Paper is paper

If somebody asked me what do I prefer a book or an ereader I would ansvered imediately paper is paper, a few months ego.

Many people around me are still at the same meaning what I said. For example not only my wife  but also my son has been very good reader. They have read so many books since they learned to read. Many my friends who are in the same age or older as me are still interesting in paper and also have been reading many books. What about me? I read some books what I could count on my fingers of my hand.

We have many kinds of books and their weight is different. Someones are  thick and someones are thin and I don’t want to tell about its height. I remember when our school gave us too many books for studying and we had to carry it to the school every day on our bag. We can say the new books smell very nice but could we say it about the older books? As I know they smell as bad as it gets and what about their dirty pages. If I borrowed a book in a library I was very suprised what I found on the pages. Maybe some readers could read only if they have a breakfest. Letters are only big for kids I mean at fairy tale and then books have only small letters. I remember to my grandmother. If somebody of our family bought to her a book she said very sadly “thank you very much but the letters are too small for my eyes”. How many books are writen with biger letters then as usully for elderly people?

But everything has changed. I have bought an ereader.

I am very happy because not only light but also thin it is. I can put it to my pocket.  I can change the size letters for elderly people. Many, many and so many books I have in the ereader. Not only PDF but also microsoft word I have there from my work what I have to study because of my boss. He wants to have a smart subordinates. Now I can read and study every where on holliday, at work, at home, on train ect.  and every time when I can or I am free. So I can choose which kind of book I need to read that time.

I have found only one disadvantage I can not quickly flip the pages. It means if you want to study law there is very difficult to quickly look up some paragraphs. There I can say paper is paper.

I have been reading many books since I bought the ereader.

  • Thank you all, not only for your respons but also for your patience with my lower English level. I have appreciated every your comment. Neverthelles I would like to tell you that there is different between ereader (ebook) and PC, laptop (ipod). The ereaders don't irritate your eyes. It bit same as a paper for your eyes. :)

  • I got used to reading books in my mobile phone but due to size it's not good for eyes. I have heard about Ereader; it seems such an amazing device. It seems like a small library that we can carry every where. Thanks for sharing your interesting post.
  • i read the free book in the internet...and sometimes i downloaded it...it's much cheaper...hahahah

but if i read book on computer then my eyes will get irritated...so i like reading paper book better than ebook...

  • I've bought the third Kindle so far and never regret . My book shelve is too small hence I have to keep almost all of my books in many carton boxes and put them in the attic ...that's so bad because they are getting ruined after some times. Love books, love Kindles. The only disadvantage for me is I have a habit to read again and again those paragraphs I like the most or some important details and it's very difficult to do it with this kind of e reader. And in dark you have to have  light on to read... Thanks for the blog.

  • I do not read books on computer.  I can not read, my head gets spin.  But it is also a fact that paper (good quality) books are also getting too expensive to reach.

    Good reminder.

  • Yak she machj Vlad? My daughter, Fatima  gave me a hell of a gig to buy her that kind of set. She preferred it to books. I paid about 500 us. for it. By the way, she is very quick with it. Thanks Vlad for sharing.

  • For me printed book still the best way to read, even I read E book also but I didn't find the same satisfaction in reading. But when paper is more and more difficult and expensive what should we do, we can adjust ourself to any condition to keep continue reading.
Nice blog vlad, thanks for sharing
  • Hello vlad!I love to read a book since my childhood. I feel comfortable to read real books/paper books but like to read both formats, I have a vast collection of books of my favorite authors in my bookshelf, it helps me to take the smell of new and old books. Real books are easy to handle while at home but eBooks are easy to handle at everyplace, I can read when traveling or at office, I can make my boss fool while reading thru laptop....:)

Sometime busyness make me compel to reading from a laptop, besides this I end up taking the print outs of pages and bind it for the removal or adding of new pages..

Both of formats have their own demands, each has it’s' merit and demerit …:). Thank you so much for posing such a great blog.

  • It's the same for me. I always love reading. I used to read 3-4 books in a month, but nowadays I will be happy if I can finish a book in a month. I also have the same view as - paper is paper. There's describable feelings when I smell a new book. But to smell the old books, the mustiness of old papers can evoke great feelings and will make me reminisce.

Though I have downloaded several ebooks, for the me, the feeling is not the same. I will only read those ebooks when I have to travel and bringing along too many bulky books are out of the equation.

  • Just as Risty replied, it's fascinating when the book you're reading fell off on your face when you're lying on the bed, however it's not the same feeling when it happens with the iPad I use :D
