A Cure To Perfectionism!

I am a perfectionist. To tell you the truth, I hate it because I can not do anything as I want to. Even though I usually recieves a lot of encouragement and praise, I mentally dissatisfied. The reasons for dissatisfaction is that I always think too much to do my job prior to practically do it. Everything must be perfect so I spend a lot of time doing it right. For example, if I want to paint, I spend a lot of time on finding an excellent photo then, I try to paint it perfectly. This consumes a lot of energy and mind which brings fatigue and disappointment and ultimately, it ends up doing nothing.

So, I have decided to get rid of this attitude. Everything must not necessirily be perfect. I was watching a TV show two days ago that I saw a famous Canadian singer,Jann Arden. She said that she experiences different skills and hobbies without thinking if she is perfect in them or not. She paints and everybody says if she puts the painting upside-down, it may be better. Even though people laugh at her paintings, she keeps doing because this makes her delightful.

I think this is great attitude. Enjoying is a major part of life. So, I found an article which may help cure this annoying habit. Hope you enjoy reading it.

Enjoy your time,

Nafis

  • Dear Steven,

This is right. I realized the important thins is just "to do" something and as you said, after a while, we will be good at it.
Thanks a lot for your clarification.

  • Hi there,
    Nice topic…

I’m a weak perfectionist too, it is good and bad; it is a paradoxical state. I mean we should try to be perfect but in real world it is not possible (just few exceptions).

In my view, the perfectionism concerning about material aspects is not good, I mean nothing is perfect in physical and material world and we should remove them from our mind, but in spiritual manners and ethics, perfectionism is good and we can adjust ourselves with them. Relativity is opposite of perfectionism, unfortunately in many cases, we mix them together in this modern world and as a consequence we get into troubles….

  • Dear Francesco,

You are right. Being perfectionist is not that bad that I think. However, I am always harsh with myself as if I punish myself or want me to do more and more.

    Take great care,
    Nafis
