The King and The Prisoner

Hi all, I just can't let myself being absent at the last seconds of this wonderful challenge. You're so amazing, friends. This is the 582nd blog of June Blogathon.

Here is just about a puzzle question. But it was very hard question for me to answer, so I remembered it a lot.

There is a king and a prisoner. The prisoner is no other Hercules. He is sentenced to death. At this time, he is in a jail which has two gates with a guard on each gate. One of the gate is the door toward the forest, let's name it gate A. Another gate is the door toward the ravine, gate B. One of the guard is an honest man who always tells honesty. Another guard is a liar who always tells lie.

Hercules beseeches to the king to spare his life. The wise king has thought it too much and finally declare a decision for Hercules.

"Okay, I'll give you a chance. I will let you ask a question to one of the guard so you can find the way out . If you are successful, you can get out of here. Think of your question well until tomorrow morning"

Hercules is thinking about it carefully at the moment.

The question for you is...

"How will Hercules ask so he can get the way out?"

Note: We don't know which guard is honest man or liar.

It's my pleasure if you do share your answer...I will put my hats off to you who can answer it right, without knowing first about this question. Many thanks. :))

  • Yeah, Mehboob Akhtar. It is actually so natural. But here, we think that there is no bribe because the King himself who asked about that. If we thought it through our logic, the King must have anticipated it, I guess. :D

While, there are two conditions here. One is a big liar, and one is always say the truth. It's the key of this riddle. :)

Thank you a lot for visiting my blog. :)

    • its difficult chan My mind never work fast.usually i think deeply i saw all warder of prison.
    • all Warder tell a  lie for making money all officer contain to get bribe

  • Dear Mohammad,

First, thanks a lot for liking this kind of blog. Second, many thanks for your suggestion. I appreciate it a lot. I'll try to make another next time. ^^

I tell you the truth. I made this blog really in a hurry without reading the original text. I tried to change the character in a story, but I was afraid it would be not interesting anymore. I have not so much idea that time.

I was also not really confident that many members would try to answer this riddle on my blog. So..., I didn't give deadline. :D

You're right. Many members ran away seeing this question. :D :D

But here, I don't understand what you mean about "classify members answered the question fairly to GOOD, BAD, & UGLY". This is kind of right or wrong answer. If you would to explain. :)

Thanks again for appreciating this blog. :)

  • Dear Onee, I had heard and knew the answer of this enigma before. :)

I like this kinds of blog so much, but if consider some points, it will be so better.

1-  I think when you introduce a problem or riddle, it is better that you change the problem text as much as possible in the way that the solution cannot easily be found by searching the internet.

2-  It is better that you determine a deadline for answering and in this time interval (e.g. five days), enable the "comment confirmation" in security setting part that the members couldn't see the others answer. After the deadline you can confirm and show all the comments. Sometimes when I see someone has solved the problem and see the answers, my motivation to think about the problem would be killed .

3-  The problem shouldn't be too hard or too professional that members since see that run away. I mean it should be proper for our EC community (your mentioned riddle was OK, don't worry).

Then, you con classify members answered the question fairly to GOODBAD, & UGLY not before :)

Thanks for sharing this nice blog.

  • wowo   ..onee  i think it all the times  ..dont know how to answer  ha ah   but you told me the answer  that is smart  thinker  ..thank you give me this change to study it  ..hopefully can have more topic

  • Oh, I shouldn't forget about this. My best appreciation for Samual, who carried out the best effort to answer. You're really a good thinker. Thank you very much. :)

  • Thanks to all for joining this topic. Puzzle or riddle could sharpen our brain and it's healthy. I'm glad to see you here and enjoy your days, dear my friends. ^^

  • Dear all,, here is the answer (in my language)

Hercules would say: "Hey, If I asked your friend where the gate to the forest is, what would he answer?"

IF Hercules asked the honest man, he would answer B, because his friend would tell lie. So, Hercules would choose gate A to go out.
IF Hercules asked the liar, he would answer B, because he always tells lie, although he know that his friend would answer gate A. So, Hercules would keep choosing gate A.

Both of them would answer gate B and Hercules would choose gate A. Then, he would be safe.
