Open Your Mouth and Speaking

For our english learner, english is the second language for us,is not easy to open our mouth and speak to a foreigner, especially to a native english user.In this case, does the learning has any significance? We can use our morther language easily, why not  english. There are several factors,I think, caused this abnormal phenomenon.

Shyness may be the main reason ,our face turn red at frist in front of a foreigner before our mouth opening.we have learned for many years, why we still shy to speak out ,because we didn't have any confidence to use it correctly,we fear the audience will laught at our simple mistakes which were appeared in our scetances.

Secondly, some of us did limited by vocabulary,of course include me ,we can't express our feeling exactly in english by so little words we have mastered. It is also a difficult work for us to remeber so large number of words .Because of this ,we can't speak in fluently and quickly ,however, slow is better than shut up.

I try my best to speak english out since I realized the above reasons.I hope you can,no matter how many mistakes in your scetances. The mistake is the best teacher who can give us the method to get progress.

Hope you can leave your comment after reading, pointing out my mistakes is best. Thanks!

( it mention that what r u talking about) is not easy to open our mouth and speak to a (as like or as a to is for indicate dierectly like to take if we compare we use like or as like)foreigner especially to a native english user (speaker user is an other thing) when we use does the has change inot have like does he have pen or does Dona have laptop. we can use language (we can speak our mother language easily ) our faces not our face , which appeared or we said ..and some of us have limited vocublary,,

  • Me too, I don't have a confidence to speak English in conversation much more in front of many people. It's very frustrating when you know all those words when you are writing but when you are about to speak, it's always just on the tip your tongue. YOu know you have a lot to say but you don't know how to express clearly without pausing when it's your turn to talk.

Two weeks ago, I read about a short e-book about how to learn to speak. The author pointed out the reasons why most of the learners even of a long studies of English are not able to speak the language, that even they have a good writing skills they don't have a confidence to speak it....

Listening and repeating what I've listened is now my new method. As many time as possible everyday I listen to podcasts which interest me. What I do I listen to it first at 3 to 4 times till I understand all of it. Then after days of listening to it I try to emulate the way the speaker say the words. At first it's difficult because native speaker, for me,  speaks very fast but after I listen to it many times I gradually cope up with it.....I stay listening and keep repeating it in a loud voice the same podcast for a week for several times a day. And I'm surprise. I learn that most of my pronunciation (that I think correct) are not. And most of the sounds from the podcaster are really new to me because most of the time the spoken  English that I hear here in my country is in fact sounds very different. That's why when I try to speak to others in call conference like skype they hardly understand me because I speak the wrong sound. But of course because I admit I just mumble most of the time because of lack of vocabulary (you don't know why they are hiding at the back of your mind when you need them the most) and a low confidence, all mix up together.

Well, I think this is enough. My comment is already too long jejeje. Just forgive me for that. I just want to say that I share your feelings too. And yup, we have to overcome our shyness to speak English. The first step is.......to do it. The best way to learn to speak is to speak they say.

And before I end my eye tiring comment...this is the link that I mentioned above. Ahm you can download it. It's free. Learning Spoken English. It's in the end part of the page.

  • Truly, i loved your words it made me trused in my self when i speake, i see we should do it without shyness

  • Thanks Tara Benwell ,I have confused about that before writing, but now I think "speak "is correct, maybe two verbs should be writen parallel.am I right .thank you very much ,there are must be much more I can learn from you.would you mind being my teacher?I really want to study English follow you .

  • Excellent post and great writing! Thanks for giving teachers and native speakers a look inside your heart and soul.

Note: English is a proper noun and needs a capital E at all times, even in an informal blog post.

Also, check your title. Can you see that you have used two verbs that have different forms when they should be the same? The verb "open" is correct. Which form should "speaking" be?

  • I agree with you.

Some people may ask why we should bother to speak. My answer: You should as long as you really want to learn English. You bet speaking can be frustrating.

  • Donny and Learner ,thanks for your advice.I learn new vocabulary almost each night ,and then use them in the communication with my friends, after two or three times, the new become mine.Although only a few words can be mastered, keep learning .
  • Hi dustin, I just wanna share about enriching our vocabulary. Don't ever memorize every single words, but if you find a new word, just make it into a sentence. I think it will be much easier to memorize word in the sentence than memorize single word. Do not be shy, speak up. Everybody must be got mistake, even native.
  • Thanks all my friends ,Thank you very much for your comments.I have realized that I made some spelling mistakes.Your comments  are my best encouragement, give me the confidence to continue.I'll keep it up  and hope to get greater progress with you together .Thanks again!
