As humans, If we did follow what kind of concepts this is. This story teaches a valuable lesson for us.

A young lady sat on a bus. At the next stop, an old lady got on the same bus and sat next to the young lady. She spoke loudly and looked grumpy. She squeezed the seat with her big sized bags. The person, who sat on the other side of the young lady, got upset and asked, "I can guess that you feel much uncomfortable. But why don’t you say anything to her about your inconvenience".

The young lady responded with a nice smile.

"It is not necessary to be rude or argue over something so insignificant, the journey together is too short. I get off at the next stop".

These words deserve to be written in golden letters.

“*It is not necessary to be rude or argue over something so insignificant. Our journey together is too short*”

If we can understand that our time here is too short. Quarrels, futile arguments, not forgiving others, discontentment and a fault finding attitudes and many of our negative thoughts are wasting our time and energy.

Did someone break your heart? Did someone betray, bully cheat or humiliate you? Whatever troubles anyone makes, we should bethink,

Our journey is too short. Therefore, be calm, be humble and be forgiving.

No one knows, the duration of this journey. No one knows, when the end comes. Do we know, what is the point we will get off from our life journey?

So, Let us cherish family and friends.  Let us be respectful, kind and forgiving each other. Let us fill our lives with gratitude and gladness.

Because our journey together is too short!!!!

If I can.....

If I can flow, like a river, through the dry lands,

That didn’t feel wetness since a long time….

If I can be cooked, like a rice bowl in a hut secretly,

The rice couldn’t be cooked….

If I can stay, like a smile on the lips of kids,

That forgot the smile….

If I can bloom, like flowers on the trees,

That everyone can be able to pluck them….

If I can sleep, as a true sweet dream, in the eyes,

That never had a good sleep.….

If I can sing a song like a bird on the door by door,

That the world can be able to wake up….

If I can spread love, as a loving mother to the hearts,

That who never felt love….

If I can be a wish light, in the dark hearts,

That has a hopeless tomorrow….

(I got the spirit of my poem from a most popular song in my country. And it sings, songstress, Hon.Mrs. Nanda  Malini)

It was a new day. In this morning, the green valley was bathed sunrise, just like on other days. Birds were singing and starting their daily rituals. The dew was shining like the crystals with the sunrise,  which had fallen on the flower petals. That wonderful morning, a stranger was coming, through the narrow path down the valley. He was a young boy, tall, handsome and smart. If the morning was so much beauty, his face appeared with a very pleasant smile. His name was Dilan.

There was a beautiful big house the end of the valley. It closed to the road. That big house was surrounded by a high parapet wall and it stood in the valley, with a very proud stance. The large balcony had filled with different type of flowers. No one could see around. So Dilan watched that house as he desired. Also, it was a small window on a corner of the balcony. He just stopped and vanished his smile.  A beautiful woman was looking at him with a smile, by the window. He just felt like a thief himself. Blushed his face. He forgot to smile back. But he couldn’t take out his vision. Because her eyes had bound with his eyes very tightly, in that a few seconds, like an illusion. He tried to pass that place quickly.

When he entered the population road where placed his office. It was an Engineering firm that he had joined since one week. He started to work after meeting his colleagues. If he is attending to do whatever, He couldn’t forget that innocent eyes, which he had seen in the morning. That beautiful face, pleasant smile, that everything began to rotate around his mind. For a moment, he tried to forget her. But it was not an easy task. When, he recalled that facial expression, his heart became filled with delicate feelings. “How beautiful she is?” He whispered to himself.

That day, he felt the time was very slower than other days. At the end of the day, he left the apartment immediately. Because his aim was to see that face again. When seeing that house from away, his heartbeat was rapid. But he could make courage to see that window again. Just as he had hoped, that nice smile could be seen again through the window.

The days passed quickly. Their eyes began to speak, at the very first moment they saw each other. Both of them became very close in hearts during that period. The love, how was left out from their eyes, even felt around the nature.

One evening when he was coming along the road, the huge gate had been opened in that house.

“Son, ” He stopped the voice of a gentle. Just a person appeared in front of him.

“Son, I want to speak with you a bit. Can you come with me.”?

Dilan was following him without any speaking. Inside that house was very charming and quiet.

Her father started to speak very calmly. “I know everything about you. Your office in charge is one of my friends. He has told me everything about you. Also, I know the affair with my daughter and you. But still, you have seen only her face. You don’t know other anything about her. She is a disabled girl. She has disabled a year ago, in an unfortunate accident. Now she cannot walk alone.

Dilan was shocked and speechless. His eyes just filled with tears. He felt, stuck something inside his throat. He looked at father in an extremely desperate manner.

