Which Box?

We have 10 boxes of chocolate.Each box has 1000 pieces of chocolate.The weight of each piece of chocolates is 10gr in all of the boxes except one of them that has pieces that are 9gr.We have a balance and we can use it only once.How can we find the box that has pieces of chocolate that are 9gr?

    • Thank you, Ahmed. Maybe you are right. Darius’s solution wasn’t in my mind at all, but I’m sure that it will be stay in my mind and I can do many things according to that in the future.

      New and inventive solutions are always the best. Please try to solve puzzles without thinking about minds.

    • Another way :

      1 - We give numbers from 1-10 to each box

      2 - We make a mix from pieces of each box with the amount of its number, for example 1 piece from box No1 ,two pieces from box  No2 .....10 pieces from box No 10

      3- Check the weight of 55 pieces ( 1+2+3+4....+10=55 )

      4- If all of pieces was 10 Gr total weight was 550 Gr  the difference between 550 and real weight shows the number of 9Gr box

      For example if box No 4 is 9 Gr then :

      Box No : 1   2   3   4   5   6   7   8   9   10

      Pieces  : 1+2 + 3 +4 + 5 +6+ 7+ 8 +9 + 10 = 55

      Weight : 10+20+ 30+36+50+60+70+80+90+100=446

       

      550-446=4

    • Thank you Ahmed for your attention. I thought we are able to put all boxes on the pan to balance them and we can put them one by one but as you said we can't do it and it means I should go back to the drawing board.

    • Yes, we are able to put as many as boxes that we like on the pan. But we should do it only once. (Infact it is our limitaion)
