend! ^_^
In The Classroom: The Universe
Topic: The Universe
Grammar Section: Indirect Question
TEACHER: OK, Class. Today, we will talk about the Universe. Can anyone tell me what you know about the Sun?
GAMA: It’s the nearest star to the Earth and also the center of our Solar System.
TEACHER: Good, Gama! That’s right. Now does anyone know how long it takes the Earth to revolve around the Sun?
FIKKRY: It takes three hundred sixty five and a quarter days.
TEACHER: Wow! Perfect, Fikkry! That’s why we have A LEAP YEAR every four years, and the leap day goes to . . . . ?
FIYA: February 29th.
TEACHER: Smart girl! Were any of you born on that day?
CICI: Me, Teacher. My father usually celebrates my birthday once per four years.
STUDENTS: Woaaahhhh…!!
TEACHER: It must be so special to you, Cici.
CICI: Sure. Thanks, Teacher.
~~~~~

TEACHER: Okay. Next question! Students, do you have any idea how the Earth can go around the Sun without being released from its orbit?

AGUNG: It is because the existence of the Sun’s gravity.

TEACHER: Correct! Can you explain more, Agung?

JANI: Let me do it, Teacher.

TEACHER: OK. Go ahead.

JANI: Every object in this universe moves. The lighter objects orbit the heavier one. The sun is 1000 times heavier than the largest planet, Jupiter. That’s why every planet, including the Earth, can go around the Sun consistently on its orbit.

TEACHER: Excellent, Jani! Now I’d like to know if any of you dream to be an astronaut or astronomer.

QISTH: Me, Teacher! I dream to be an astronaut and fly in outer space.

DANANG: Be careful you may not get back!!

STUDENTS: Aahaa..ha…ha…..! [ten seconds of laughter]

TEACHER: Awesome! You ought to make your dream come true, Qisth. Don’t give up!

QISTH: Thanks, Teacher.

TEACHER: Well, students. At this point, any questions?

HIDA: I wonder why the Earth is the only habitable planet.

TEACHER: Good question, Hida! I’ll explain that. The Earth is at the right distance from the Sun. It makes the right temperature for life. It is protected from harmful solar radiation by its magnetic field. It is kept warm by an insulating atmosphere, and it has the right chemical ingredients for life, including water and carbon. No other planets have all these features. It makes the Earth the only planet we can live on.

HANI: I heard that the scientists found some planets outside our solar system that look similar to our Earth. Do you think there is any life on those planets? Would it be possible for us to live there?

TEACHER: Thanks for the question, Hani. Yes, time to time scientists searched and found those planets. Just remember! There are billions and BILLIONS of stars in our Galaxy alone, and each star is supposed to have at least one planet. Thousand planets were found and some of them look similar to our beloved planet. The distance to the star (as the center of solar system), the size, and the elements of the planets are almost similar to our habitable planet. Yet, until today, they haven't found any evidence of life there. IF one day we EVEN find a habitable planet, we will get old or even die before reaching it. IF ONLY there were a vehicle moving as quickly as the light does, 300.000 km/second . . . Probably we can take a walk in our Galaxy.

~~~~~
AINUR: How long will it take us to reach the boundary of our solar system?
TEACHER: Good question, Ainur! Let me first ask you a question. Have you ever heard about Voyager 1?
STUDENTS: . . . . . . [shaking the head]
TEACHER: No body? OK. I will explain.
It is the spacecraft launched on September 5th, 1977. With the speed of about 17 km/second, it is the only spacecraft that reaches the farthest distance from the Earth, the boundaries of our solar system. Scientist said it needs at least 36 YEARS to reach the boundary of our solar system. Until today, this spacecraft has still been in communication with the Earth and is keeping on moving away from the Sun. Now can you imagine how long it will take you to reach a planet outside our Solar System? :D
ALDI: Let’s just go by Doraemon’s DOOR, Teacher.
STUDENTS: Haha…..ha……!
TEACHER: Good idea, Aldi! :)))
~~~~~

TEACHER: Well, dear students, you’re all amazing today. You must have read your book last night.

