Jeju island!

Hello! I live in Jeju island. Jeju culture looks very simple compared to the Korean peninsula and many other nations. I think this may be due to the ancestors of today’s inhabitants learning to live in harmony with nature like many other past generations of other lands. Jeju is the largest island in Korea and is located in the southwest sea off the Korean peninsula. Jeju was made of volcanic activity. So we can see basalt commonly. In the center of this island, there is Halla mountain which is an extinct volcano, 1950m high and there are about 360 smaller cones named "Orum" that were made of volcanic activity around the island. Many Korean people visit Jeju Orum to see the view. About 1,000 ago, Jejudo was sometimes called Sam-Dado which means three kinds of large things were found in this island. The three things are wind, women and rocks. So Sam means 3, Da means many and Do means an Island but the sound of do is different from English word do. Now let me introduce the Songup folk village in Jeju island. The Songup folk village is famous for reproducing the old daily life of Jeju. Now, Songup folk village is designated as the No.188 of the important Folk Exhibition. Jeju people had cleared the land covered with so many stones for the farms. They used the stones to make ports and build houses and walls instead of throwing away the stones. Every year, some typhoons passed by or struck the Korean peninsula. So my ancestors lived in low houses to reduce damage from the typhoons. Too much wind meant tough lives for Jeju people. Do you see Jeju traditional houses? Look at the roofs! They were low and covered with straw ropes to reduce typhoon damage because Jejudo was located in an area of many typhoons. The Living Environment of Jejudo was so hard that women had to work with men. Most of all, lots of men died during fishing in the sea. So Jeju island had a preponderance of women members. But now Samdado past tragedies are only an old story. But there are still too many stones and too much wind in the island of Jejudo. Now a typhoon is coming to Jeju, I hope it passes Jeju and Korea peninsula without any damages.