Then, she came with her mother. Mother was behind her wheelchair. Just he stood. He couldn’t believe his eyes. That much she was beautiful. Like an angel. She was looking at him, with her fascinating smile.

“Son, this is the time, you can take any decision”

He slowly went to her and caught her hand with great emotion.

“Darling, I do love you so much. I never leave you. Your disability, couldn’t disable my love.” He said it with a firm tone.

Raj was a little boy. No one did not know his age properly. He was living with a rich family in the city of Colombo. That rich family had 2 kids, girl Emy was10 years and boy Dean was 7. Dean and Raj seem to be the same age.

When Emy and Dean were at school, Raj must help servant Mary and watcher Raman with chores and housekeeping. Raj was brought by Raman to the house from a village. Raj could remember, One day his mother and stepfather gave him to Raman. Raman gave a good amount of money to the stepfather. When Raj was 1 1/2 years, his father died in an accident. After a while, his mother married again. They were very poor family and lived in a shack, covered with wattle and daub structure. From her second marriage, she had two boys. Shortly after the stepfather’s behaviour changed towards Raj, he always looked at Raj as cruel. When he came home in the evening, he always got angry with Raj and sometimes used to beat him without any reason. His mother felt so helpless. Sometimes she fought with the stepfather.  Stepfather had been addicted to drinks. So, Raj’s mother couldn’t protect of Raj. Finally, she decided to give her loving son to a rich family who can care for him.

Before Raj had to leave home, his mother cried a lot and said that “I will come to see you soon and bring you with me again here, for the New Year festival. Till then you go with this uncle. They are very rich and good people. They promised me, that they will take good care of you and send you school. Go there my darling. There is the better place for you”  His mother’s words comforted little Raj and made so many hopes in his mind about his future.

But, that family didn’t keep their word as they promised his mother. Since Raj came to that big house, he had to do many things, as did not match his age. He did not have the opportunity to play with Emmy and Dean. When they were playing badminton, tennis or something he always had to pick up only the out balls. He always felt loneliness and was remembering his mother. When the children fondle with their mother, Raj was always watching them with eyes full of tears. Oftentimes he was with hopeful eyes and looked at the road hoping that his mother would come and bring him back home. By the end of every day, he turned with a collapsed mind. But didn’t get angry with his mother. Instead of waiting for her, he made a decision.

“I should go to see my mother soon and find out whether she has been in any trouble. When I arrive in town, I will ask people the way to go to my village”

Many nights when he was sleeping, his mother came through dreams. His mother was a beautiful lady. Her smile was so nice. Every night she touched his head motherly and gave a lot of kisses to him. In his every dream, she was dressed in the same skirt and blouse, in blue and white colours. One day he saw a beautiful dream. He had gone home back and his two younger brothers and he were lightning crackers for the New Year festival. The faces of all had filled with more pleasure.

As a daily routine, Raj had to go to a grocery to buy daily needs and bring them home. After coming home Mary gave a few coins to him. Besides his a few clothes, it was only his whole treasure. Until now he had collected about 200 rupees bit by bit. Following day as usual, when he went to the city, he walked here and there in it. When meeting some people he asked,

“Do you know, how to go to the Negombo?”.It’s my village. Have you ever seen my mother, she is very beautiful and dressed blue skirt and white blouse. She is living there with my brothers."

Many people looked at him with kind eyes. But some once took him as a joke. But he never gave up his effort. Also anytime if he went somewhere, he didn’t forget to bring his coin collection.

Just he saw a man selling crackers. He was delighted. He reached nearby seller quickly.

”Uncle, Last year my mother bought crackers for me. Did she take them from you?

Seller looked at him and said,”Ohh maybe. Do you want again? The seller's face drew a foxy smile.

Yes, but before that, I want to go to my village. My mother told me that she would come to carry me home. She lives in Negombo. But she hasn't come, yet. Uncle, do you know my mother? She always wears blue skirt and white blouse. She is beautiful!!"

“Oh, why not? I know your mother”

I’m also Negombo. I can give your message to the mother. But before going there, I have to sell my all crackers. I want money. If you buy crackers from me, I can give your message quickly.”

“Uncle here my money"  The child kept his all treasure on the seller's hand.

The seller promised to send the message to his mother soon.

He started to go back home like a king who won a crown. After came home he worked harder than before with more pleasure.

On that day night, Raj fell to sleep with so many hopes. In midnight grace heard slimly tones of Raj. He was whispering,

“Mother please don’t light crackers without me”

Everywhere is greenery. Trees have filled with fresh leaves. Flowers are blossoming. Birds are singing. Especially Koha’s sweet rhythm is spreading surrounding. Koha is, Asian kovul and it is a harbinger who brings the message of that the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. It is the most interesting and special festival in my country.