VIRA: Teacher......you have explained it so many times……. [LOL…….] *kidding

I WAS WAITING FOR A FRIEND AT THE TERRACE OF MY HOUSE, AND A STRANGER CAME...

STRANGER : Excuse me!, May I have your little time, please?

ME : Sure. What's that about?

STRANGER : Do you know Tunjungan Plaza mall?

ME : Yes, I do. Why?

STRANGER: We hold a fair during this week there. Have you ever been there?

ME : Yeah. But, it's been a while since I last went there.

STRANGER : Do you have any plan to go there this week?

ME : Mm....I think, NO.

STRANGER : Okay. Let me tell you that we have a perfume product imported from . . . . . You will get 90 mL (10 mL @bottles) for nine hundred thousand rupiahs. Here you are.

ME : Oh, I see .....

(THE QUERY IN MY MIND: Is she crazy or something? How expensive for a bottle of perfume to me! And if she had a fair there, why did she come here and bring the product....?) I WAS FULL OF DISTRUST. :D

STRANGER : If you buy this now, we will give you a bottle for free. What perfume do you usually use?

ME : Me? I use usual good perfume, but I don't really apply that.

STRANGER : Really? Aren't you smelly??

ME : Ha...ha...ha..... Of course NOOOO.......

WHAT A QUESTION! (Aaaaaggghhh) :D :D

STRANGER : How can? from clothes perfume?

ME : Let me tell you, sis. The fragrance odor may come from other than body perfume. You know, I use a very fragrant body wash. My clothes also have another fragrance. Furthermore, I usually don't sweat very much. I have no problem with the smell of my body at all. :p (LOL......)

STRANGER : Oh, I see ....

ME : So, thanks for the offerings. I don't need it now.

STRANGER : Thanks for your time, then.

ME : You're welcome. I have to go now. Good Luck! ^_^

We never know whether a stranger is good or not. We should always be wary! And this is just one of my real experiences. ^^ Thank you so much for reading. ^_^

Poem Challenge: My Conscience

My Conscience

It’s hard to talk with you
You have a severe homilophobia

That day, the accident happened
Stressed, froze, and got drowned
Your notation was not aesthetic at all
That natatorium had made you feel bad afterall

Something in you, I never knew
What’s wrong? What’s going on?

I remember our tryst
at the secret rendezvous
I titivated myself just to see you
But you never came

With the smell of petrichor
I went home lackadaisically while the TV on
Who cares about Anastasia Nikolaevna
She’s not a cryptozoologist for sure
I sipped my hot tea
as the extremophiles were gone
I felt hypnagogic
and couldn’t remember anything

Something in you, I finally knew
Someone scholastically said you’re lunatic
The fact you’re just kathisopobian

I'm meeting you now, I want to see you
You promised me I would be your bride, but
Why am I sitting here as your paranymph in your wedding?

This is ME
My feeling...
My conscience...

Blog Challenge: Memory of MyEC 2016

The year of 2016 was started without Tara Benwell's presence in this wonderful site, MyEC. I was wondering how this site would run without her writing challenges or her encouragement for new members. Although her activities were not that much, she came once to thrice a week, but this beautiful admin always left good atmosphere here. The bloggers seemed quite thrilled to write various topics of blogs.

If you see the list of monthly archives on blog section, the number of blog from January to December are inclined to decreasing. It's pitiful to see the number of blogs less than 200 every month. This number is quite far compared to the years before. It was more than 200 or 300 blogs every month. What's the matter? Where are our bloggers? Time change, people change. But, I hope the enthusiasm doesn't change. Nevertheless, I saw less advertisement blogs in this year. Thumbs up for the admin, Sir Josef and the team. :)

Please set your seat belt and be patient, you will read my long blog. ^^

In JANUARY 2016, we were excited about the first challenge from Lady Anne. She shone this MyEC again with her critical and encouraging comments. Unfortunately, she left MyEC again without any trace. :D But at the end of the year, she said she was really busy with her work. Oh, life in this virtual world is really a choice. ^^ Stranger in the Night also made interesting and fun challenge. Does anyone know where he is now? At home? Sleeping? :D I guess he wants to breathe the atmosphere in outer MyEC for 'a moment' ^^. Expector Smith, our active blog mod, also made a challenge in that month. His grammar challenges always gain learner's knowledge like me. Later, he made at least one grammar challenge for each month in this year. Seeker was also very active in January as he made another story challenge for bloggers. Four of them were incredible! We still have many challengers from members in this year. This was just a good start!

