Chris's page1. How long have you been teaching English?Chris : I have been teaching English for more or less 20 years.2. What is the most challenging thing for you to teach English? The most challenging thing for me to teach English is how to change individual who is unable to communicate in English into the one who is able to write, listen, write, or read English, at least they can share what he/she feels or think in English.3. I remember 15 years ago I had my very first English lesson when I was already in the second grade of junior school, that was the first time for me to learn how to say "Yes" and "Thank you" .With regard to the experience I had, how is it these days??Chris : Internet era is completely different from our era when we first time learn English. Now students can chat, e-mail, newsgroup, telnet, online game, etc. in English. So of course they don't just merely say yes or no, they can communicate in more complicated way.4. Do feel that the availability of provided facility support your job as a teacher sufficiently and if not what would you like to improve or change?Chris : Facilities provided by the government hasn't yet supported my teaching. As you know, to teach English in modern way requires computer lab. We already have computer lab, but the programs are out of date. We need to connect to Internet to have good English Program. For example to connect English Club we must have good connection. Since the users of internet in my school are too many, the connection gets slower. That is the obstacles of my teaching.5. How you see English as part of our sociality in Indonesian in the future.Chris : Globalization era enforces Indonesia society to involve in International community. That's why now our government makes a lot of efforts to educate people such a way that they can participate in global communication. Our future will be bright if Indonesian people are not left behind. We need to be able to compete with people around the world. Indonesia is a crouching Tiger which is ready to show its fang to the world.Alright- thank you very much for taking your time for this intervew.I wish you the best.Cheers

  • Tara, I think we were writing at the same time. Thank you for coming back and giving me the correction.
  • Thank your for taking a look my writing and giving me feedback. I appreciate that.
I see your point about unnecessary words in that sentence, but your sentence is slightly difference to what I would like to express in mine.
  • Hey expector,
Great to see you here helping out! I love your correction. I wasn't sure whether belajar meant "faculty" or "facilities". Let's see if we can simplify it even more:
"Do the facilities at your school provide enough support to teachers, and if not, what would you like to improve or change?"
  • Great job belajar!
As for the sentence correction, I think the sentence you corrected is already understandable. But, to make it even more legible and clearer, we may need to simplify it. I think these words, such as 'availability', 'provided', 'your job as a teacher', are redundant. Here is my correction: Have the facilities here facilitated your teaching efficiently and if not, what's discouraged(frustrated) you most?
Why not ask Tara for a better correction!
    Expector
  • Dear Tara, thank you very much for your comment, and Yes, again I missed some things in my writing.
Here is my correction : Do you feel that the availability of the provided facility supports your job as a teacher sufficiently and if not, what would you like to improve or change?
  • Thanks for another great interview with an English teacher! It's great to see some new names in the writing challenges this month. It makes me sad to learn that the Internet connection is not strong enough in some schools to access all of the helpful learning pages on EnglishClub.com. I hope this improves for Chris and other teachers in the near future! Great writing.

Belajar: Here is another challenge for you. Can you try to reword this question so that it is easier to understand? "Do feel that the availability of provided facility support your job as a teacher sufficiently and if not what would you like to improve or change?" Ask one of the other members to help you if you have trouble getting it right.
