A SAD STORY

A Sad Story

One day three friends called Tom, Andy and Peter came to New York for a holiday. They went to a very large hotel and took a room there. Their room was on the forty-fifth floor.

In the evening the friends went to the theatre and came back to the hotel very late.

"I'm sorry", said the clerk on duty at the hotel, "but our lifts are not working. If you don't want to walk up to your room, you will have to sleep in the hall".

"No, no", said one of the three men, "no, thank you. We don't want to sleep in the hall. We'll walk up to our room".

Then he turned to his two friends and said, "It's difficult to walk up to the forty-fifth floor, but I think I know how to make it easier. I'll tell you some funny jokes; then you, Andy, will sing us some songs; then you, Peter, will tell us an interesting story with a sad ending".

So they began to walk up to their room. Tom told them many funny jokes, Andy sang some merry songs, at last they came to the thirty-fourth floor. It was very difficult to get there.

"Well", said Tom, "now we'll listen to you, Peter. Tell us a long and interesting story with a sad ending".

"I'll tell you a story", answered Peter. "It isn't long, but it's sad enough. We've left the key to our room in the hall".

Question: what do you think the three friends decided to do next? Did they went downstairs to the hall to get the key? One of the friends went to the hall or all the three with jokes & songs? What would be your end of the story?
