Writing Challenge #32: Paraphrasing Seth

Paraphrasing Seth's blog "Looking for the right excuse"

Going through the blogs topics I found many interesting blogs. This one has caught my attention. May be because I noticed this weakness in me and many of my people :S.

As I understand, Seth thinks that searching for excuses is the first step of project failure. Basically, blaming someone else makes us feel better and free of load.As he mentioned looking for excuses can even happens proactively (before actually starting the project). For example a person who is about to take a project if he is from "the looking for excuses type" would think this way; "I will take it and if it doesn't work then the reasons would be this and this".  Seth thinks that these kinds of people are naturally failures because they have already planned their excuses and are ready to present them.

Seth suggests an alternative; why not stop looking for excuses? Why don't we join the team of "avoiding excuses"? This way we would need none and success will take place. Why feel anxious from seeing cops when you are in the safe side.

  • @ Tara thanks for your corrections I have learnt  a lot from them.

    I am really over whelmed.

  • @Nidooooooooo habeeboo I am so glad u r back :))))

Thaaaanks dear for the nice words I am flattered I don't think my blog is that good you r see it this way just because u r my friend ;)

I hope that you too fulfill  all your goals regarding learning English and in life in general.

    Love u loaaaads.

  • My dear friend Rabab, you chose a really wonderful blog of Seth. Many of us do make excuses to set ourselves free from responsibility of a failure. A habit of making excuses is no doubt a big hindrance in anybody's success. You wrote it very well and I'm feeling a bit jealous of you because I can't write something that well. It's very convincing indeed and it caught my attention from very first sentence and I enjoyed reading till its last word.

My congratulation on writing such a wonderful blog. Keep up the great work. May Allah bless you and helps you learning English with epic success.

  • Great try! You got the first part right. It sounds great! The second part is a little complicated. I can see that you are trying to create a noun phrase. I think you are trying to write something like this: "Giving the example of a "looking for excuses type," Seth Godin shows that ...." But I was having trouble working out exactly how to rewrite it that way. A simple form is almost always better:

As he mentioned, looking for excuses can even happens proactively (before actually starting the project). Giving For example, a person  from "the looking for excuses type"who is about to take on a project he would think this way: I will take it and if it didn't work then the reasons would be this and this.

  • @ Ali, Thank you very much for your comment. It's not my thoughts I was just paraphrasing Seth's blog but I do agree with him :)

Thanks for the precious quote I will keep it in my mind :).

    Keep well.

  • @ Dear Tara I am really grateful for your continuous support. Having a teacher like you is a  bliss.

We have another thing in common. I am a homebody my self and am usually fear trying new things and places and search excuses not to do it.

I will try to re-correct the sentence:

As he mentioned, looking for excuses can even happens proactively (before actually starting the project). Giving example of a person who is about to take a project if he is from "the looking for excuses type" he would think this way: I will take it and if it didn't work then the reasons would be this and this.

Hope I fixed at least part of it.

    Thanks.

  • @Nafis thanks for reading my blog and thanks a lot your comment.

    I really appreciate it.

  • Hi Rabab,

Wow! You took this difficult challenge. Thank you! I wondered if anyone would be brave enough. I am so impressed by all of the writers this month. The post you picked is excellent. I really loved it too. (My husband always tells me to stop making excuses. He says, "Just go, or just do it!" I'm a bit of a homebody.)

Let's work a bit on this long sentence:

As he mentioned looking for excuses can even happens proactively (before actually starting the project), giving example of a person who is about to take a project if he is from "the looking for excuses type" he would think this way; I will take it and if it didn't work then the reasons would be this and this.

There are a few important things we can learn in Rabab's sentence. Can anyone help turn this into 2 or 3 sentences?

  • Dear Rabab, Great job! Thanks a lot for the blog.
  • @Doc thanks for your comment. Long time no see how are you doing?:)

Yeah its comment when people are pressurized, I guess.