During my stay here, I never thought about greeting newbie. But, MARY, the awesome girl, who cared about MyEC, shared her idea about greeting new members. Then, the Welcoming Committee has been alive again started from FEBRUARY 2016. Some members like Teacher Danny, Mishaikh, Adaline, Seeker, Sadar, Nimzaf, Dara Gino (now he is the one who is willing continuously to greet newbie), our new active member Risty Aven, and also the new admin of Welcoming Committee, Expector Smith greeted new members of MyEC with their own way. Oops! I forgot, me, too ^^, and I’m sorry if I forget some ^^.

For members who don’t know much about this, let me explain a little. Every member of MyEC may greet all new members. You can greet them with greeting cards or written text. Better you give them guidance on how to utilize this site well. Just be sure that you greet them in good manner, unless you want to be reported. :p. However, it is safer to greet newbie if you join Welcoming Committee group. So, new members will not misjudge you as a teaser. :D

Started from MARCH 2016, Teacher Danny, an English Native Speaker made bunch of blogs about idioms and proverbs. I was not really involved in this kind of blog. Personally, my brain is too hard to learn some idioms at one time. :D But then, in APRIL 2016, I found another interesting post here. Test and test! :D I love grammar test. :D The first blog of teacher Tanya, a fluent English teacher, teacher Danny’s wife, which caught my eyes was "Find and Correct a Mistake". Woww, she made some other kinds of blogs more and more to teach us grammar in this club during the year of 2016. What a generous teacher! I meet you again. ^^ However, it is so tiring to take the tests again and again. :D I, myself couldn’t attentively remember my mistake quickly. I’m so sorry, my great teachers Tanya & Danny, we just need to have a rest for a moment sometimes. Please don’t stop teaching us. We will never forget your kindness, great teachers. ^^

Well, it was a long story that the group GUESS MY WORD is created by me, MAY 2016. This game was actually started by Coral in her discussion. It was continued by Estanis in a new discussion, then, me, Ann, Saba, and Coral again with the same title. We didn’t think this was interesting anymore. So, Mohammad suggested us, players make a group. I was surprised that many friends really supported that, more than 200 members were invited in the group by players, while I myself only invited pioneers, about 10. :D Thank you so very much. ^^ I remember that Mishaikh, one of the great bloggers in MyEC, didn’t like to be a host before. But in this group, most players admitted that he was the best player as well as the best host. :D Learning vocabulary by this way is very interesting to me, so is to some members. Any of you who want to join this group and PLAY, you are so much welcomed. We’ll play again ASAP, friends, don’t worry! ^^

JUNE reminded us about June Blogathon by Tara Benwell in 2015. There was a great enthusiasm for many bloggers to write more and more as we should reach the number of 600 blogs. :D In JUNE 2016, Seeker made some inspiration (writing challenge) to write more, Expector still made his grammar challenge, Teacher Tanya & Danny also still made some tests as well as challenges. However, many bloggers and members in this group were not active, so was I. I was in my hometown, Ramadhan time and Ied ul-Fitr. ^^

In JULY 2016, Teacher Danny made a new game in a new group. It is JEOPARDY GAME. Discussing questions about various kinds of things in many fields can really widen our knowledge. Just one thing, this game will drain a little of your brain and time. :D Anytime, anyone, please join and PLAY with us. ^^

Guys, I know it will be boring and tiring to read my long blog. LOL… I’ll try another way.. ^^.

