Any Native Spanish Speakers here?

I have decided to finish a project I began with my students in Mexico. That project consists of taking the 500 Most Frequent Words used in the English language and finding their equivalent meaning in Spanish. We finished the first 10 Lists (250 words), and they are online now at http://timnew.com/esl . I am adding the other 10 lists today, but initially they will just be English. If you are a native Spanish speaker, I'd love your input! I will mostly be using VOX Spanish and English dictionaries

Vocabulary

This entry is the first of mine. I'd like to use English as the second language. For me, it's very important because my majors are almost written by English. But the problem is: Every time we read a short text, an article, a book etc. there are a lot of new words. Therefore how to remember and learn all those words? Everyone often advises we should learn 5 new words every day. That advice is very good. But maybe it isn't still enough to have a large vocabulary. Besides we still have many things

Phrasal Verbs: This is a challenge to anybody who wants to attempt it.It is an example of how we English speakers love to use phrasal verbs. They are a large part of our everyday informal conversation. Phrasal verbs are combinations of verbs with prepositions (acting as particles or pieces of the phrasal verb) to change the meaning of the original verb. For example,"When do you normally get up?" "Get" normally means "receive." But this phrasal verb usage actually means,"When do you normally aris

A Game that is Mine

Hi Everybody,Sometimes when I feel annoyed, I take an English word and I start deriving the maximum of words out of its letters. Here you are an example: let's take the word "Listen". So, the words I can get from are: list, ten, is, let, enlist, lie, lies, it, in. mmm what else , sin, sent...Try it and tell me what is your opinion. More, it is your turn to provide something to help activate this beloved club. Some of my friends appreciated the game and told me that it is a good way to remember v

Ideas Make A Difference!

In my first entry, i was not happy at the way some parents neglected paying thier childrens school fees. I had a bright idea during the fee drive and i decided to try it out! in our school we send out what we call the "Terms Calender" to all our parents. This was sent rather late this term cos of reorganisation. We decided to create some sort of excitement by adding a programme on the 13th to mark vals day, we however tagged it "Gift exchange day' this created so much buzz that before the week r

Game 1: Have you Ever?

This is a fun game people often play at parties. You can use it to practise the past participle.I'll start by asking a question starting with "Have you ever...?". The first person to comment will answer "yes" or "no" and then ask another "Have you ever" question. The next person will answer that question and write another question. The game can go on and on for days, months, or years...Remember to answer the question from the last comment. Let's avoid taboo subjects and foul language. (I'll delet

Chinese Valentine's Day

Qi Xi (Chinese: 七夕; pinyin: qī xī; literally "The Night of Sevens"), also known as Magpie Festival, falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month on the Chinese calendar; thus its name. It also inspired Tanabata in Japan, Chilseok (칠석) in Korea, and That Tich in Vietnam. It is sometimes called Chinese Valentine's Day in recent years.Young girls traditionally demonstrate their domestic arts, especially melon carving, on this day and make wishes for a good husband. It is also known by the

#04 - Nosferatu

A continuation of my previous blog and the question is the book always better than the film?Film: Nosferatu: Phantom der NachtDirector: Werner HerzogYear of Release: 1979I am a huge fan of European cinema and Werner Herzog is one of my favourite German directors of all time. The film was part of a five-part collaboration with eccentric actor and dramatist Klaus Kinski. This particular version of Nosferatu is based on Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', a classic novel written in 1897. It is set in Wismar,
