Hi All....and as you know we have many new members in EC......and it is great!!!! But I think either the rules haven't be paid attention to or they are being misinterpreted. Some of the older member's forget also.

EC is a moderated learning site. That is the bottom line. I deal mostly within the main chat room. I have no control over any other part of EC. As all know I am a native speaker and although I look to Rys when it comes to grammar rules. I will try to research whatever questions you have. It does not mean I do not know how to communicate in my native language. I have had people say to me......I don't want to be corrected. Which makes me question.....then why are you here? I understand when the room is busy it is most difficult to try and correct the misuse of English. I also understand that the main room is a place to try out the words you have learned in regards to this language. Many have made friends here and it is a place to chat with them. But we are all here to learn.......or at least we should be. I learn by being here. We are never too old to learn.
So many conflicts keep cropping up. Politics, Religion, Vanity and Pridefulness, Profanity, Rudeness and Explicit text when speaking about certain subjects. As I have said before......many different cultures congregate here. We must all respect that. What I am used to in my country is not allowed in others. It is not our place to try and broaden the horizons of others about their culture, nor is it beneficial to speak as we will and offend or insult someone.
Politics are brought up to blame another culture only. There is never any good comes of this conversation. No matter what anyone thinks of another countries politics.........that is not our objective here. If the opinion isn't spoken in the positive, then it has no place in chat. Arguments upset all.
Religion is a personal thing. It is not to broadcast over the main chat that your religion is the best or that my religion is the worst. But that is how it ends up when that discussion is broached. I understand some that come here their religion is a big part of their lives. But once again some that come here do not believe in that way......so to keep the chat in a learning mode and not a fighting one. Let's leave it out of chat. But let us remember we must respect those that believe.... as we must respect the choice of the non-believing or of different beliefs. We are not here to fight a war. EC must be a neutral place to learn and mix with others that live a different way from each other. There are many positive and good things about a culture to learn and investigate. Focus on the positive......not the negative.
Romance or sexual innuendo that offers no doubt what is meant. It is not a good thing and it is against the rules of EC. I mean geez if you want to go that route.....there are chat rooms for that on other sites and even pvt here in EC. Do not subject the main chat to those things. It is not up to EC to provide Romance/Sex 101 class. That is not what we are here for. Sometimes the subject isn't a bad one......but how you relay it or talk about it is. Generally is one thing......explicitly another.
There are many beautiful countries. You will find history and amazing things in all. It is one thing to love and share the good things of where you live. It is another to brag or postulate to others that your country is the greatest of them all, even if that is what you think. We are not children for goodness sake. Why make it a contest???
We have had problems with profanity. People calling the intimate parts of their body by silly names. The 4 letter word beginning with F and ending in K......is a terrible thing to say to somebody in polite company. I know it is widely used in slang language......but it has an ugly meaning when used as it is used most times. Placing the name of God before a swear word.....is so offensive to some that come here.
Forms of rudeness include acting inconsiderate, insensitive, deliberately offensive, impolite, a faux pas, obscenity, profanity and violating taboos such as deviancy. Sound familiar??? I am sure it does.
Social topics - Social science, any discipline or branch of science that deals with human behaviour in its social and cultural aspects. The social sciences include cultural (or social) anthropology, sociology, social psychology, political science, and economics.
Social topics being discussed in a general way usually are not offensive. Unfortunately that is not usually how it is presented. It is usually against men, women or cultures as a whole. We blame the many for what the few are guilty of. This is very unfair. That is why it is difficult to not break in to a conversation about such things and ask that the subject be changed.
One of the worst things you can do is argue with a moderator. I have been called unfair.....I have been cursed at.....you name it. I only break in when there is a problem, usually, otherwise I chat like everyone else. I was told yesterday that .....you are only a moderator.......you cannot teach. It is true I am not a teacher per se......but when it comes to my language.......believe me.......I can show you about it. When you are in the main room speaking and one can barely discern what you are speaking of.......then it is a problem. We need to try and correct and get you speaking in a manner where you can be understood well without anyone having to use the excuse that they didn't know how to write it. I used this analogy yesterday that it was like an itch I must scratch when I see such a thing.
We all joke around at times. Don't take it to heart if someone tells you they were kidding. When we joke......don't make it offensive. Do not use it to provoke.
I am going to post the rules of EC for the umpteenth time.....please read and understand. Moderators are here for a purpose and it is not to make you unhappy or miserable. Follow the rules......and all will be well. They are there for a purpose.