AG made photo challenge in APRIL 2016. It was a lively moment because the challenge was combined with game. :D. He also made another cheerful writing challenge in the end of NOVEMBER 2016. Wordless Wednesday was his mainstay blog. ^^ Our dearest kindness sweetest Evangelina made her first challenge in MAY 2016. She always encouraged almost all members with her thoughtful comments on every post. How unusually kind she is! I wonder where she got the strength. Lol… :p

You must have known this famous member in MyEC, Luci. She challenged bloggers to write, actually from FEBRUARY. But, she woke MyEC again up with bunch of challenges from OCTOBER to NOVEMBER 2016. I heard she was sick when she was very active in MyEC. I hope she will be so active again without any sickness :D ^^. In those lively moments, our active and creative photo mod, Grace, also enlivened MyEC more with her photo challenges. This will always be my concern though I don’t always join every photo challenge.

Hey, wait, I haven’t finished yet. :D *fiuhh..

Robbie, our video mod, who is ready to compete with Estanis with his baking hobby :D, also made writing challenges in NOVEMBER and DECEMBER. His first challenge about dishes made mouth of members watering. :D Expector Smith also made a sequel blog about Tips on English Usage until the end of the year. The last, he challenged bloggers to write about Memory of MyEC and you’re reading my participation now. ^^

I, myself would like to thank all the challengers and teachers so that this site is saved from getting sinked. :D Thank you so much! and ops! I forgot that I also made my first challenge in DECEMBER 2016. ^^ :D

My friends, let me tell you about the other sections, please…^^ The discussion is the hottest place in this site. LOL… I mean, I watched the discussions sometimes. They were very interesting to read. However, I wasn't really involved so often since it needed much time (at least for me) and would drain my brain. :D I loved to see Ma'am Nadira's presence lately in the discussions.

The posted videos in this site didn’t have as many response as blog posts did. However, they have loyal viewers. There were useful, interesting, fun videos posted by some members. The videos from Teacher Vicki are always being waited by me. Nevertheless, I might have missed a few of her amazing videos that are very useful for learners. I may watch again, later. ^^

If you were not that active in the year of 2016, please see the main page of MyEC now. You will see there are some changes. You will also find some most active members, top blogs, photos, videos, and discussions. Sir Josef and admin team had tried to improve MyEC keep interesting. I think, I like the main page now. Thank you so much for your awesome idea, Sir. ^^

I have so much to say more, but I know you are getting bored and tired of reading now. :D I’m tired of writing, too. :D :D

In brief, there were many great bloggers, many great photographers, great teachers, cool and smart debaters, commenters, gamers, loyal likers, and viewers, also dearest friends which will be impossible to mention all. :D Various kinds of posts as well as sequel blog posts which are interesting and useful to read. It’s not a wrong thing to read the old posts. Old is Gold, a friend said. :) Not to forget, I think the moderators of MyEC were more active in the year of 2016. I could see them all, but Sir T-Mal. I know, it is probably because I very rarely signed in MyEC Chat Room. ^^

For all the members of MyEC who were involved in the activities in the year of 2016, you are all awesome folks. Never think that if I don't mention your name here, then I forget you, TOTALLY WRONG. YOU ARE IN MY MEMORY in this BIG family MyEC. A sad story that some mods or members were not around us anymore, let’s pray the best for them. People come and go, but our memory should remain. And keep your spirit up!

This is also as the review of my second year in MyEC. I know it is a bit late, as I wish I could post at the end of December 2016. I'm tired of proofreading this, too. So tell me some errors, please. I hope you find it useful. Write and write more,, you could write your own experiences or thoughts, never be afraid to join any challenges, share your hobbies or activities, learn grammar by writing more......in this wonderful learning site, MyEC. Keep your finger cross! ^_^

Thank you so very much for reading my loooong blog… :D I’ll be very glad to hear your views. ^_^

Good morning, Robbie and friends,

I'm so sorry for my belated response in this challenge. Since no body posted Indonesian dishes, I will do. :D I hope you won't miss these dishes whenever you visit Indonesia. ^^ [Tourist guide :D ]

1. Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice)

Nasi goreng is the mainstay cuisine of Indonesia. It is so tasty or even spicy. :) Most people (including foreign tourists) like it and commonly every one can make it so that it becomes the cheapest and easiest food to make.

