SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

This is something we all know but we should remember everyday. We have to change things: how we consume, how we produce, how we live...   The Earth is 4.6 billion years old. Let's now to scale that to 46 years:

- We have been here for 4 hours.
- Our industrial revolution began 1 minute ago.
- In that time, we have destroyed more than 50% of the world's forest (50%!!!)

THIS ISN'T SUSTAINABLE.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK BEFORE: Healthy pine trees stretch for tens of millions of acres in the northwestern United States and western Canada.

AND NOW: A hillside of dead pine trees killed by mountain pine beetles shows the effects of warming temperatures in the mountain ranges. In the past, freezing temperatures reduced insect populations. The beetles are now able to survive the milder winters leading to devastating infestations.

THE GREAT BARRIER REEF BEFORE: Considered one of the most biologically-diverse regions in the world, Australia's Great Barrier Reef covers an area that's nearly the size of Texas!

AND NOW: Warmer water temperatures trigger widespread coral bleaching, when coral turns white and is much more susceptible to death. Coral is vital to supporting ocean life.

  • Rigth Alice E, I think it's super important every little thing we can do. And if you're working in a school, teaching children how important are resources like water or instill love and respect for nature is already a huge thing. Thanks a lot for your comment :)

Yes Expector Smith, and now it's time to care about the environment more than about the economy, even if we have to change all the system and start from the scratch.

  • Sorry we've failed to protect the environment as the economy has been growing so fast. Such a pity!

  • Looking at it globally it seems like an overwhelming task but if we start in our own backyard we can still make a difference no matter how small.  I like the fact that in my school we are asked to do these little yet meaningful things and take part in giving awareness to this problem even to the small kids because then they do their part and influence their parents.  Thanks for this reminder. :)

  • Yeah Stranger in the night, I wouldn't like to sound here like 'apocalyptic', but it's true that things are getting pretty serious... We're reaching the point of no return.

Right ❤❤❤REEY@Z☯☯☯, but the thing is that it's not about the next generations (our children, grandchildren, etc..) It's already about OUR generation. It's about the present. Scientists already said that things are changing faster than what it was expected. We can feel the change now, every year, every season... if we don't change anything probably we're going to end up living underground like rats in just 20 or 30 years

Thank you AReality, you're right. Just as i've said, it's not already about the future, it's about the present... we've no time, we've to start changing our habits now. I guess everybody around the world (no matter the country) can feel how 'crazy' the weather is becoming. And that's not a 'casual' thing. I just hope we all could understand soon how important it is...

Estanis, I'm not like a 'super ecologist' myself either! But yeah, i hate hot weather and i'm getting worried about how fast the weather is changing... all the heat waves and everything... it's just crazy. We barely have real 'spring' or 'autumn' weather anymore... it's all just hot summer weather, or cold winter weather... And that's far from being normal.
So, I think we all can do small lil things, just like a responsable use of water and electricity in our homes or stop making use of the 'throw-away philosophy' :)

  • The way you present this topic can turn into an ecologist even to me.

O.K. Don't make me wrong [I do recycle(sometimes)] and agree that this is a matter concerning to everyone living in this little blue point of the universe. Hope humans are not the cancer of the earth.
  • IT Shows.. At some point we need to stop destroying mother earth... as some point we need to start natural revolution so that our descendants can proudly live here after next 4 million years...

Good blog... MARY.... People lets be aware...

  • sooner we destroy everything - sooner planet will get rid from people

so, good luck to people, help the planet to get rid from ourselves.
