Well, the Facebook thing is just an 'anecdote'. Unfortunately, animal trafficking doesn't need any social site for being pretty much 'alive'. Animal trafficking is the 4th most lucrative black market industry after drugs, people and arms smuggling (some years, it has been even the 2nd most lucrative black market right after drugs)
Many iconic animals are heading toward extinction: only 30,000 rhinos are alive today, 5% of the number four decades ago. About 1,000 are killed by poachers annually. Elephants are being killed in even greater numbers: 20,000 for their tusks last year alone. Tigers, currently numbering 3,500 in the wild, are also in imminent danger. Giraffes also started facing extinction two years ago, and a couple of weeks ago died the world's last male white rhino.
It would be very easy to think that a social site helps to raise these numbers. Animal trafficking has been always alive and is hard to stop 'cause there're many interests and it moves lot of money ($23bn (£17.5bn) a year). It's hard to stop 'cause the human being is greedy, irresponsible and capricious.
I am just sad, that some of people are still predators and nothing can change their nature. At least, predators hunt for food but those "people" enjoy killing poor animals just for pleasure and for making money. It is awful that thirst of profit never leaves them.
What a shame!
For making money, people don't care for red lines or even the laws.
They pretend to be better than they are.
Bad behavior or even crime aren't excused or replaced by also doing good things.
It is reprobate, inexcusable and needs punishing.
We humans should stop reducing or even eliminating wildlife, and we also have to stop destroying the nature and our planet. One day, nature will beat back. Too late then! Then, there isn't anything anymore to repair and to save. If we don't stop destroying our beautiful nature with all its creatures, the future generation is going to have an empty planet. What a horror scenario!