There are various recipes to make this dish. The main ingredient is rice, not a soft. You just need at leastonion, garlic, and chili. Besides, what makes Indonesian fried rice different-tasty is the condiment, i.e. terasi (shrimp sauce/ condiment made from pounded and fermented shrimp or small fish) and/or kemiri (candlenut). Some people may add some other ingredients. All are mashed OR thinly sliced. Saute them for a while in a frying pan and pour one or two plates of rice into it. Keep stirring with frying spatula. Of course it needs a little of salt and sugar (as flavor/MSG). Mostly here you'll find its color is a little dark or red. It is from soy sauce and/or tomato sauce, poured after pouring the rice. I like the spicy one with soy sauce. :)

Well, in Indonesia you will find we really love all the nutrients are together in one dish. :D Some people like to add some veggies such as carrot, sprout, bean, string bean, etc.. It is not common this dish without egg/ chicken meat/ prawn/ other protein sources on the plate. :D Sometimes, people fry both veggie or protein source (chicken or prawn, small sliced) together with rice. And.......Done! Enjoy your fried rice! ^_^

2. Bakso (meatball with soup)

You're probably familiar with this term, 'meatball'. Meatball in Indonesia contains not only meat, but also tapioca (starch extracted from cassava root). This made it rubbery and tender. Together with garlic, white pepper, ice water, salt, and egg, they are ground, shaped ball round and boiled. This is usually served with the specific soup (made of onion, garlic, salt, water, and pepper, tastier mixed with beef rib :)).

When we want to eat, we mostly add noddles in the bowl before pouring the soup. Again,, we don't want to leave veggie in our menu. Sometimes people add mustard or sprout. The last thing before you eat this is adding 'sambal' (made of 100% mashed chili) :D. This made the dish delicious-spicy. :D You can leave it if you don't like. ^^ You can also add soy sauce and/or tomato sauce if you wish.

Despite the complicated making, this is also the most favorite dish for most Indonesian people as well as foreign tourists. You will find many bakso seller in all districts of Indonesia. Now enjoy your lunch with 'bakso'! ^_^

3. Gado-gado (Javanese Salad)

The last, fiuhh. :D The simple healthy food. Why Javanese Salad? Because the main ingredient is veggie (sprout, spring beans, tomato, sometimes carrot, mustard, potato, and/or other green veggies). But the sauce is from peanuts, and some flavors (Too long to explain further :D). Again and again, complete nutrient.:D We usually add lontong (food consisting of rice steamed in a banana leaf), tempe (fermented soybean cake, much protein), tahu (soybean curd) and boiled egg. We usually eat this together with kerupuk (chips made of flour flavored with fish or shrimp). You can choose if you like spicy or not, but mostly Indonesian Food is spicy,, hot.. Now, I feel full. :D

"A heart with love can make a good taste of food" ^^

Thank you so much for reading. I'd be glad to have opinions from you. I'm eager to know if there's such dishes in your country. I mean Indonesian food are there. Or you have a similar one. :) Thank you once again.

Have a wonderful December! ^_^

POETRY

Hi my dear friends in this great platform, MyEnglishClub! ^_^

For the whole last night, I’d been dizzy since something uncomfortable happened. (No, not the earthquake happened in Aceh, I’m in Surabaya, I hope everything there will be back to normal).

