I don't know how to call this poem.

Be the good that people want to see in you

Do the right that people want you to do

Say the things that people want to hear

And then they love and they worship you…

Never show when your heart is aching

And the feelings must die unseen

You are fake… and you’ve always been

Only what people wanted you to be!

You say it’s painful? So what… forget it!

You must feel only what’s right to feel.

Be the shapeless so they can shape you

Be the voice that they can speak.

Be not yourself, for that’s what painful

To feel and love and hate and think…

Give up the dreams you dared to dream

For life will show her plans on you

                        Fight back? Yeh maybe!

                                                 So great it seemed

When future yet was just so dim.

But then you are what people want you

And then you think just like they want

And then… Nothing … You are blunt

                         Just shapeless, voiceless, heartless plant.

  • Dear Helen, very nice writing! you are right we would lose our dreams if we let others shape us just the way they want, moreover they won't love us and we won't love ourselves either.

  • So sweet poem by Helen.Beautiful and lovely.I really enjoyed by reading,Good job, keep it up.
  • Mohammad, thanks for reading! what I think is that its hard to beourselves sometimes.

  • Nice poem dear Helen, at the first four lines, I thought that you really meant that we must be the one, who people want, but after reading the rest, I got that the first ones were sardonic. Yes that's right, we must really be ourselves. Thanks for sharing

  • Dear Helen,
You have done a great work, A very sweet poem. I agree with Misaikh, sir, there is a deep pain on your poem. If you mind, I would like to call it 'A Pretender's Complains'.
    Have a wonderful day :)
  • This I call a "CAMOFLAGUE"

    I just want to add:

And if you do not want as they want you to be

Be quiet and never open your heart.

I am feeling an ACHE in the HEART of this POEM.
