    Your question sound like: There was someone. He/she was doing or creating something important. And till the end he/she was doing everything wrong. He/she was making mistakes. But in the end he/she has invented something great...

    But the main question is "What do we mean by success and failure?"

    In different cases the same result can mean success or failure.
