Politeness in Great Britain

1. It is not always polite to say "bless you" to a sneezing person, especially if he or she is old, because it may be considered that you find the person infirm or sick. The English people don`t like to be considered infirm.

2. It is also not polite to give a place to an old person in the public transport in England because of the same reason - old people don`t want to be considered infirm. They try to stay healthy and as young as possible unlike most old people in Russia who even can shout at you if you don`t give a place to him or her.

I just believe that the level of medical healthcare in all cointries will be so high that old people will be able to enjoy their life after retirement. That is why we should learn more about the foreign countries and learn their pecularities to try to accept the best things they have and apply them in our countries!

  • This is totally different in my country .The things that you have mentioned are "obligatory" for you to do them ,if youdon't do them you are "impolite".
  • I have always been taught that you should offer your seat to elders irrespective of whether they are physically fit or not. It's a sort of respect-giving to them.
