CULTURE AND FAMILY SYSTEM

Family systems vary from culture to culture. In America, the family system is based on individuals: parents and children.   Traditional beliefs and customs have less significance among Americans.  On the contrary in other cultures, the family extends well beyond this.  For example, in the Subcontinent of India and Pakistan cultures, many joint families are living together so as  in the Latin American cultures, the family constitutes an extended family consisting of aunts, uncles, grandparents, and children Amongst these family relationships are warm and cordial and the mutual feelings are expressed intensely than in American or European societies. In America, emphasis on the individual is given more than in the larger families in other cultures. In Asian cultures, especially in India and Pakistan it is more important to build social relationships prior to proceeding for other business. The basic thing about relationships in these societies is that it is tried to feel and maintain a cordial relationship with blood-related relatives. It appears that the culture works very well in these societies because so many joint families are living together so far successfully.

  • Yes, that's the difference between different cultures.

  • Sorry, I should have used system instead of culture in my first para*

  • Well! I have never been to such family system, as I'm living a life more of an American or European culture!

But, yes, my parents, have been the part of the system you have mentioned above! Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties and other relatives. They used to live with them, they used to live with a number of family member, a huge family!

They know the taste of such family, but I, myself never experienced such family culture. And, I feel like a family should consist of parents and siblings that's it.

  • Useful information, thanks for sharing

  • Estanis, for some social reasoning it does happen.  Family get together occasionaly.

  • Yes mist, it is happening in our society, only those family are joined still who has a strong head of the family.  Otherwise it is vanishing...........you are right here.

  • It must be wonderful being part of a big family living under the same roof, but for me it's enough staying with my mother in law for some occasional family meetings :D
  • Sorry for the late reply.

In my opinion, Now a days it is very hard to see a Joint family and the joint family concept is vanishing in day by day manner. Lot of people are interested in living separated family and enjoying a lot with it. But this kind of people are missing a lot of fun and elders advice and guidance.