This morning, dear Luci woke me up with his blog about poem. Don’t worry Luci, I’m not a sensitive girl, I’m logical. :p I won’t eat you alive, otherwise I’m afraid you’ll get eaten…. *kidding… :D Smiles… ^^

I’m sorry to say that I need to write this blog since my comment would be long and I intend other members especially who feel discourage will read this too. :)

First, I will introduce myself that I WAS a student in a language class in Senior High School, so I learnt literature more than students in science class. But, I took Physics in the college. Strange?? But it is the fact. (Ok, that’s not important to tell actually) :D

Second, I’m NOT a PROFESSIONAL fluent English Teacher nor English Native Speaker. (So, people may think my words are not reliable… :( , it’s fine) I can still breath :)) :D

Hmm….I don’t like long blog, so I will make it brief. This is also for our knowledge. ;)

I learned poetry in my language. Several times I made poems to be read in the school, also lyrics to be yelled when I was a newbie at the Institute Technology. :D Well, it is about how to deliver a message in the term of poem. It is said there are many kinds of poem. Sure here I will give you information from internet, but that's not different from what I've learned. I won’t explain the detail, you can visit this link...

http://www.familyfriendpoems.com/poems/other/

http://www.poemofquotes.com/articles/poetry_forms.php

http://www.poeticterminology.net/

http://examples.yourdictionary.com/what-are-different-types-of-poems.html

Many types of poem are with the rules. From the strict rules to the easy rules. But you may miss one type of poems. This is called a Free Verse Poem

Definition of Free Verse

While it is easy to think that poems have to rhyme, free verse is a type of poetry that does not require any rhyme scheme or meter. Poems written in free verse, however, do tend to employ other types of creative language such as alliteration, words that begin with the same sound, or assonance, the repetition of vowel sounds.

Some people find free verse to be a less restrictive type of poetry to write since it doesn't have to employ the form or the rhyming schemes of other types of poetry.

The free verse form of poetry became popular in the 1800s, and continues to be popular among poets even to this day. TS Eliot was one of the masters of the form, as best seen in his poems The Waste Land and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, which begins:

Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherized upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming questionÉ.
Oh, do not ask, ÒWhat is it?Ó
Let us go and make our visit.

Free Verse is a form of Poetry composed of either rhymed or unrhymed lines that have no set fixed metrical pattern. The early 20th-century poets were the first to write what they called "free verse" which allowed them to break from the formula and rigidity of traditional poetry. The poetry of Walt Whitman provides many illustrations of Free Verse including his poem "Song of Myself".

Free Verse - A Free Verse Poem does not follow any rules. Their creation is completely in the hands of the author. Rhyming, syllable count, punctuation, number of lines, number of stanzas, and line formation can be done however the author wants in order to convey the idea. There is no right or wrong way to create a Free Verse poem

Here I found some examples for you.

America by Allen Ginsberg (Sorry, it's too long to copy here..:p)

Fog by Carl Sandburg

The fog comes

on little cat feet.

It sits looking

over harbor and city

on silent haunches

and then moves on.

A Birthday Poem by Ted Kooser

Just past dawn, the sun stands
with its heavy red head
in a black stanchion of trees,
waiting for someone to come
with his bucket
for the foamy white light,
and then a long day in the pasture.
I too spend my days grazing,
feasting on every green moment
till darkness calls,
and with the others
I walk away into the night,
swinging the little tin bell
of my name.
.
William Carlos Williams is one of the most important American free verse poets, along with Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot.
.
This Is Just To Say
by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

Barely tolerated, living on the margin
In our technological society, we were always having to be rescued
On the brink of destruction, like heroines in Orlando Furioso
Before it was time to start all over again.
There would be thunder in the bushes, a rustling of coils,…….
The whole thing might not, in the end, be the only solution……..
Came plowing down the course, just to make sure everything was O.K.…
About how to receive this latest piece of information.

Too many, you can google yourself... *peace.. ^_^

To be honest, :( this is the first time I heard that poem should have same rhyme, and should always have some rules. :( While for so long I really like this type of poetry. Also Narrative poems. Okay, my words may not be reliable. Tell me where my mistake is. What about those famous Free Verse Poem Poets? Not acknowledged?

