The reason why I am a bit frustrated

The main reason why I am a bit frustrated is because my progress in learning English is slow. Now why my progress is very slow? I think the main reason is because I don't practice what I have learned. It's like I keep on accumulating knowledge but not using it. In our home I don't use English because all of the members of my family speak Tagalog. They can understand English but they do not use it. So I think I will be needing the help of other members.

  • Hello Juan,

You are not alone in that kind of feeling. I did have a goal that at the end of the year I could speak fluently. I'm not saying perfect English but at least not English carabao..but still until now I can't speak confidently in front of others. I've noticed too that in the past several months that I didn't have internet, I stopped to progress. It's very frustrating because I didn't realize even half of my goal..

So now that another year is approaching, I'd like to have a new goal and that is to become confident enough to speak..Confidence and Fluency I think are inseparable.

    Thanks for sharing your feelings,

  • Yes, practice is important. I suggest doing all the exercises in the book you're reading. Sometimes you think you get the picture, but when you do the exercise, you'll find you didn't really understand what you read.
  • Look Juan, frustration have been making you more productive, that's good!

  • Dear, you just don't notice your progress cause you don't use the language, you will see it soon. I bet you are improving. Accumulating is very important and you can practise the language yourself, make recordings... it will help you to notice your mistakes, read aloud ... you know what I always do when I lack chatting with native speakers? ...think in English. :))
