Spam and Spammers even use Chatrooms

Spammers are people who try to get your confidence and then get your money or infect your computer. I blogged on this topic in 2011 if you are interested, http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/spammers-can-get-us-if-we-are-not-careful ;

but they keep coming back and changing their methods. I don't use the chatroom, but I just had a message which popped up on my computer.

Chatroom spammers use the same tricks. They try to get you to contact them by email or go to a certain web site. Such contact with them can only end badly for you. MyEC is a safe place as far as we can make it. We can't protect you if you look for friendship or photos from a spammer. Please have a good safe day online.   :)

  • They do  infest  every where !

    thank you for sharing  this and as you know the  spammer has to be  reported through  the member's  page..so  that  they  will be removed

  •  These are the guidelines which we need from our elders and respected ones. I am grateful to you Mr Bob for such a nice blog.

  • Good work Nida! And, Such a cheesy line he used to try to get some woman to write him. If he is just stupid instead of a spammer, he missed the part about this not being a dating site, so he should be removed anyway. Was it insensitive of me to say stupid, maybe clueless would be nicer?
  • I just found a new spammer while browsing through members' pages! :D

  • Internet users, especially the new ones, need to educate themselves so that they could stay safe online. I, however, wonder many times why many people fall for spammers tricks even though what they write look so "cheesy"? Is it because they are too naive even in their real lives? When something is too good to believe, that means it's not good at all.

    Thank you for such an awesome blog, Sir.

  • That's good Seeker. Some of them go for the new members because when you are new you may not know the normal behavior of the site. Do you know that most of the computer security problems for businesses and governments are because an employee opened a picture or website that they received by email. You can protect against hacking but your people must be trained too or they will give criminals an open door.
  • Thanks for your comments MaYa and Pearl. I'm glad both of you are very careful online. I hate for those bad people to have even one success at hurting people.
  • the only thing we can do to avoid spammers is to ignore them and not to deal with what they want to do. theres lots of different kinds of spammers everywhere so we need to be extra careful and be aware, dont talk to strangers and dont trust people you didnt even know. the best thing to do is to be a responsible online chatter. nice blog sir Bob! god bless! :D

  • I agree Ina.  I just got several spam emails and this thing on MyEC made me think again about all the new members we get here and how they may not have read any warnings yet. In my early days here we had lots of people knocked off line by several viruses. Many actually didn't know about anti-virus programs so I did an educational blog with links to free anti-virus software.

    After we become computer users and use them every day we may forget about how difficult it could be for a newbie. There are so many threats we have learned to avoid over the years and the bad guys continue to look for different ways to trick us. One of the more common seems to be someone with the profile of a girl offering to show some pictures of herself.  Some boys are just curious enough to see if the girl is fully dressed or not and open a photo that lets dangerous malware into the computer.  Or the other tricks are the sympathy or greed angle to get you to help her or to get a lot of money yourself if you only will send her a little money so she can pay some cost to get to the big money. Too good to be true is u said. true, as

  • Well, for them, even if one single individual fall victim to their 'sweet words', it's 'worth' all their effort in trying to con people. Even though the news about people falling victims to this kind of scam nearly everyday, but it's really 'amaze' me how some people still believe all this.

    For persons who are new to this internet world, just be careful. If it's too good to be true, it's probably too good to be true.
