If Today Was Your Last Day

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrXIQQ8PeRs

This song is about never giving up on life - to live each day to the fullest and that it's never too late to find that someone you love.

Here's the lyrics:

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day
(If today was your last day)

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce old memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreaming of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothing stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

  • Thanks Tanya,
Actually I'm not a fan of Nickelback but I love songs with inspirational advice. With great meaning. Totally agreed with your interpretation and don't forget this song advice us to take every opportunity we had like today is our last day.
    • Yes, of course, I meant that. Is it "Imagine" that has given  you an idea of this discussion? Last or only one day is of no matter, the idea is the same.  I am not young, and i know what I mean saying I live for today. But in any age we should feel like that. Otherwise, there is no sense to live. It is a very good discussion. I'd like many people to take part in it.

    • Thanks Tanya for your lovely and valuable comments. Can you help me with the sentence, "leave no stone unturned". I can hardly find its meaning. :-)
    • Dear friend! I will try. It is a proverb that means  you should take any chance, any opportunity to reach your goals. It is almost the same to the proverb I used "under a stone mat lies still no water flows". Is it clear or you need more explanations? Just tell me, OK?

    • Clearly explanation, Tanya. Thanks.
  • Dear Burn Bakaq! Although I don't like such hard rock, I like this song. It is thoughtful idea full of common sense. So, my interpretation is the following: we should live our lives trying to reach our goals, doing something, trying to reach for the stars, not being indifferent to what is going on around, being generous, kind, loving. As it is well-known, under a stone mat lies still no water flows and what you give you get back. Thank you, it is a good song!

  • Thanks Elen for your nice comment. Very good interpretation by you.
  • Nice song, it is good to have an optimistic friend to give you good advice, to make you feel optimism too :)
