Dear members of MyEC. Here are some brain teasers to solve. Who of you can do that?

Have fun!

1. There are clocks on a shelf. Two of them are yellow clocks. One of the yellow clocks is the sixth from the left and the other is the eighth from the right. There are different coloured clocks between the two yellow clocks. What is the minimum number of clocks on the shelf?

2. A freighter is in port. A sailor paints the ship. His rope ladder extends up to 10 cm above the water, the rungs are 25 cm apart from each other. The seaman is standing on the lowest rung when the tide comes. The water level rises by 65 cm.

How many rungs does he have to climb higher so that his feet don't get wet?

3. Arriving at the weekend house, the master of the house finds out that there is so little fuel left in the only kerosene lamp that the wick is no longer immersed in it. "We run out of petroleum. There is nothing we can do about it.", He sighs, "We must be sitting here in the dark!" But his wife laughs at him. "Wait a minute, we'll have that in a moment," she says. Two minutes later the lamp is on.

What did she do?

4. There are 16 passengers in a bus. 6 of them get off at a stop and 4 new passengers get on.

How many people are on the bus now?

5. Can a woman who lives in New York be buried west of New Orleans?

6. If someone stands in the middle of a room with the walls, ceiling and floor lined with mirrors, how often can he see himself?

7. A woman is murdered in her car. She has two bullet holes: in the chest and the head. The police find the body in the driver's seat, the coroner says it was dead for about 20 minutes and that both shots came from outside. A suicide was therefore impossible. When they examine the car, they find that there are no bullet holes anywhere in the body, all windows and doors are locked and the glasses are intact. How is that possible?

  • 3) Not sure, how Kerosene lamps work, but I guess she turned the lamp sideways, or upside down

    4) So assuming there is a Bus driver that would be 16-6+4+1 = 15 + any other people on the bus that aren passengers

    5) Why would you bury a live woman?? you gotta murder her for that first. I would say no, dont kill her and bury her

    • 3) wrong

      4) correct

      5) You are a smart guy! Your answer is correct, Vincent

  • 1) Eight Clocks , Rosey.

    2) Zero , The sailor doesnt have to climb any rungs, since the ship will move up along with the tide, Ship sits on the water, remember ? :D

    • 1) wrong answer, Vincent. Try again!

      2) you are absolutely right.

  • My answers are :

    1. The minimum number of clocks is 14. (There is a difference between clock and watch, I have counted them as clocks only :-D)

    2. 11 rungs

    3. They are run out of Petroleum, not kerosene (Kerosene is one of the petroleum products, but kerosene and petrol are different :-D)

    4. 15 including driver

5.Nope, since the woman is still alive :-D, we can't bury her anyhwere legally, let alone New Orleans

    • Hi, Shaheen, thanks a lot for participating in this challenge.

The English language allowes to use Kerosene lamp  and Petroleum lamp (American English)  and Petroleum lamp and Paraffin lamp (British English).

Besides that, what is your answer to that question number 3?

Your answers to riddle 4 and riddle 5 are correct, all others are wrong...I am sorry.

I have to apologize for using the different words Clocks and watch...I changed it.

  • Oi there, Iris

Lemme rev up my senile gray matter and try to get the answer to your task.

     1 -  8 clocks

      2 - 2 rungs

3 - she poured my vodka into that kerosine lamp, caramba!

4 - 14 people if it is an autonomous bus without driver, 15 people if there is a driver and 16 people if there is also a ticket seller in person. :-)

5 - if she is a sailor, than yes, she can be buried at sea! ;-)

6 - hmmmm.... logically and mathematically about 18 himselves, but if the mirrors are set not in perfect plane, than there would be a inumerable reflections.....caramba...

7 - she pressed the window shutting button and while the window pane wa travelling upwards, she got shot, first in the place with boobs, then in the brain container, before the window pane reached its topmost position.

Well, I did my best, but would not bet my bottom dollar that I got it right, tho'!

    • Hello Rys.

I am sorry to tell you that you solved the only puzzle 4 correctly.

At Riddle 3, vodka could work, even if that's not the right answer, because not everyone has a bottle of vodka ready immediately.
I would also be sorry if you used your vodka to burn off. (LOL!)

I am going to wait for a few days if someone else wants to try to solve the riddles. After a week or two, I will publish the correct answers.

  • Hey Rose!

    My poor brain :(

I might come back n think about it :D

    • Don't hurry, dear SNR. I can wait.

By the way, it's nice to see you active again.
