My thoughts about this globalized world

An expression has been catching my interest while I was reading and commenting on Tam's post "What decides which country you belong to?".

GLOBALIZED WORLD

We all often use this expression. "What does mean the globalized world in my understanding?", thought I.

Let me tell my humble and simple opinion, please.

I agree with everyone who says it should not matter where we come from if there exists a globalized world.

But please, look at this world! Is that a real globalized world?
Maybe in that sense that everything we do can influence the whole world and our globe, negative and positive.

At the moment, the world seems more separate than globalized.
States look after their own interests and benefits. They try to favorite those national interests instead of having a view of the big picture of the whole world. Selfishness rules the world.

Do you need some examples?
Here you are:

The Brexit of the United Kingdom.
The independence aspirations of Catalonia in Spain.
The trade war between the US and the rest of the world.
Contracts have been broken and dissolved more quickly than they needed to create, agree and sign them.
Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, The United States, and the UK do not want to take refugees and immigrants, just for example.
At the European Union's borders, border controls take place, which was already abolished by the Schengen agreement.
In Italy, boats and ships with refugees are no longer allowed to land on the coast.
It does not matter if people die. Even Germany, which has received the most refugees in Europe became a country where right-wing populists rise their voices.
It seems we are more close to falling apart than being united.
The US and Britain are always the first to be involved in wars. But when it comes to taking responsibility for refugees, they do not want to do it. Then they ask other countries to build up the devastated countries and to care for the refugees.
The countries start building walls around their borders.
Nationalism is taking space, and the right-wing populist ideology has become socially acceptable again.
People vote in the elections for right-wing parties.
Look at Europe and South America. Right wings are on the rise. It is disgusting.

Enough? Oh, I enumerated just a few examples. There are much more.

Our existence is more interconnected than many people want to believe and accept.
The world is like a spider web. It is stable as long as nobody destroys a part.
Unfortunately, forces want to destroy it.

I am not a politician and not a scientist. I have just my personal view and opinion of a globalized world.

I'm quite sure that people are not ready yet for a real globalized world.
National interests play a too important role.
So we miss our chance of a better world again and again.

The less we help the poor regions to build a stable peace and economy in their countries the more people will leave their countries and go the long march to find a better life. The number of refugees and immigrants will increase.

  • Hi Olga.

    Thanks for your comment.

Many opinions have been shared. Everyone has an own view of this topic. I am glad you like mine.

  • Dear Mishaikh.

Thank you for reading and commenting on this topic.

  • Thanks again, Nimzo.

You are right. We have reached a lot, already. But it does not mean it is enough.

  • Rose you have elaborated the factual position very comprehensively and no doubt it is true to its core.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Hello Rose,

thanks a lot for your reply. You wrote:

There is no doubt about it you and I are living in a privileged world.
You are right, it is not the same for everyone, but is it essential? I
don't think so. As long as the number of people is rising that can
participate and their lives getting better we have already reached a
    lot.

    > The economic differences of the countries are still enormous.

Actually, I'm not sure about that. The rise of Asia the last two till
three decades was tremendous. Especially China is one of the biggest
markets of the world. The gap is getting closer and closer. An evidence
is the increased expectation of live.

Yes indeed there are still a lot of duties to do and many problems to
    solve.

They are still fighting against an inevitable development. USA is
already feeling the breath of the emerging countries i.e. China.
Protectionism will not be the solution. We are living in uncertain times
    but it was always so.

  • Hello, Nimzo.

First of all, thanks a lot for your comment on my post.

Secondly, I agree with your positive statement on this topic.

Of course, the globalization offers us many opportunities we had never thought of before many years.
I think people around the globe appreciate the benefits.
I'm not one of the influenced people by bad News.
I have been to many different countries all over the world. I am not a tourist who is just interested in a beach holiday. I visit the countries for learning more about them. I am interested in their history, culture, nature, and how the people live. So I tour around the countries.
I always made the same experiences as you.
People there were friendly, interested, hospitable, and curious. I am open-minded and never have problems to talk with them.

You have written: The technological progress (i.e. internet, traveling) has enabled us to get in touch with people and cultures all over the world.

That's correct. But is it the same for everyone? I don't think so. People like you and I are privileged. We can do what for others is impossible.

The economic differences of the countries are still enormous. And so the rich countries still determine the rules and are the lucky one of globalizing.

I am not an opponent of globalization, but I want a sincere, real, and fair globalization. It has to be a partnership.

  • Hello Rose,

It was an enjoyment to read your article about globalisation. I am still
    impressed by the elaboration.

Nevertheless, I have a different view on globalisation. I think the
appreciation or openness for other people has increased over the last
two decades. The technological progress (i.e. internet, traveling) has
enabled us to get it touch with people and cultures all over the world.
As for me I have been in Morocco and south America for hiking. The
inhabitants or locals were always friendly and curious. A further
example are the scientists. They work together across boarders and
geopolitics to solve the future problems i.e. global warming and hunger
    for energy of the humankind.
Well, why do many persons have the feeling that the world is falling
apart?  An explanation could be the mass media, because bad news can be
much better sold than good ones. If the consumers are daily bombarded
with bad news they believe in it finally. This so-called priming is a
clever strategy to influence people. Largely, I think the mankind is on
the right track and the social advancement takes place in waves.

So far my thoughts and best wishes.

  • Hello, Tam.

    Hello, Svitlana.

You both are right. Thanks a lot for your opinion.

Yes, globalizing shouldn't be homogenization or Americanization.
If we understood it in such a way, globalizing were a kind of submission and uniformity.
The differences make what we are.
    Humans!
Humans who live in different countries.
In countries of different history, societies, traditions, habits, and life attitudes.
We should appreciate, protect and live those differences.
    Uniformity is boring and unproductive.
    Diversity is important.
Globalizing shouldn't be a tool to make companies and profiteers richer. It can not be a cover of modernized colonialism.

  • Dear Rose!
Everything above-mentioned by you has a simple reason. MONEY.
Money talks in this mad world. You said; " the world seems more separate than globalized." It is true. People who have money want to have more. They want to dominate others and try to separete countries. Maybe this is our nature. In fact, natural selection continues to operate in modern cultures. And no one society can't get rid of that. I hope in the future people will learn how to control this instinct and next generation will be much better than we are now.

  • Hello, Rose. I agree with you. The real globalized world in recent years is for global companies, not for people. Information became globalized due to internet, though it doesn't in some countries.

I think the globalized world should not mean homogenization or Americanization, but global sharing good knowledge and morals, and approval for regional characteristic.
