Today morning about 10 O'clock (Tehran time: GMT + 03:30), when I signed in the EC, I got surprised !! ,,, In fact I had never seen such scene on my screen (even at the midnight) !! ,,, The number of online members was 8 ; it can be a warning for us, it can be an alarm !!
I remember 3 years ago (early in 2013), in the nights, we had around 90 members online, but what about these nights ? ,,, If I don't mistake, the total number of members was about 78000 in that moment (and the current number of EC members is 143602). what has happened ? ,,, As the EC is our learning (or teaching) site, so we must not be inattentive to that. All days we may see that many new members join EC, but where are they !? ,,, Why despite the increase in quantity of members, we see the decrease in the number of online chatters, number of annual blogs and finally the total activity of EC !? ,,, The other significant point is that we didn't have such rapid degradation in the blog part. The following numbers, show total number of blogs in each year .
2009 ---> 2495 2010 ---> 3534 2011 ---> 4771 2012 ---> 3328
2013 ---> 4556 2014 ---> 3710 2015 ---> 3517 2016 ---> ????
Now, let's discuses about and analyze the reasons.

Zen and you are welcome, about your question at the end of your reply, I suppose that you mean "What are you looking for here?" ,,, related to the sentence before the question, I think you mean which kinda personality I am looking for, to be friend. To be honest, in the past I spent much time in the main room (for chatting), but nowadays, my activity is limited to writing blogs, commenting and participating in discussions. And as you know, in these activities, it doesn't need to know members' personalities. So I can be friend with all persons and personalities. :)
By the way, thank you so much for participating in the discussion and also for your precious and nice advice.

Yes, I do agree with you, in fact in previous years, we had at least one online moderator in the main room all the time. But now you may not see any moderator to supervise the chatting in the main room.

So the fluctuation of blogs from 2009 to 2016 is: up, up, down, up, down, down, down.
I have no ideal in chatting section. Base on the amount of blogs change I can't guess the future of blog section. I just hope we can keep our English Club exist. I see many new members with many new blogs this year. I feel it is good for our blog section.
This year I'm so busy at work so I don't have change to post many blogs. I can't read all blogs but at least I still here. I go on it almost every day. If I don't have time to comment right away I will do it later.
Besides I have good friends here so it is one reason that I still join.
I have a suggest: I think we probably need a new Administration after Tara's leaving. I hope we have another enthusiastic one who can attract the attention. If we can find one it will be great.

Exactly ! ,,, In fact, making a site up to date and upgrading that, play a vital and important role in success of that site. There are many samples of possible upgrading for EC, and many works can be done by the owner to reach to that goal, such as the ones which you mentioned. Also members can help the founder by their possible suggestions and if they (dear founder) want, we can make another discussion on that topic.
See Barbare, our hearts say one thing, but the statistics says another thing; Our feelings say one thing, but our logic and wisdom say other thing !! ,,,, But what we should listen to !? ,,, I don't want to be like the man who was fleeing from a dog and the dog with a loudly barking, was running after him. While escaping, the man occasionally looked at the dog and although he saw that it is dog, but he said to himself " I hope it is a cat " !!!.
If you or Noa or other members like EC, I also like EC. I didn't say those sentences based on my feeling. It is a FACT based the science either you believe or not. We can easily say, no problem, take it easy, the situation will become normal again, the EC activities will be increased one day in the future and so on. But my duty was to say that and I said and I cannot do anything more. After all, I also hope that the missed EC popularity will be gained again.
But about your discussion, to be honest, I already wanted to reply that, however, as your question was hard, I didn't do that !! ;-) ,,, But now, you caught me with your request. :)

Thanks for the mentioned reasons, but about the first one I must say that, if one the reasons of EC popularity decrease (in comparison with past time) would be that the active members are busy in their life, it means that in past time which the EC popularity was better, amount of activity was better, total chatters and blogs were more, the active members were not busy !! ,,, Has EC had just those particular active members !? ,,, As a matter of fact always EC, has had, has, and will have the busy active members, so the popularity, must not be affected by that. But the new active members of current EC are less than the old ones ,,, means producing active members by EC, has become less ,,, Why ?? ,,, I do completely agree with your other reasons. But about the second one, I think EC must provide more facilities (related to learning and teaching) which means EC must be updated somehow by the owner. And about your third reason, the causes of getting bored of EC and losing interest, must be found.
Thank you for your compliment, but I don't deserve that (perhaps you are kidding me). Also I'm happy that my blogs and my page are nice from your view (if really so). I hope, I will not give up, although I'm not so active which you mentioned. And at the end, I don't have such feeling (mentioned in your last paragraph), whatsoever !! ,,, I'm actually at the service of all dear EC members. May Allah bless all of us.

maybe those who use EC as learning tool, in English Learning section, they still learning, so you wont see their activity, cuz it is without any trace, etc
but for others, EC turned just like another social network, and difference blurred for them between EC, and for example, FB, even in FB people are more real, cuz here half or more people use fake info, names, indentity, etc (I am one of them:)
why people get bored? - cuz their old friends left this site, or people they knew change names frequently, also increasing amount of trolls, abusers, harrasers, etc
or: they found some amount of good friends, and left with them, to skype, fb, etc, so that they dont need EC anymore
some people come here just to chat, and they dont browse whole site, so that they never write and read blogs. Blog quantity is not criteria to define EC activity, I think.
also regarding blog issues, I saw many people who bombard EC with blogs, and bombard other people here with messages to read the blog, (even I removed one of members from friends list from this). For others most of the topics are boring, sometimes I read, and dont know what to say. Unfortunately "quantity of blogs in ec didnt turn into quality".
for some people EC is like dating site, where they hang out, and make fun with opposite gender, with and without borders, which also can be negative reason why some people already quit.
p.s. be at the service of your own english, thats way better:)
Nice points dear stranger, I do agree with them too. By the way, bombarding EC with good blogs is so nice (but not with the blogs which contains just a "Hello" :D), but I think alternatively sending request to friends (for each blog) for reading our blogs might not be good idea, because the friends who used to read the blogs and comment on them, will do their work themselves and don't need to be reminded. But, but, but... I firstly recommend to myself and then others that although it might not be good act, we shouldn't delete a friend from our list. :D :D :D ,,, May God bless you bro, I'm lucky that it was a secret !! ;-)

I totally agree here with you, Stranger.
I mean, many reasons, which can be:
1. getting busy in life (work, study, trip, marriage, etc etc)
2. alternatives in social communication (facebook, e mails, skype, whatsapp, viber, etc)
3. getting bored, or loosing interest and let me clarify last point in my sentence: I have passed over your page, and found that you are too smart, or educated with wide outlook level, if you got what I mean.
You write about serious and good things, you put logic and your mind in your works, so that sooner or later you will get tired or bored as well, or wont be active as now. It is matter of time, or law of life, noone could stand against it.
( if you had or not, feeling like you are talking in crowd, where people dont get, or dont want to get you) or (feeling like walking about football in basketball sport school:) (if page is so cool, means you will not stay here forever)