I'm sorry I failed to make a short blog. I didn’t realize that this would be long. :p Time to say……

Thank you so much for reading. My friends, please don't feel discourage. I really really appreciate your all efforts in my challenge, and you know there’re still 19 words left, wanna try more? :)) C'mon please....GO GO GO....!! Eva would cheers you up. :)) :D I hope this blog will be useful for you. Note: I would never ever praise your post if it is NOT from the bottom of my heart.

I hope everybody can use different words and all will be used up. :) Thanks a million. I will try to make a list of your poems here. Here is mine as an example. :D

I Didn't Dare

I didn’t dare to say
I didn’t dare to see
I didn’t dare to draw near
I even didn’t dare to be seen in front of you
I was not hurt
I just avoid being hurt
Just because of ...
your superciliousness

Shocked

You came
You sat on the sofa
You called me
I didn’t notice
I was shocked to see blood
My head was bleeding
I noticed that
colander flew striking my head

I’m sorry… LOL

I’m looking forward to reading yours. I know you're all so creative. :)

This idea came up from the suggestion from Risty Aven who wants to use the words after the guessing the words in the game. Yes, most of the words are rarely used as Expector said. That's why we call it challenge. :D Thank you so much for Risty and all who support this way of learning vocabulary.

Have a pleasant week! ^_^

AG's Writing Challenge: Tell A Joke

Hi all MyEC friends, ^_^
It's been a while I didn't write anything here. Let me try to write again. First I would like to join AG's Challenge. Here're my dull jokes. :D

Two Indonesian people are in the dialog:
Budi: What is the English word for 'KESET'??
Mamat: It is 'WELCOME'.
Budi: Really? I think it may be something else,  mmm...
Mamat: I'm sure it is,,  it is usually written there.

**** doormat = keset
.
Budi: You know, over there,  there's a CAR WASH. But this is so special as it is called 'CUCI MOBIL SALJU' means 'SNOW CAR WASH'
Mamat: Oh, I see. This city is so hot,  so it must be a little expensive since it needs much ICE.
Budi: Nooo, they don't need it...
Mamat: How could it be?
Budi: You see, the foam of laundry soap or shampoo on the car.... Those are 'the snow'.
Mamat: ???

I wonder if those jokes are only here in Indonesia. After the washing, I think my motorbike's painting was fading, seriously, foam is expert for it. :D

Thank you very much for reading. Have a wonderful week! ^_^

Who Is to blame?

“Dad, may I hang out with my friend?” begged Rasha.

“No, you can’t!” her father answered.

She asked, “Why?”

“You stay home!”, said her Dad firmly without any explanations.

This 16 years old girl still wanted to persuade her parents “Mom, please let me hang out with my friend!”

“No, dear, you’d better stay home!” her beautiful mom replied.

“C’mon, Dad….! It will not be long”

She started to feel annoyed and argue with her parents. “I will just go for a while, why should I just stay home? It’s not fair. My friends often hang out everywhere every day, but why I may not. I do nothing at home, it’s boring”

Suddenly, a sharp knife flew passing beside her left hand. It was from her father. She was shocked and cried.

After an hour, she was still full of anger. She grabbed the key, took the motorbike, and left home without any permission from parents. This smart girl was supposed to have a course at 18.00. But that time, she was hanging out with her ….. boyfriend, whom her parents never agree with.

Feeling stressed under the pressure of parents, she drank liquor or kind of (actually I don’t know what the name is, lol) and consumed drugs. It was her boyfriend who made her like that. She came home at night without any words and slept. None of people in her house knows.

Well, don’t say it is in Islamic country. I think in all countries, liquor is banned for use under 17 years old or students. Drugs, is banned everywhere for sure.

Now, could you tell me why you think this could happen? I think parents need a time for their children. It’s not only time, but also closeness between children and parents. If NOT, could you think what happen will in her future? What about another possibility in doing the next bad action due to the addiction? It is liable that there are many other children in the world who are in the same situation. Devil always want to destroy people through the weakest and the most innocent,,, children.

I’m sad to see this right before my eyes.

Thank you for reading and comment.
Best wishes,
Onee