According to the Sinhala calendar, April is ‘Bak’ month. The name 'Bak' is derived from the Sanskrit word. Sinhala meaning of it 'bhagya' and in English ‘fortunate’. Then we think April is “fortunate month”. Generally, Sri Lankan Sinhala (especially Buddhist) and Tamil Hindu religionist are celebrating “Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival” in every year 13th and 14th April. New Year starting traditionally bathing on the last day of the old year (13th)and at the sighting of the new moon on the same night. The Sinhalese astrologists say, New Year starts when the sun moves from Meena Rashiya (the house of Pisces) to Mesha Rashiya (the house of Aries). It also marks the end of the harvest and start of the spring.

Before New Year, everyone cleaning, painting and decorating houses and household items to give the fresh look to their old houses. For everyone buying new clothes. Housewives preparing sweetmeats, such as kevum(oil cake),Kokis (crisp), Asmi, Aluva and many things.

When starts the new year, first transaction, first lighting of the hearth, first meal preparing, (milk rice) Having foods together, the first application of oil to hair, to name a few are all done according to auspicious times. (We are calling nekath). Every house, they begin by facing the correct direction doing milk boiling and everyone having milk rice at the same time. People considering, milk boiled in a new earthen pot and allowed to milk spills over from all sides of the pot, as of symbolising of prosperity.

During the inauspicious time (nonagathaya – between the end of the old year and begin the New Year) according to custom people keep off from all types of works and engage in religious activities and traditional games. Also, the custom of offering betel to parents’ and elders symbolises the act of paying gratitude. The children, in turn, receive blessings and gifts from parents and elders. Sharing sweetmeat plates and gifts among relations, friends and neighbours. People forget every strained relation from the past year and make new good attitudes for the New Year. The sense of goodwill and friendship among relations and friends is also seen during the festival time.

Nowadays, so special for kids. They have 03 weeks’ school vacation period. They are enjoying with lots of activities and games even elders. Village beauties beating the rabana (tambourine) to the so many tunes. It’s a one-sided drum. Mostly, elder ladies engage in playing Rabana. Also swinging, it is also famous among children and ladies. And there are so many activities and games in this period among people.

End of the New Year festival by apply oil to hair. In mostly oil applying ceremony doing related the temples in everywhere of the country. Especially anointing the herbal oil before bathing and is usually done by an elderly priest, with blessings for health and longevity.

Sinhala and Tamil New Year has become a national fiesta engaging all in celebration of family and togetherness and harmony between all communities. As such “Sinhala Avurudda” (New Year) is symbolising of togetherness and “harmony”.

 සුභ අලුත් අවුරුද්දක් වේවා!

Happy Sinhala & Tamil New Year!

You are my best BUDDY!

My dear little friend, I know well,

I can’t be your mum, similarly sister,

Any girlfriend or will not be wife,

Also, I know well, I can’t see you,

I can’t meet you, I can’t touch you,

Because I’m only your angel, as you told,

But if you were anywhere,

I’m always thinking,

If I could, hold your face on my chest,

If I could touch your head motherly,

I can feel you that much,

I can read your innocent eyes.

Really, I hear your Voice of heart,

When you are crying, Cried me too a lot,

Because you belong my heart,

Nothing any hopes, only one thing,

I am begging  you,

If I could be your best buddy here,

That’s enough my dear.

If I could make a smile on your face,

Feel warm day than night - Does it have any different

So, one evening when my husband come home, I complained that fact and I told him “please bring me a little and cheap phone,(cannot install games or cartoons) I need only talk, that’s enough for me. Also, Unawareness he will stop his bad addiction”.

My husband agreed with me and he replied “Ok I’ll bring, then you keep your smart phone hidden for a few days, and tell him phone was missing or sold”.

When we were speaking, son came among us. He had been listening our conversation, but he couldn’t understand that, what is the meaning of it?

He tell meMom it’s better, you bring a new one, give your phone for me, Then I can play games freely".

This story also related my son and phone.

That day he was playing games again. Just I took the phone. He got angry with me and said loudly,    "Mom, one day when I will become a big boy, I chase (drive away) you from home”

I got a sad face and said calmly, “If you chase me from home, where do I live? Ohhh.. Sometime, I can live in a shade of a tree. But, if will fell heavy rains, then I will wring wet. ….How poor guy I am? …..He looked at me, and was thinking a few seconds. Gave kisses and hugged me. After tell slowly,

A thought, for the life.....

