  • A Warm Welcome!!.. to MyEnglishClub..!!.. Hope!!.. u will enjoy this Club..!!.. and wish u a Great Start..ahead..!!..
  • Are you looking to be fluent in speaking, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary, listening, and understanding? In other words, does you question involve all of these aspects or are there one or two areas where you especially want to be fluent? If it is all of them, then this could be a very extensive question with a very broad answer.
In truth, the best way to become fluent in English is to live in an English-speaking country for a period of time. This immersion into the English-speaking world is absolutely the best because it forces you to survive by using the langauge.

I am sure this is not something one can always afford to do. So next I would say get an English-speaking tutor who will engage you in conversation and correct you as you speak. I am doing this with a couple students and their English is improving greatly. In our sessions I can correct pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, etc. I can address all areas of English immediately. I teach them all verb tenses and how and when to use them. Each student gets different treatment because each one has different needs and I adjust what we do to what they need. If they have papers to write for schooling or presentations to do at work, we work on it together.
If you can't find or afford a person like this, find a friend who speaks English to help you. We all need feed back (corrections) in order to improve and become fluent. They key to fluency is practicing and experience. If you can't find an English-speaking friend to help you, then you need to find other ways.
Reading a lot of English newspapers, books or articles on the internet are important for getting good vocabulary. It means looking up the words, which is hard work. Listening to English TV or movies with subtitles or without helps with understanding English speakers. We do not speak the same way we write and it takes time to truly understand the way we speak. Your ears have to be exposed to our speaking a lot before you can really comprehend all we are saying.
Writing is another thing. The way we write is different than how we speak It is more formal and less slang is used. You really need someone who will read your writing and give you feed back - correct it and give you suggestions on better ways to write.
Pronunciation is an important part of fluency. I have some very educated students in my classes who did well in their universities in their countries. But when they come to the USA, nobody can understand them. Pronunciation also requires good feed back. And many English teachers do not know how to help people pronounce well. they just ask the student to repeat the sounds that they make. I have learned the mechanics of speech - how the lips move, the jaw, the mouth, the tongue and do we use our voice or just blow air. So you need a teacher who understands how to tell you to pronounce and not just imitate.
So you can see why I said this is a broad issue with many different answers. It all depends on how much you have available to you in your country. So there is no easy answer. I wish I could give you simple tasks that would allow you to become fluent instantly. But without a tutor, it is a big challenge.
  • How would you specifically like me to help you?
  • Hi Eya,
You are from Tunis? Is it hot there now? I am from the northeastern part of the USA and spring is finally arriving. At last we can see flowers pushing through the ground and we can hear the birds sing. It has been a very cold winter.

  • Hi Eya,
It is a pleasure to meet you. I need to tell you that I am going on a long vacation (holiday) after April 30. I will take a vacation from English club. I will return September. I see that you need more experience speaking with native speakers. That is difficult to find, isn't it? Where do you teach and how long have you been teaching?
