  • Thanks for the explanation. If I understand correctly, the communication interference by the sun flare is temporary and recoverable, right? Or, will it leave a physical damage to the satellites?
Do you think it's possible that the Internet substitutes all other communication devices? Of course the world will need to share it sparingly...
  • Is mainly problems for radio and television transmitting. Cable and wire carries signals without so much problem. Our military and others has studied effect form last solar storms and we have trained to deal with some problem. Mainly securing communications from depending on radio frequency waves is safest. Command and control is ultimate function so communication is developed for alternate uses. Laser light, and other means of transmitting urgent messages is prepared. loss of some nonessential communication is expected. Every country has preparation for the events which happen on a rotating cycle.
  • Do you have any reliable sources for that "Sun flare" stuff? Is the earth's magnetic field strong enough to protect us from it?
If that is true, we are going to have whole bunch of radioactive junks on the orbit. Some of them may fall down to the ground. That's not cool at all...
  • Tat was a cool web clip., !!!!
Now., wat matters much is the Sun Flares goin to hit earth by 2012., which is goin to burn all the satellite & telecommunication Accessories al together...!
How coool is tat ., !!!!!!
  • Only just deflect rock if danger toward hitting.
  • Hi itsmehp,

It doesn't seem the asteroid collision is an urgent issue. Recent news in Nature (http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100908/full/467140a.html) says NASA is wondering if they should spend so much money on tracking space rocks and deflecting them.
