Let's DISCUSS: REDUCED ENGLISH

Hi and good morning.

Let's discuss the problem of reducing English as a language. i want to illustrate what I mean:

Are you "FOR" or "AGAINST" such actions in any language? To my mind, when people try to make something easy and short somehow characterize them as lazy, not attentive and again lazy people. Personally I don't like when someone asks me using these reduced words and I usually ignore such messages as "HAI, H R U?" :)

And what is your opinion?:) Thanks.

  • I used/use reduced only when I take dictation in shorthand.

  • Indeed :)

  • I have already said it is somewhat allowable in chat room (though I again disagree because of the learning point of view).

Is our correspondence with any official be acknowledgeable if writeen in short English.  I think they will through it away.

  • Valentina, your answers smell aggressive :) this is what I don't like here. I believe that personal positions can be described in a nice and funny way :) cheers

Lazy people don't do many actions. they just sit and do nothing. I'd say that a wheel or a chair was invented by a person who loved comfort and wanted to have an ergonomic life ;)

So, that means that they don't want to do any extra job. To be ergonomic they use U instead of YOU and R instead of ARE, why not? Why (or Y?:) we use only one letter for the first person singular and must use three letters for the second person which sounds like one letter U? Once people dropped the whole word THOU being sure that YOU would be enough, maybe for the sake of ergonomy. By the way haven't you noticed that the word ERGONOMY is composed of two reduced words? Examples are innumerous. In fact, the language is not a static thing. It has been changing constantly. Somebody doesn't like the way Americans write 'favorite', 'color' and many other words without U, and what? They don't find that letter necessary if it doesn't sound. Many people once didnt like OK, and what? Now OK is almost in all languages. Older people usually don't like newer things but who asks them?

You know, while the hardworking were carrying heavy things on their backs, the lazy invented the weel. While the hardworking were walking for miles, the lazy invented the bicycle and the car. Have you ever sat in an office armchair on weels? Maybe you have such at home? Be sure, it was invented by a lazy person, one hundred per cent! Progress has been made by lazy people.
  • Reduced language is like LOVE in a JIFFY!

  • RichardofYork, and I'm against reduced English in private messages when people here try to improve it. It real irritates me and I should ignore such "H R U" and "SUL" and so on :)
