  • Saba very well said. Actually. Arabic language is very deep and rich. There is a repeated Ayah in Sura Rehman, "what blessing of Allah you will deny", So far as the blessing are concerned it was okay for me, but when punishment are mentioned, then I got confused about the translation.  I then heard Dr. Zakir Naik, he was translating it "what signs of Allah you will deny" then It got cleared to me.

  • Hello Jeffrey

Qur'an has several translations, I always read Persian translations of Qur'an. This is the correct translation of Surah Nisa, 34 by Fooladvand.

Men are the maintainers of women for that Allah has preferred in bounty one of them over another, and for that they have spent of their wealth. Righteous women are obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah has guarded. Those from whom you fear rebelliousness, admonish them and desert them in the bed and leave them. Then, if they obey you, do not look for any way against them. Allah is High, Great. (34).

About the Translation of Sura 4, Verse 34

The word Zarab has repeated several times in Quran and in most cases has been translated to leaving a place (e.g. 3:156). Here, considering the verse before and after this verse, the translation has been corrected from beating to leaving. This is certainly in uniformity with the spirit of Quran and consistent with the rest of the holly book. For example, refer to these verses for comparison:

    4:19

    4:15

    4:34

  • We are in the process to make a better civilization. Even the European country had their dark ages, we also need to pass through some 'inconvenient' phases. Take this as my excuse, Indonesia got our Independence at 1945, we need more time at least to be as great as others European country.

    Thank you

    Peppo,

thank you for your explanation as for sharia, that one location in Indonesia and not this punishment law. You know, of course to steal something is immoral and in the middle age in my country they also cut hands of the people, who did this. But we got changed here a bit and now we punish them to thake their freedom and let them enjoy their life in the prison. Psychological punishment might be maybe more effective because they have time to think and they realize they are losing years of their life because they are somewhere locked. To cut hands and to "mark them like this" because everybody will see that this person was a thief - even though he might have changed - people will still label them with this and I guess till the end of their life such people won't live normally... just because once they were stupid and made a mistake...

Isn't it too much??? Humanity went for holidays?
Do you think it is ok that woman in Indonesia was whiped (canned) just because she was standing too close to her boyfriend?? www.dailymail.co.uk/news…
  • Luci, if people is going to agree with this, humans are no less than animals. I never read anything in the  Bible about such cruel act and Moises nor Jesus agrees with it. I know there is a verse for disciplinary action but that intends to our children.

Maybe this is another way to prove the clear inequality between a woman and a man in our corrupted society.

With what I read in the Bible, God gave us freedom of choice/free will, though of course, He suggested that choose wisely and choose Him, it is really up to us. Basically and personally, I can't generalize other religion as long as they don't try to force me to join their views, I don't like force conversation, force relationship, force obedience, force to be like them... I want to exercise my free will because I believe that this is one of the greatest gifts of Almighty God. Anyway, I don't want to lording here..hahaha..:D.. but I strongly refute this act of violence. See, if we are in this situation, what will you do? are we gonna let them get a piece of us? haha! nahhhh....they should be warned to face our fury... hahaha...(just to make this light, kidding aside!)

Risty, of course you can disagree dear :-) It is discussion and if people can discuss the things without offending each other - it is really awesome then ;-) I was just thinking who is behind this action - beated woman. Look, there are some rules that were created I guess in 6th century and on the basis of them - this woman was punished in the 21st century. Nice that "traditions" are being hold for so many centuries but on the contrarery, we live in different age, we moved on and honestly such brutality should be in my opinion banned. As for this issue there are two things - religion and humanity and if religion beats humanity I think then people will totally lose their healthy INDEPENDENT thinking and will become brainwashed monkeys, who blindly follow something. There should exist FREEDOM, freedom to choose weather I will be muslim, christian, jew or atheist and nobody would punish me for my this decission. Decission - how I decided to live my life... Ufff.. this is my opinion ;-)

  • Dear Luci,.
I hear it from my teacher, he use hadith an story of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, I believe you wont to hear that very long explanation. He said if we are punished depend on our sin, for example cut hand for thief, our thievery mistake will be forgiven and we will not get the punishment in hell -relate to this thief- only for this mistake, another is not. If you want to know more you may need to learn islamic rules, Qur'an Hadith Ijma and qiyas. If you have time for that off course. And about the punisher who do the bad thing, cut or kill, someone need to do that and he/she not bear any guilty/sin of what he/she did.
  • Luci, may I disagree with this?

" You said here sth interesting - that religion kinda depends on, how people understand it.. "

Religion is not how people understand it; it is how God wants us to understand it. Our own understanding isn’t reliable as we are corruptible humans with filthy minds and hearts. So to say, interpreting God’s way of discipline may not be the same/parallel on His interpretation of it.:)

    Smile from here. :)

  • Thank you for your opinions, guys. You said here sth interesting - that religion kinda depends on, how people understand it.. so in fact this act we see - beated woman - it is the result of people's understanding religion. People have power that is the point and if they are able to refuse humanity in the name of religion and agree with such punishnents, even come and watch it.. then something is wrong. You know, people aren't perfect, they make mistakes but to punish them in 21st century like this? Btw I don't understand, why somebody should punish them - to show them power? Why they can't be just told - ok now you did this or that hope you know it was wrong etc... Eventually, if they are believers they will be punished after death as you believe it...