You can buy, a House

But can’t buy, a Family

You can buy, a Bed

But can’t buy, Sleep

You can buy, Books

But can’t buy, Knowledge

You can buy, a Clock

But can’t buy, Time

You can buy, Position

But can’t Buy, Honour

You can Buy Blood

But can’t Buy, Life–span

You can Buy Marriage

But can’t buy Love

You can buy many comfortable things

But can’t buy Pleasure

Money is not Everything!

There was a kid, named Shane. One day came a new teacher to the class. She is very beautiful. Like a fairy. “Good morning my dear children” Teacher said kindly. Shane went to the table. “Teacher, my mother and father are not with me” “Why? “Did any accident happened to them?” “No teacher” Teacher understood, that there was a long story inside his innocent eyes. “OK my son, let’s speak later, now go and sit”

. ”teacher taught nicely and she is so kind” while teaching, everyone thought so. At interval, a boy came to meet the teacher. ”Teacher I’m in Shane’s class” “Yes dear” “Teacher don’t take notice of Shane. Any new teacher who comes to the class, he used to tell his story. Shane is a naughty boy. He always use wrong words and hit everyone. Also he doesn’t greet any teacher.” The boy non-stop narrated.

Next day teacher came to Shane’s class. When started the interval, all the children ran to the playground. But Shane dragged slowly to the teachers table. “Don’t you play” “no teacher”, “do you know what happened to my parents?” “No, but I’d like to hear it”

“Teacher, my mother is very beautiful, as you. A few years ago, we were living happily. In course of mother and father started to fight. Sometimes, father used to beat mother. One day he beat to mother and left home. Before leaving he said: “don’t stay here, you should go away””

“Mother hugged me and said: “my loving son, I have to go now. I don’t have any place to take you along. You stay here with dad. I’ll come back soon.” She cried more and left home. But has not yet come to see me. In the evening, father came with an aunty. “This is your new mother, greet her.” The step mother is a furious women.  After she came, I had to do every household work. She used to scold and hit me, when I did any small mistake. My father is also afraid of her. One day father went away, to find a new job.”

“The step mother did cruel things. She didn’t give any good food to eat. One fine day, a man came. He seem to a magician. The step mother bought a carpet from him. She said: “This is a magic carpet, keep it inside the home.” The carpet was so heavy. So, it dropped from my hands. At that time she beat me.  Then my head was injured. After that, the magician consoled me and gave a bucket full of bananas. I was angry with them and threw out to the monkeys. Monkeys ate all with fighting. “

“Teacher, my father is responsible for all this wrong. If I meet him, I’ll kill him. Really I hate him.”…… “Teacher are you listening to me?” “Yes dear, do you think that, I am like your mother?” ….“Indeed! I feel my mother’s aroma by you”

Teacher looked at him with eyes full of tears. She felt that something stuck hers throat.  She touched his head lovingly. “My dear son, I know you are very innocent and clever.”  “Yes teacher, I can study well. But nobody help me. They says I’m a very bad boy, I have only one friend, and friend of mine is curious and greedy.  He stay with me, because he can steal food from others.  But, no one clever than me at English.” Teacher understood that Shane is going on a wrong path.” My son, I’ll give you a chance, you are the monitor in this class from today. Then you will be able to do every responsibilities with decently and patiently. You should greet every teacher. Especially you should do your studies well. If you need something tell me, without hesitating. Also, every day I’ll bring some food for you. I need to see you be a very clever gentlemen in future. Don’t worry, I love you so much my son.” Shane felt unlimited trust and love, about teacher.

From next day, Shane came to school very happily. He did every responsibilities  successfully. After few weeks, he could win every hearts and be a brighter student in his class. Finally he was able to win the 01st place in grade 5 scholarship exam, in that province. And his school became a splendid school.

But the fairy wants to save me. She gave me a boon. It was a best chance for me to be a good child and good leader. At that time I hate my father. But the fairy killed the demon in my heart. Now I have only one dream. I want to live again with my mother and father. Shane told crying. Not only Shane, who had heard that speech, everyone cried.

Next day, Shane’s parents got that message. And they came to school to see their loving son. That meeting was a very emotion moment. Every eyes had filled with tears.  “Teacher, you are great. You gave a new life to us. No words to say thank you. You are a real fairy.”

My Loving Mother

My loving mother, you left me like in a dream,
I still feel you here close to me,
Though it’s ten years….
But it looks to me like yesterday,
I’ll always remember….
How you cared for me with all the love you had,
In your hearted with compassionate,
You bore everything, with equanimity,
You were my strength evermore,
As for me; I am still your little girl,
Whom you led by hand,
I still feel sleep on your lap pocket,
Get rolled up you,
You were never tired to see to my needs,
I’ll always miss you mother dear,
No one can take your place,
My wish, you be my loving mother in every becoming….

You are the greatest in my life

I’ll love you till I die..
